This Transcription of the main theme and solo by Marcus Miller took me some time ... To get all the nuances right within these complex and highly advanced Slap Riffs is quite a task. The transcription you see in the video is available as PDF. Just send me your Email, i'll forward it to you.
Alleva Coppolo LG5 in passive Mode into the Rheingold BP-2 PreAmp into the Diamond Bass Comp into the Laptop.
The LG5 Bass has 60's PU Spacing but nevertheless it sounds amazing. Marcus himself played his legendary Fender 4 String with a Maple Neck, 70's Spacing and the Sadowsky Onboard Preamp.

This cat has been practicing! Really well done with the playing and articulation. I've struggled with this track for months! The section I find driving me nuts is 1:42 to 1:48. I never knew ~6 seconds could take so long to learn properly. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hey Wayne, thx for your kind words. Funny thing is, that the exact section you mentioned got a tiny update and i uploaded a new version of this song with a more proper choice of bass, a 73 jazz with maple neck. Its just a nuance with the open g-string, which is more involved than played in this version. Feel free to check out the new one, maybe with the slow down function it will work out eventually! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IME84cAQXO0.html

@@RobertSchulenburg thanks a million. I'm literally about to warm up the bass right now and play this. That section's been driving me nuts. I stopped playing it and feel the need to complete it properly now.

Robert Schulenburg How would you compare them to Laklands? I've never played an Alleva Coppollo, but they look and sound fantastic!
@RobertSchulenburg
@RobertSchulenburg 5 лет назад
@@Surfer8652 There are different Lakland Models out there - The AC Basses are very close to vintage fender basses, maybe similar to the Darryl Jones or Joe Osborn Models from Lakland. The 55-94 Laklands are a bit more modern i think, due to the Humbucker Pickup. AC Basses also only have a 34 Scale, Laklands tend to have 35 - I think you can get awesome Basses from both brands. AC Basses are a bit more expensive but also have a good value when you are selling them again.
@Surfer8652
@Surfer8652 5 лет назад
Thanks Robert. I'm very familiar with Laklands and own several different models but have never played an AC. My question is more about comparing similar models like your AC LG5 vs. a Lakland Joe Osborn 5 or a 55-AJ. Aside from the shorter scale length, how would you compare the fretwork, neck dimensions, neck finish, and overall build quality (keeping in mind that a Joe Osborn 5 has a neck virtually identical to your 55-94)? Which models do you find easier to play?
@RobertSchulenburg
@RobertSchulenburg 5 лет назад
@@Surfer8652 I like the Neck of my AC more than the 55-94. The AC Neck is a little slimmer but on the 55-94 you could reach the higher register easier than on the AC due the the lower horn. Jimmy Coppolo had some build quality issues over the years, you can research it in forums like talkbass. My AC is from 2008 and has some cosmetic issues, like a crackling poly finish which you shouldnt cope with in this price register BUT overall it feels and sounds amazing that eventually i sold my lakland ...

Sounds amazing. How do you do the fast triplet? thumb + pop1 + pop2 , or a combination of just Thumb + Pop? Thanks

You seem to be "popping" the strings so effortlessly ... I always have to work so hard ... it is your setup or your bass or are your hands just so strong that I can't see the effort?
@RobertSchulenburg
@RobertSchulenburg 5 лет назад
Neobop3 You are right about the setup. I usually play with a very low string setup combined with a soft touch. Gary Willis is a good example and teacher for this method. You could try to even the neck and get the string height down to the point that it would begin to buzz a little bit when you push harder and with a normal attack it would be without buzzing.
