I bought this gun for $499 in 2010 when it was Gun and Ammo gun of the year, It's now in a home defence and range role with a nice set of Trijicon tritium night sights and a flashlight. My son will get it when I'm gone. I love this gun!

I was deciding between a S&W SV9VE and a Ruger Security... then I saw this video. Oh boy, I am glad you made this video. I went to the gunshow today and traded my Kahr with a Ruger SR9C. I love the trigger. Thanks for all your reviews on different guns. It is just a little bigger than my Springfield XDS, and with the added capacity of the SR9C 17+1 . I love it .

Good choice. I have plenty of M&Ps and love S&W but the SV models are one the most poorly made S&W and hand guns that exist. FYI XDs are notorious for the grip safety failure and even having live rounds stuck in the chamber... you may already be aware but be careful. 👍

My fave carry gun by far. Shoots awesome. Sold my Glock 19 to buy one for my wife too. Its very slightly wider than my shield 9mm. My SR9c has been very very reliable. Have the full size also. Shoot it in competition and its rock solid as well.
@davemaximillion5501
@davemaximillion5501 6 лет назад
Sweet, I Carry a G19. My wife loves 19 so I decided that it would be a good idea for me to have the same gun so that if she ever needed to pick mine up and use it she wouldn't have to even think about it. I've been wanting to try out a shield. What's your overall opinion of yours?
@travispowell2471
@travispowell2471 6 лет назад
@@davemaximillion5501 oddly enough I shot both today. Strongly prefer SR9c over my shield. Kinda thinking about getting rid of. Can drill a hole with sr9c, I just can't shoot my shield nearly as well. Also took calipers to them. Sr9c is only 1/8 th inch wider but handles way better.
@davemaximillion5501
@davemaximillion5501 6 лет назад
Have you shot the Ruger more than the shield? I know the grip on the SR9 feels very natural, and points great. I've never handled a shield to be able to compare.
@travispowell2471
@travispowell2471 6 лет назад
@@davemaximillion5501 Yes I have far more time behind Ruger. But thats kind of my point. The size diff is very minimal. But the shield is just small enough and light enough that its way easier to push it left. I dont really see any advanage to carrying the shield. I just cant perform as well with it, it has less capacity, smaller sights ECT. You should try and rent one and shoot them side by side. I'm sure with lots of training it will get better but all my other pistols are double stack so why train for profiency with an inferior platform. But this just my opinion. You may love it.
@travispowell2471
@travispowell2471 6 лет назад
I also forgot to mention the Ruger is 5oz heavier. Which is not a huge amount when in a good holster. But that weight and the fact you can get a better grip there is MUCH less recoil compared to shooting a shield.

Have the Ruger SR45 and it's been nothing but a lemon and even sending it back to Ruger twice didn't fix it. After installing aftermarket springs and recoil guide rod, filing and polishing, was able to fix the issues. Regardless of caliber there are issues with a lot of SR pistols, if you see a mint use one beware. It's best to remove the magazine safety, been known to cause issues in some of the Ruger SR pistols.

FYI: the sr9 action is the same as a Glock. Glocks patent ran out and Ruger modified it to what is now the SR9 action. Ie true single double action where the striker is only half cocked until the trigger begins rearward travel. Drop safe. You can also ignore the manual safety as the trigger safety does it's job along with being drop safe. If you like Glock but have smaller hands, this is a great option.

I got mine for 450.00 dollars. I asked for the best 9mm for a good price and I was handed the sr9c. I live in MA so we have to pay more for guns than a lot of other states. We have strict gun laws but not too bad. It's getting worse though. Just 2 years ago we could buy an ar 15 or AK. Now they are public enemy number 1. A lot of legal gun supporters in our state so hopefully we hold on to our constitutional rights.

Watch out Dave those shell casing will chip your paint on that Chevy Blazer lol. Actually that happened to a friend of mine and me shooting his Ruger Mini 14 one day. We was to close to the side bed of his new Chevy truck doing some rapid fire and those shell casing were beating the hell out of his paint. Ruger is a very good firearm manufacture, I have several Ruger firearms myself and have been very satisfied with the performance of them.

