Rumi: How Will You Be Polished?

The great Jalaluddin Rumi (qs) states, "If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished?" In this simple yet beautiful verse from the Mathnawi, he points to the fact that it is only through humility and surrender that a servant of God advances upon the spiritual path, and so we must be patient when triggered so as to progressively transcend the self (ego).

Brother Ihsan. Mediation completely changed my life. I used to smoke marijuana daily, and that was my daily focus throughout the day. I used to always live in the past and i was always scared of what the future held because of the positions i was putting myself in. Smoking weed all day everyday and ruining my perspective on life slowly. Meditation. That is real power. Subhanallah w alhamdulillah. It completely changes your persoective and outlook on life. You slowly start to realize that YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS. You have full capabilites of living in the PRESENT. And that's the key to a happy life, to live in the PRESENT. Neither getting depressed over the past, or anxious over the future. But to live in the PRESENT and have full faith in ALLAH SWT. Allahu Akbar.

In this video, Ustadh says.. Very insightful. ... "The spiritual path is learning to trust the heart even when the mind protests." I wondered and asked Ustadh Ihsan during the Awakenings Academy gathering : 'Should we then avoid to ponder on the self not to give it more importance in the process? Should we connect with the heart only and dismiss the mind.. How to use our minds to ponder over ourselves but still remain connected?' His answer, a powerful reminder : Let your mind serve your heart. 1 - Quiet the mind completely : quiet from your thoughts, opinions, story, knowledge concepts... 2 - Connect with your heart, tune in to the divine presence, the present moment through meditation and breathing to receive divine guidance. (with consistent practice often it will become natural) 3 - Only then, use your mind to ponder, reflect, and plan next steps. This process explained by Ustadh allowed me to understand practically how to submit my mind to serve my heart. Now I need to make this a consistent practice so it becomes my default state insha'Allah. BarakAllahu fik.

The Course in Spiritual (www.borderpoint.com/spiritualhealing) Healing and Awakenings Academy (www.borderpoint.com/awakeningsacademy) also have meditation audio soundtracks that have ambient background music, yet they also have voice-only versions without music for those who may prefer. Polish the gem, not crack it. You say ascendance requires you to die? That's like saying you must die to build muscles instead of subjecting yourself to strain that gets you to adapt. The physical that we take for granted shows us how the spiritual works
