We get it. Riding a bike on the road with cars can be intimidating, especially when you're just getting started. With a little practice, planning, and these helpful tips, you'll build your confidence to enjoy all the incredible benefits of hopping on your e-bike for around town missions and epic adventures. Oh, the places you'll go!
The Benefits of Riding Regularly
Arrive refreshed and ready to take on the day. Exercise is a magical thing and even a brief pedal releases mood-boosting serotonin and dopamine. These lower stress levels and even improve cognitive functions like attention, memory and problem solving. Enjoy the benefits all day long!
Connect with nature and your community. Exchange smiles and greetings with other commuters and happy dogs walking their people while basking in the birds chirping, flowers blooming, and seasons changing.
Save time and money. You might be surprised how much time riding can shave off your morning commute if you battle traffic and parking! Reducing the amount money you spend on gas and maintenance (along with the leaving your legacy a little greener) is just the icing on the commuting cake. Learn how much you'll save and how to take the sting out of a new e-bike purchase here. Hint: it's $5,792 per year!

Good presentation! I would just like to add that the language used when discussing bike lanes incorrectly implied that the presence of a bike lane makes it illegal to use the regular lanes that cars are travelling in. That's generally incorrect and it is often safer to use the regular lanes depending upon the traffic flow and other particulars. Don't always assume the bike lane is mandatory or that it is the safest place to be.

I ride my bike on the Oregon sidewalks if road speeds exceed 25 mph. Painted gutters are not bike lanes. Roads are designed for the fast movement of cars and not safe for pedestrians and cyclists to use.

I just started last week in salem, OR. Everyday i try to make it obvious im going straight when there is cars turning to merge onto I5. Theres clearly signs saying "cars turning yield to bicycles and pedestrians". But yesterday i did my first emergency stop. Pulling on my brakes and as hard as i could while a ford truck cuts in front to turn. His back bed cliped my front wheel and basically knocked the bike out from under me. Luckily i threw myself towards the right as i fell off my bike and i didn't make contact with the truck. Landed on mu shoulder, arm, and thigh. The truck driver got out and was immediately hostile at me. I know now that i definitely need pepper spray because these drivers really rage. I ended up being so scared for my life i told him that I WAS SORRY. which now looking back makes me feel like. Such an idoit. My wheel was damaged and my shifter was messed up. But i let him go and now i need to either look for new bike or replace parts and im left with a big bruise on my thigh/butt and an achy shoulder

Funny way of signaling. We just extend the arm on the side you want to go to. Why do you do both with the left hand?
@ZipZoomZip
@ZipZoomZip Год назад
Signaling is always with the left hand because it stems from the days when motorbikes didn't have turn signals and the riders needed to keep their hand on the throttle. Most states recognize this form of signaling and instruct it in learning courses for people learning how to drive a motor vehicle.

@@ZipZoomZip But it is copied to cycling?

Yes, all cycles, motorized or not, use the same signaling system in the US, although modern cycles have electronic turn signals nowadays. You can single-handedly try to change the conventions of many decades but don't be surprised if other road users don't understand your signals.

Totally agree with you. I think it comes from when you'r car turn signals arn't working. That makes more sense as a driver.

@@SL33P-WALK3R Lol, if they don't work, you're not allowed on the road here.
