I reviewed this gun in my second ever TTG video, but I've gotten better at making videos and generally learned stuff. Daughter-in-law fell in love with this gun so it's been spending quality time over there, but since it came back I thought I'd revisit it.

I still applaud myself for making this my first pistol 10 years ago. Without knowledge on guns, very limited availability and guns being crazy expensive where I live, this gun serves me good. Now that I know alot more about pistols I can truly see it was and still is the best choice for home defense bar none. I've shot hundreds of rounds at the range with it and it has been 100% flawless and accurate. So very ergonomic. One of my best buys ever.

agreed, it was my first 9mm. I loved the ergos, 17 round mag, and thin. Its funny the Sig Fuse just came out and it reminds me of my SR9. Ruger's biggest mistake was to switch over to the American and Security. They should have just Gen 2'd the SR 9.

I bought a used Ruger SR40 and in my humble opinion is that the Ruger SR series are way UNDERRATED!

I have had .y ruger sr9 since October of 2007. It is my edc to this day 2023. I have replaced the extracor, spring, sights, firing pin and have had zero issues. Use it for self defense and idpa. 10 out of ten. Hunting gun, plinking gun. I will probably need a barrel soon. To day is December 2023. Just a shame ruger did not improve on it

My wife has a SR9C as her double stack. It's a reliable, accurate, & solid pistol. I find it interesting that so many people expected Ruger to reinvent the wheel.

The 9E was my first gun and has always been completely reliable. A decade later I realize the trigger could use some work but it's still reliable!

Had the compact version bet my life on it every day without a second thought about doing so. The compact 9mm will take the 15 round security 9 magazines and run them flawless

I just shot mine this weekend and it’s a smooth shooter. Extremely controllable. I have been shooting mostly sub compact lately so the full size was refreshing

First-time time viewer, I will check out some more of your videos.👍, I picked up a used SR9c of the same color scheme as your SR9. I bought this pistol only because I purchased the Ruger PC Carbine, and it uses the same magazines, so they were complimentary, and the price was right.🤷‍♂️ I have never carried the gun, but it surprised me at the range when it shot so well. So I did purchase a holster and such, in case the occasion should ever arise. I did replace the polymer guide rod with a stainless aftermarket. Still need to lose the magazine disconnect, but I have plenty of carry pistols, no hurry.

"the obligatory trigger dingus" -- my recollection is, the very first released SR9s didn't have that. That was changed after a safety recall. Pushing down the ejector to allow the slide to be removed is exactly how the earlier Ruger P series guns worked.

Ruger is the Hyundai (or Kia from time to time) of the U.S. gunmakers. It gets you from point "A" to point "B", but nobody is ever going to be excited to show it off in public.

I've had a couple of these. Both ended up as trade fodder for something else. Good guns.

SO has one that's seen perhaps a few hundred rounds. Ejector may or may not be wonky although it's not been sent to Ruger for assessment. I do wonder if these will end up being like the alloy frame Ruger P series - loved by some despite their lack of market prominence.

I have to just say it. I have been a fan of Ruger firearms for years. It's kind of rooting for the underdog. I like the original M77 rifle with the tang safety, the 22Auto, the 22 SIngle action revolver, their discontinued O/U, the Security 6, etc. Oh, don't let me forget the Mini 14 which is the best of the lot especially the latest generation. BUT BUT BUT Ruger makes also rans. They never made the best in class especially when it came to semi auto pistols. Yes, they are dependable and reasonably accurate but they never really try to put out THE BEST on the market and I'm sure they are capable of doing it but they just don't. I picked this gun up. The trigger was serviceable but not good. The ergonomics were okay on par with a P320 but the ergos on that gun are the same as a Ryobi cordless drill. Accuracy is serviceable and the controls were cheap stamped metal with sharp edges that weren't good. Compare the SR9 to any reasonably top tier pistols even including an M&P and they just don't stack up. Yes they are cheaper but so is a Canik which is vastly superior. Just once I wish Ruger engineers would get their heads out of their asses and produce an American made pistol that a Police Department might actually consider carrying as a duty weapon. Until then they will always be an also run.

The compact should holt 12 rounds, and the disassembly pin should be captive. Other than that, pretty ok.

It seems like a fairly nice pistol, the adjustable sights being standard is quite the nice feature, especially after paying for some nice novak sights on my glock. I will say its disassembly is a bit weird but hey if looks were everything Its not the most unattractive looking gun so it has that on the glocks too.

That's my evaluation. Not great, but fine. Functional. In fact, they're nicely narrow for IWB carry.

It also has the best OEM trigger for any of the Glock / Glock knock off class of pistol. The one I had had damn near a glass rod snapping for a trigger

Never liked Ruger semi’s, except for their 22’s and their LCP of which the design was “borrowed” from Kel-Tec. They seem to build guns that are super newbie safe, safe for Ruger to make/sell and safe for first timers or non “shooters” etc.

my SR9 is FINE and if not I can send off to Ruger. I can hit a target with this unlike with the monkey grip Glock gives you. Glock boys have to learn an unnatural way to aim. It works for some but I like the 1911 style of my full size SR9. I did upgrade the guide rod to stainless steel & I have removed the mag disconnect.

"It has features that are unlike a Glock, like ergonomics." Hilarious. I'm fairly new to the pistol-owning world. My first pistol, bought with an eye toward learning to actually shoot pistols, was a CZ P10F. Since buying that pistol, I've seen videos calling it a "Glock killer," which seems a silly moniker. I'm reminded of the Ford vs. Chevy banter of the 1960s and 1970s. I mean, I've read that Block, er, GLOCK pistols are super-reliable, but the darned things are brutally ugly. Many people install aftermarket triggers right away, suggesting that the factory trigger is "less than." Being new-ish to owning guns, I've been reluctant to carry a striker-fired pistol with a round in the chamber. A thumb safety does nothing to encourage me--it's one more possible point of failure should I actually need to use the thing. I'm more emotionally comfortable with a DA/SA trigger system like that in my CZ PCR, but to each their own.

@tinkertalksguns7289 11 месяцев назад
To each their own indeed! I prefer a single action like the 1911/2011, but am quite happy with my DA/SA Cz P-01. I'm OK with a striker-fired gun and while it's not my first choice I know any number of very accomplished shooters that prefer those. A screw for every nut as they say.
