Funny how Jagex apparently did the exact opposite of every other developer. Started with banning players after swearing three times, and now just tolerating the most vile sentences a human being can utter while telling players to just suck it up. Yet nowadays people get banned for using words that contain letters that together form a misspelled version of a 'naughty word' like kumquat. Or like not being able to name a custom class 'Assault' in COD because of the first three letters. Sometimes it makes it even worse, like the guy whose username was partly censored... Poor Nasser.

Thank you for making this! I'm someone that has been in the false bans boat for over half a year now on my UIM with 6k+ hours and the video was quite comforting since I feel like a lot of process of dealing with a false ban is yelling as loud as you can, yet not having your voice heard which feels deeply helpless. The part in the conclusion about being nervous about false bans when playing the game is such a real thing. My personal experience with that is that I just get stressed when playing the game and it boots me to the login screen and I try logging in again only to find out I just disconnected and can log in again perfectly fine. I believe an obvious, yet often unstated factor contributing to likelihood of false bans would be previous ban history. My UIM got a false ban after 10 or so days after starting to play on it, but it was a temporary 2 day botting ban and I already had over 100+ hours on it that I didn't want to replay, along with an ongoing membership I didn't want to go to waste. I decided to just suck it up, wait the 2 days and keep playing. About 4 months later I was hit with a permaban, but I was fortunate enough that support system got me in contact with someone and just a few hours later I was unbanned. I continued to put another few thousand hours into the account, getting the account to 2.1k total with some big ticket UIM drops. And then, I got banned again, this time over a year after the previous ones to which I still haven't had any dice getting a Jmod to look into it. The reason why I believe I can isolate that factor is because my maxed main and 1.9k duo GIM are entirely untouched by any kind of infraction, despite me doing the exact same or similar things on them such as training methods for thousands of hours. It should be blatantly obvious on Jagex's end that all of my accounts are under my ownership as well. Thus, I would guess a lot of my issues arose from the ban I got about 10 days into the account, despite it being "just" a temporary ban it has caused so much headache and heartache for me down the line. With hindsight, I regret not just sucking it up, losing the rest of the membership on the account and redoing the progress I had made since it was just a hundredish hours compared to the thousands I now stand to never be able to get back. Still, no one should ever be pushed to decide to give up hours of progress and days of membership just because they caught a ban for being a newer account.

Also im not so sure how much reports count or maybe things are different in RS3 but during Fresh Start Worlds I made 4 alt account that all power leveled with the FSW boosted xp rates to get them all set up as afk accounts. I dress them all the same and gave them all the same name with 1 digit difference and the sheer amount of people who automatically assume im botting and insta report me is insane! My accounts much have been reported hundreds of times and luckily ive never caught a false ban. Ive been watching my screen when some people talk about "hey look at those obvious bots all stacked up over there, make sure to report em" to which I normally respond "Your moms a bot" and that makes me feel something in life.

You've reminded me of when I tried to intoduce my friend to OSRS; we played for a few hours and then I headed off for the night, and the next day he told me his account had been permenantly banned. I can only assume it has something to do with him living in Chile, as I don't believe he would cheat in OSRS seeing as he'd never played it before

Happened to me 4 years ago on an account nearly full-maxed on RS3 with several max cash stacks from a decade of no-life play. Got hit for a false macro ban. I asked for literally any shred of evidence against me and I was promptly told their system doesn't make mistakes, as it is very sophisticated. Since I was a naughty-mouthed boy at the ripe age of 16, I got hit with that 3-month big boy ban for this being an additional offense to ones sitting for years. In response, I stopped playing for 4 years up until a new co-worker mentioned the game. Probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. Years before the macro offense, I had used auto-clicker for alching and auto-type before GE because I felt like I was developing arthritis before having a driver's license. I hadn't used anything like this for upwards of 2-3 years at the time. Never got hit for those at all? 🤔 Well, all my offenses seem to be wiped from my account since that time, so let's try again. If it happens again, I'm out. Like 10K hours in the game is a lot of time to have to deal with being banned as an adult trying to relax and enjoy my free time. And I could give a **** if your system is sophisticated at that point. I've enjoyed the game for many years and hope to for several more, but it isn't worth getting sat in a naughty corner for months while I watch the same dude with 100s of hacked accounts trying to scam people at GE, "Selling bank 350M" over and over and over all day. Would be pretty cool to address those people who are destroying the economy of both versions of the game before hitting people for fishing 14hours in a row while watching movies with friends on Discord lmao.

My account was falsely banned until recently, after somebody had hijacked it. The person didn't do any damage on the account, in fact quite the opposite - and was a Revenant farm bot. Made me a decent amount of GP lol. After appealing the ban and explaining my end, Jagex denied my appeal. I then submitted another ticket under an entirely different issue since you can't appeal a ban more then once, explaining that I'd been falsely banned, and my account was quickly unbanned as it was explained to me that they'd then noticed IP differences in my account from the person who had logged onto it, and understood the situation. What frustrated me was the lack of communication, and this being a several month long process of attempting to get the account back after being denied at the first appeal, which shouldn't have happened in the first place. Great video! At least my understanding of what happened in my situation is more clear now.

My account was banned over a year ago and I haven't played since. False bans are a serious issue and should be dealt with better. I love runescape but I cannot bring myself to pour 1000s of hours in to another account just for it to potentially be banned without recourse.

