Recorded back in 1992 Loco movements around Wigan Loco depot.
Watch for the class 47 run away after the handbrake was left off and the man jumping in the cab to stop it before it hits the class 08.Also some vandals have set fire to old tyres on waist ground and an old style fire engine arrives to put out the flames.Again recorded on tape so quality ain't great.

The green piggyback wagons at 5:45 used to run to us at Cricklewood, the train finished late summer 92.

Wow!! Great video. Brings back so many memories. I used to live in Southport in the mid 90s so Wigan and Warrington were our local mainline spots. I have a feeling my dad has a video on here from around a similar era.......maybe a tad earlier as there are 20s on Bickershaw coal

Nice to see how it use to be. Spent many an hour on that very spot. Still only live two minutes away from there, but it's changed so much.

Real good video.Natural in terms of camera work and in particular the sound. Lots of current stuff has overdone close ups but worse of all unrealistic sound with the 'aid' of all the mikes , with lots of exagerrated bass or occassionally treble,coming and going. This seems real, not museum-like.

Good man … these days a risk assessment would have had to be completed before jumping into the cab lol

At 6:47 that Class 86/87 is sandwiched in between MK2 and MK3 coaches, you know the reason for this?
@pete37038
@pete37038 8 лет назад
Motorail coaches on the rear of the 87.

Ah right, I know what the InterCity Motorail coaches are, they are used to carry cars inside the bodyshell pretty cool for its time, It quite funny how they can't couple the Motorail coaches in the one set, is it to make it easy to unload the cars at the platform?
@Phil6219
@Phil6219 7 лет назад
The motorail coaches don't have TDM jumper cables so need to go on the rear, if they were between the loco and DVT then the train wouldn't be able to be driven from the DVT at the front :)

Cheers man.
@ianvirco5897

The DVT sets were used as fixed formations, even if the motorail vans had TDM jumpers it would have involved a huge amount of shunting at both ends of the journey to get them 'inside' the train formation. I guess the previous inbound working of this set was signalled into the motorail platform onto the vans already positioned there, at the destination the station shunt engine would hook the vans off and shunt them to the motorail platform.

In some ways they look like a 47 brought forward in to time. The 47 has a classic look with it's rounded edges. The 60 looks better than the corrugated iron sheds on the network these days.
