As a Caribbean girl, I'm making this with a teaspoon of cake spice (ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground clove, ground ginger). Thank you for another great recipe! ❤️
I love that idea! Thank you for putting it out there! I'm making the cake this Wednesday for a slumber party we're having for our "bubble". There's 2 families from Puerto Rico in ours and their kids love my spice cakes.
So I made this cake. But my bundt pan was too small, so I made two 6 inch pans more. This cake was so good I ate one 6 inch by myself secretly from the family.
The video says 1/2 cup of rum in the sauce and the website says 1/4 cup. Having made it both ways go with the 1/2 cup it is too thick with just 1/4 cup!
I made this rum cake x2 for a Caribbean themed party. Everyone loved it and received so many compliments. There were no left overs at all! Thank you for this recipe!
I had a bad day and I made this cake, (personally, to me baking is therapeutic). Turned out the cake was the best cake I’ve ever made and I felt so cheered up. Thanks John for the recipe ❤️
Great recipe John but is it 3 eggs or 4? You said 3 eggs the first time but the second time you said and wrote 4. Can you clarify this please? Thanks! Love your videos and recipes.
I believe that its 3 if you look at about 1:45 to 1:50 you can see that he's only adding 3 and that he only cracked 3 so if I were to guess it was probably just a small mistake and its actually 3 ^>^
Hi! I absolutely love your recipes! I’m not old enough to use alcohol for things yet, but I’m sure this tastes delicious! Also, I made your eclairs and apple crumble pie and my family loved them! 💖
My husband and I literally just wipped your recipe up and it smells soo good. The rum and butter sauce is like heaven in your mouth 👄I did drizzle a bit of Jamaican overproof rum in it to give it a little extra 🔥 and Lord have mercy on me...it is to die for! Thanks for sharing.
I used my own glaze recipe, but omg let's talk about how nice this cake recipe is! So moist, fluffy and just delicious. I love it. Amazing recipe hun. 😘👨🏻🍳💕
I tried your recipe for the Rum Cake for the Christmas Holidays and it was a major hit. My family loved the cake. It was so moist and delicious. In the past, I made a Spiced Rum Cake using a cake box and vanilla pudding and it was good too but I love this recipe better because it’s from scratch. I prefer baking cakes from scratch. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
I noticed you have a lot of dry stuff at the bottom of your bowl after mixing. This used to happen to me until someone told me about an adjustable screw on the mixer that lowers the top to get the mixing tool closer to the bottom of the bowl. Since then I don't have any more problems with leftover dry ingredients on the bottom, it's been life-changing!
@Miranda mom: agreed, I’ve used that same recipe for 20 years & this is a nice respite. And the other one didn’t have the same rum sauce it was more of a syrup.
First of all, thank you John for teaching me how to bake, I love to cook, but I was always scared to bake due to many bloopers I went through, and thanks to you I feel complete in the kitchen 😅 ... I made this cake, and it looked just like yours, and it tasted soooo good 😌... I’m your student for life! ❤️
This reminds me of when I was a kid. We would have a pound cake and my Dad would make a 'hard sauce'. He cooked it on the stove using rum and other things I no longer recall. We would have slices of pound cake and the sauce would be poured onto it so the cake would absorb it. It was a wonderful Fall/Winter dessert. Thank you for taking me back to my childhood John. Beso!
I did this exact recipe but I did it with Hennessy instead. I made it similar to the Neiman Marcus cake with the brandy soaked raisins at the bottom of my pan so it made like a caramel brandy raisin topping oh my God it was amazing
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it the other day and it was a hit. Thank you so much for the video, you made it so fun and so easy to follow along. 😊🥰
John, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Thanks for all of the recipes that you share. They're like little feel-good gifts you send us all year long! Much love!
Hey John!! I am such a fan of you and your recipes! You make baking look so easy and fun! I am literally making a batch of your sugar cookies right now!
This cake is sooooooo delicious!!! ❤️❤️❤️I’d made a rum cake recipe using a box cake and I knew there had to be a better homemade version. So glad I found this video. I added an additional tbsp of butter just before the rum sauce was fully cooled. It added a little something. Thanks!!!
Here is RSA (Republic of South Africa) we have no liquor sales due to Covid-19.... So this needs to for a month of 3. Can't wait to make this with Captain Morgan Dark Rum. 💫
Adult supervision required. 🙂 The rum I mean. All of the alchohol cooks off. Can't get drunk. Might be able to get imitation rum flavor, might not taste right though.
Alcohol is not permitted in my religion so I won’t be making this and if your saying that you take out the alcohol it’s still not allowed because the alcohol had touched it
John, you have this uncanny ability to know exactly what I'm craving each and everytime you post a video. Gathering ingredients to bake along with the video! I tip my hat to you Sir.
