RUN BOURNEMOUTH HALF MARATHON 2024 PREVIEW | RACE & SHOE DISCUSSION | EDDBUD
Today i give you my RUN BOURNEMOUTH Half Marathon preview for 2024, a race i am really excited to be taking part in on October 13th 2024.
Its a low elevation road race, with potentially some really great views from up on the cliff tops and i hope some nice long stretches with fewer bends than some city races.
I talk race preparation and training along with shoe selection and my race time predictions. Let me know how you think i will do down in the comments, and also if you are aiming to be at the event also let me know!
Probably going for the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 for this one though i never rule out a late sub!
Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.

1:29:15 I think you'll find a little bit extra in the tank and come in with a sprint finish 🚀 I was watching Rodney Come Home (the episode after Jolly Boys) and at 25 minutes Del and Rodney go for a meeting in the boardroom and I noticed 4 large boxes of hooky Persil on a shelf behind them. They must have had those since Diamonds Are for Heather!

Apparently they changed the algorithm with the new update, not sure if it's better. It shows slower times for me, but that may be just me being not as fit anymore!

Edd I am so excited that you are coming over to run in Bournemouth. A few years ago, I ran it for the first time with your shoe recommendation - I was just getting into running at that point. I ran with the Takumi Sen 6 with an innov-8 insole. So gutted to miss it this year! Go for that great finish at the end! I will be rooting for you!

Go with the big cat mate. Love to see how they hold up. Be careful with that hill on mile 8, screwed me up when I did the full marathon there, almost had a DNF but there wasn't a sign of the rescue shuttle bus so ran half of it on one leg. Good luck, enjoy 🏃

Ah, fond memories of playing Mr Smiths in the early 90s! Ran this last year and the slight climb from the start is comfortable and the cruise down to the seafront is very welcome. That steep climb and drop from mile 8-9 are nasty and ruined me for the last 5k! Take it easy there and good luck, Ed! 🙏🏻

Best of luck Ed! 💪 Got my 2nd 1/2 marathon coming up on the same day over in Eindhoven. Not quite the same elevation concerns as Bournemouth however, with dizzying Dutch highs of 29 meters above sea level. Which I think is a little bridge that goes over a canal 😂

Good luck with the race! Sub 1:30 for sure. Did Tonbridge half last week, tough course. Never race that distance. Used Sky Paris, light/great cushioning but with an average 4:05/km pace it’s not fast enough to get the best out of them. Definitely needed something with a nice rocker towards the end (was missing my Axon 3s!). Something to consider if do another half. Took Maurten 160 gel between 30-60mins. Got bad heartburn 😳 Also something else to consider if do another half! (I did use it in training but wasn’t running as fast - also opened it before start so didn’t have to while running which worked well). Think might stick to the shorter stuff!

The SIS are what I have returned to due the price of so many others. I have ordered some of the 150mg caffeine ones and will also be using Saltstick chews for the Abingdon marathon on 20th October. I am terrified given it is the first full mara for 9 years. I will be using either the Asics Metaspeed Sky + (a virutally new pair) or the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2...good luck next Sunday.

Yes they have made some subtle changes and it seems bang on. The 5k and 10k predictions are pretty much exactly my current PB

Good luck with the race. I've got the Kingston Half tomorrow. Hoping to PB with 1:35 or better, outside chance of a 1:30, but have been suffering from a cold for the last fortnight :(. Could be tempted to do a last minute sign-up for Bournemouth as I happen to be staying in Poole the night before. Love the eels! Great memories of uni days listening to them too.

I'm in Bournemouth next Sunday, doing the half. I'll be the guy with the tiger print on the front of his vest. Haven't ran there since the marathon was stopped. That hill is a bit of a killer from memory, but short. Good luck.

Best of luck Edd, fingers crossed the weather is kind and you’ll get your sub 1:30. I’m on the edge of that myself at the moment, managed 1:29:59 in March and almost blew up trying! Chasing a 6:52 mile, every mile is hard work! Worth the punishment though when it’s all done and you’ve got your medal. Pain is temporary and all that. Be interested to see what the Bournemouth half is like if you’re going to do a race review vid 👍

@@EDDBUD hopefully better than last weekend. I was due to run the Torbay half and it was cancelled due to 50mph winds. Wouldn’t have been much fun on the seafront! One good thing about Autumn though, hopefully cooler temperatures 😌

Hoka rocket 2 vs metaspeed sky plus for shorter 5-10k speed sessions? Rocket £180 sky plus £220. Sky Paris, deviate nitro elite 3 all sold out 🤦‍♀️

@@chazb53 something more responsive for the res. The endorphin pro 4 are a good middle of the road race / trainer. Durable enough for distance training but also light enough for pace

@@chazb53 yes the sb2 is strangely hard to buy. They did a similar strategy with the v1. The peba foam in the Saucony lasts that bit longer due to the pellet form. Good balance of durability and usability
