Hello! Thank you for the wonderful video. I would be grateful if you answered a question for me, please. Does back heel release contact with the floor before the front heel touches the floor? I want to know if at any point of the forward walk both heels are off the floor. Thank you
Hello Katerina, the back heel definitely releases contact with the floor before the front heel touches it. If you try to keep both heels on the floor during the weight transfer you would drop down a bit which is not an idea of Rumba walks. I hope my answer helps you to better your dancing :-)
Hi, great video and explanation. You have mentioned something in it about 'completing hip rotation' which i haven't heard explained before. When i tried it, my balance was much better but i notice that the line of my back leg had externally rotated so that my knee is facing outward.....is this correct? or should my knee be facing the floor? (hope this makes sense)
+Aleah Al Saffaf - oh yes and i am also struggling that when i'm allowing that completion of hip rotation, i find that i want to move the heel of my standing leg otherwise i struggle with remaining balanced....any tips?
+Aleah Al Saffaf The heel of the standing leg when completing the rotational hip action should stay on the floor. In fact the body weight is not even on the ball of the foot when that action is achieved. We only move the weight toward the ball of the foot when we continue the movement forward and rotational hip action will change into settling hip action of the opposite hip.
+Michael Litke thanks for that explanation, I am much more stable in my walks without my Latin shoes on, but with shoes on my weight is automatically carried on the balls of my feet. controlling where my weight is in my shoes is something I will have to work on. thanks again 😁 can we get more videos about chacha locks??
You are welcome! :) Btw, I see you also post a video instructing us to choose good - quality dancing shoes. I am just wondering why I can keep my balance quite well on bare foot, but when it comes to dancing shoes I often find it is more difficult than other learners in my class. I once thought it was because of my shoes, however when I let someone else wear mine, she said it is ok, very firm. :( a bit sad as i have been practicing hard.Thank you in advance! :)
It might have to do with the way you use your feet while wearing the shoes. I would suggest to speak to your instructor to talk you through correct feet placing when dancing.
This is the best instruction I've ever watched!!! Thanks so much Michael! I've gained more confidence with my basic rumba movement now. :) ~ I am looking forward to more video from you ~
Lovely thanks , us older learners struggle on rumba techniques, any good instruction on getting the basic hip settle and related body position is more than welcome.