This looks absolutely amazing!! Found your channel like 2 months ago and I've been baking some of your recipes lately and my family LOVES them all! Thanks for all these wonderful recipes John ❤🤩
Just tried this rum cake….OMG…the best ever. My oven at 325 degrees took 60 minutes. I used Captain Morgan’s spiced rum cuz that is what was on hand. I doubled the topping and brushed on 1/3rd of the rendered glaze prior to adding cream to the remaining 2/3rds then….realized I was out of heavy cream sooooo I used cream cheese. It worked. Very tasty. Just a dollup on a slice will do. It would be excellent with fresh berries . The cake had amazing texture.
Big fan!! Every one of your recipes is a hit! Learning a lot! Have a question - Can I put rum soaked fruits (raisins, cherries, dates), if yes how much can be put? (Measurement in cups) and will any other (sugar or other things) ingredient measurement vary because of this inclusion? Really looking forward to a reply.
Ugh that rum cake looks so yummy! Now I'm a little confused what to bake for Christmas. hahaha. Thank you John for always giving us wonderful recipes. Merry Christmas to you and your family!❤️
I literally just got done making rum cake! It’s cooling now with the glaze! On to the eggnog next! Giving a slice of rum cake & eggnog as gifts to friends and family this year!
Omg thank goodness you posted this. I usually make rum cake using boxed yellow cake mix and vanilla pudding mix but now i can't find those in stores and my cousin is alreadt bugging me. This is in time for new year
Hi John: I love your recipes, I have looked on your page for your version of Seven Up Cake, but I can't find it, I would love for you to publish it since there are many on the internet or RU-vid but none is the same as the other, it would be nice to see how You do it because I trust your recipes a lot and the amounts in grams, I always use my scale since grams are the perfect measurements for the kitchen. Greetings from Miami
MY CAKE BUBBLED!!!!! I cannot find buttermilk anywhere. It’s all low fat if I do. So I made my own. Vinegar and whole milk. I used the exact rum you use. It was all looking good til I added the last bit of flour, rum, buttermilk to the batter. I’m like….THIS LOOKS WEIRD. I LOOKED PERFECT A MINUTE SGO. I threw it in the oven, I turn on the light and the batter has big bubbles. I don’t know what happened. I’m sad. 😮💨😮💨😭😔😮😮
Hello, I made your rum cake yesterday. In the beginning of your verbal instructions you said "sift" the flour, etc. However in your visual presentation you used a whisk tool to mix the dry ingredients together. I followed the visual and whisked. The outcome was a dense cake. Next time I will sift (using a sifter) to blend the dry ingredients. I think the result will be a lighter texture. The cake was otherwise tasty. Thanks.
I am confused- John put in 3 eggs and at one point an said 3 large room temperature eggs- then had written on the screen 4 eggs- Was this a correction? Looks AMAZING! I want to make sure I get it right.
After watching this Cool Demonstration Baking RUM Cake I'm Jonesing for that Delicious Cake. Going to make German Chocolate Rum Bundt Cake with lots and lots of Rum Mmm mm I'm Really Jonesing now,
@@PreppyKitchen yes, you should. I also have a wonderful recipe for a Nutty but Nice salted peanut cake made with Spanish peanuts. The frosting has a cooked flour mixture and is curiously flavored with almond extract. Big three layer cake. My most favorite cake of all.
You are my baking guru. But so many of your recipes have buttermilk and I cannot find it here in India. Buttermilk is chaachh in Hindi, traditionally it is a salty spicy drink. Packaged butter milk is not common and the few ones available are spicy. So you can't use them in baking. What would be a buttermilk alternative please? And thank you for all your lovely cooking.
Recipe says cake flour, video you used all purpose, Recipe says 3 large eggs and 2 egg yolks, you used 3 large eggs on video but caption on video says 4 large eggs. You need to make a few adjustments on this cake tuturial.
Looks heavenly! I'm thinking of cooling the cake in the pan. poking holes in it while it's still in the pan, pouring 3/4 of the glaze over it and letting it sit for 24 hours. Do you think that, after 24 hours I can invert the cake and then use the remainder of the glaze? If so, should I put the glaze in the fridge? Heat it up slightly when I take it out? I understand the cake can sit for 24 hours on the counter and not in the fridge.
I just bought the tilt kit KitchenAid artisan mixer like you’re using and because it did not come with the spatula scraping beater I bought it and it’s fantastic. I think you would enjoy it you don’t have to scrape the bowl very much if ever.
Thank you John for all your recipes your an amazing cook 👩🍳 Merry Christmas 🎄 to you your husband and your two boys I hope you have a wonderful Christmas x
Looking for a good cake to make for my husbands birthday 🎂 can wait to recreate this recipe I’m sure he would love it and yes I’m adding those spices !!! ❤
Making this today! Question, on your video you said to use 3 large room temperature eggs. On the written recipe, on your website, it says to use 4 room temperature eggs. I was wondering which to do? I’d like it to turn out like it should. Help! 😊