Had my SR9c a little over two years Dave and I really like it. As you may have learned the hard way (or maybe you forgot) the magazine has two clicks. No need to mash it, just press and wait for that second click. Enjoyed your video. A bit jealous about the great outdoors where you can ride out and shoot any time you want. About 25 years ago the railroad extended passenger service to the town where I live. Builders starting buying land and building around the clock and so many city people moved in that these days if you fire a gun a mile away (or even have a small fire in your backyard) there's a dozen calls to the police. And like the cops told me, if they get a call they are required to respond. Oh well, "that's the breaks of Naval Air." As the singers back then were singing, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got . . . till it's gone; pave paradise, put up a parking lot." ( : { )
@davemaximillion5501
@davemaximillion5501 6 лет назад
Lol I did figure that out after the fact. It is a great hand gun. I've had no issues with it. Sorry to hear that it's pretty hard for you to go shooting. That would be depressing. Do you have to go to a gun range then?
@SailorSam41
@SailorSam41 6 лет назад
Yeah I sure do. It's a good range but the first year it's $270 (ouch), after which we can relax because the annual renewal is only $200. Heck I remember when you could get a good used car for that much, even in central California, and it would run for years.
@davemaximillion5501
@davemaximillion5501 6 лет назад
We have a public range here but I'm not sure what the membership fee is. I just go out to the Badlands and do my shooting there. Much more private. How many rounds would you say you have shot through your SR9?
@SailorSam41
@SailorSam41 6 лет назад
520 rounds total, all at the range. Living in MA now, range is half an hour's ride from my door and I'm not always able to motorcycle in the months when we have snow and ice on the roads. Plus I've had some mysterious illness that's kept me indoors for the better part of the last eight months. I'm 75 and when Illness hits it's not always easy to shake it off. I got hundreds of rounds of ammo here though, and I'm itching to get back to that range and get my money's worth.
@SailorSam41
@SailorSam41 6 лет назад
Wanted to add how the last few times I've been to the range I've not used the sights. I just shoot from the hip (allowed at this range) or point at arms length and fire away. After a few practice sessions it's surprising how accurate I've become. Aiming is terrible slow Dave, trying to locate that front sight can be difficult, especially if the bad guy is moving and you have to stay on target while realigning both sights. If you haven't tried this yourself, you might give it a shot.

Sometimes the gun will be more reliable with the factory plastic guide rod. I put a stainless steel guide in my SD9VE and it started jamming. It never jammed with a plastic one. Another thing is I've seen a few posts where people changed out their plastic guide rod for stainless steel and the stainless steel guide rod is harder than the slide,and it started damaging the slide,nicked it up or scratched it. After using a stainless steel guide rod,I wouldn't waste the money on one. It made my gun less reliable,I went back to plastic.

I am looking for a lever 2 holster for my sr9c with a thumb release. I've looked everywhere. Any ideas guys???
@davemaximillion5501
@davemaximillion5501 6 лет назад
I found a holster on Amazon. Its by tactical scorpion gear, modular level 2. It's a retention paddle holster though. Not a thumb release. Also found a holster on cheaper than dirt. It's called the DeSantis cozy partner. It's an in the waist band holster. Also we the people holsters makes nice kydex holsters. I hope this helps.

Ok I may have found the one. Go to eBay and punch in, Tagua black leather mini thumb break OWB belt holster. Listed for $37.95, also go to midwayusa.com and punch in El Passo saddlery strong side select holster. Product # 742104. The last one I found is on the same website. It's the DeSantis thumb break scabbard belt holster, product # 766606. I don't personally have any experience with any of these but they are made of leather and look to be good quality.

I'm a big fan of Ruger and have the SR45, Security 9 and EC9s subcompact. All are good, reliable firearms but the SR9c fits perfectly into my EDC rotation.

Rich Weatherly I thought about checking out the security 9. Ended up going with the SR9C. Which one do you like/think is better?
@Me2Lancer
@Me2Lancer 6 лет назад
The SR9c is somewhat more compact and yet has the 17 round magazine whereas the Security 9 has 2, 15 round magazines. The SR9c has a long record of reliability and excellent accuracy. It's a higher end pistol but the Security 9 is no slouch either.

Man thats a big waste of alcohol. No need to bathe it in that brutha. Way too much oil. NEVER....I MEAN NEVER put oil in your striker channel. It stays dry as a bone. The oil will attract all kinds of garbage. Lots of no no's here