I got a 2 day ban for logging into the mobile app on my 2k total main as well as my nearly maxed 1 def pure. I didn’t realize the correlation until 5 months later when I logged into the mobile app on my pure, and woke up the next day to a permanent ban. THANK GOD I didn’t log into my main that day, but tears were shed regardless. That ultimately led me to quit playing the game completely in fear of losing my account that i’ve put 10 years into. Tried to appeal both times and it was instantly denied. So yeah lost 3 months play time for logging into the mobile app :(

Funny how there's all these false bans going around yet every F2P world has hundreds of bots that have got to 99 in multiple skills that just sit around skilling 24/7 and never get banned

I tried making an alt for the first time last month and was banned after 8 hours of playtime. Fine enough, I can eat losing a full waking day, I can eat losing the money I paid to give it membership for 8 hours. But what that takes away is all of my confidence to play my main. It's like shit, if I can be banned for doing nothing wrong, what's stopping my main account that I've been playing daily for 2 years from getting banned too? If these two accounts are functionally the same, being played on the same computer by the same person, then there's absolutely no safe way in hell for me to even THINK about logging into my main account that I love and have worked so hard on. And that fucking sucks! I mean I still do anyway, because come on, look at us. But it severely impacts how I play. I don't buckle down for long grinds. I don't do repetitive tasks anymore. It's just this constant anxiety and malaise where I'm worrying that one wrong step will put me down the same hidden trapdoor my gimmick alt fell down and I'll lose everything. I wish I could go back to before I made that alt so I could at least do the grinds I enjoy without worrying. Thank you for making this video, it's so exhausting when all the air in the room is taken up by players who are just waiting for a JMod Smackdown and won't hear you out or give you the time of day when you just want to play your favorite video game again.

I had an account hacked and banned while I took a break, returned a few years later to see it perm banned for major macroing. My thoughts were once a real person reviews and sees I was hijacked, they would return it. I figured like the discussion points in the video, player behavior, IP logs, hacker likely sold/traded my shit off, name change etc would not match my 15 year play style. I was told that the ban was correctly applied but they were going to unban me because enough time has passed where they thought I had learned my lesson. I got my account back but I did not feel great about it. Very copy and paste response from a 15 second review.

this video inspired me to try out multiaccounting on 3 f2p accounts at the same time, all i did was some quests, a bit of smithing, had some of the most fun i have had in osrs in a long time, and then all 3 got false banned for "macroing" after a single day, and then promptly had all 3 appeals rejected after 2 days with 0 further information. how the hell does this even happen in any competent system. it especially sucks since i really want to try multiaccounting again since it was really fun but i dont want to deal with more false bans either, so my choice is either have fun muiltiaccounting and get false banned after a day, or high alch for another million years on my main to do something fun again

I was accused of botting on my main account and when I tried to appeal it, they just said "Nahhh we know you were botting and we wont tell you why. I did not bot at all an now my level that was almost 100 lvl combat is just gone and ever since then I just cant get back into the game. Some people have no problem restarting another account and thats great for some people but man dude it took me forever to get to that level and not just my combat everything else. Completely unrelated game but if you and a few friends report one person unlawfully on Call Of Duty they will put your account "under review" and itll take 2 weeks before they say if you are banned or not. The problem is you are temporary banned in that period. You sit in limbo and you just sit there never finding a match. People on Call Of Duty get so salty about dying they will report anyone for anything. I know Runescape is different but there are still toxic people out there so idk how Jagex report system is just something to think about

Years ago, I took a vacation to move. I had VERY little money, and I had had been very overworked. I spent some of my last money on game of thrones and runescape, and in the middle of moving, I took a couple days off to play runescape. It was the first game I ever paid a subscription for. I played f2p as a kid and I was so excited to finally get in. I decided to level my runecrafting up to a high level and watch all of game of thrones. So I for about 12 hours straight was grinding the skill and alt-tabbing to watch the show. Then my computer crashed, and when I rebooted, I had been banned. When I appealed and asked for help, I was mocked. I have had a seething passion for that garbage company ever since.

Insightful look at how difficult it is to maintain security at scale! You will have false positives, metrics will be gamed, and as you improve your security the opposition will improve their strategy. IMO the best method is to silently jail bad actors -- let them click and type, but filter their inputs, limit their actions. This makes it easier to unjail false positives and limits the speed with which bad actors can learn.

This was a really nice video, thanks for taking the time to make it. It is unfortunate that there really is no answer, and we can't exactly just let botting ruin the economy even more than it already has without that ruining large parts of the game. A very difficult problem to solve to the satisfaction of both the company and the players, while to the dissatisfaction of the botters.

My wife and I just started playing OSRS again a few weeks ago. Fresh accounts. We get a limited free time together, having 17 month old twins. We are really enjoying the game again, and you cannot make this up... we were literally going to buy memberships last night to find out my account has been banned for botting. No real explanation or anything. I have never botted in my life, past or present. It is really disheartening. We just got out of the 20 hour trade threshold and were gonna buy memberships. I sent in an appeal immediately, anyone know what the chances are that they actually overturn the ban?

I'm reminded of FFXIV's housing system, basically each plot is a physical spot in the map which means it's heavily limited. They'll add new wards every year or so but it's never, ever enough. So there's a system where if you don't enter your house (or a Free Company member doesn't enter the FC house) for 45 days it gets demolished and put up for auction. Every big patch where there's 24hr maintenance there's a few posts that blow up from someone claiming they were definitely in their house before the patch and it was gone when they logged in, cue rampant misinformation and fearmongering, and no small amount of internet fighting. And every single time it's not true. The OP of the post is either trolling, misremembering when they entered the house, or just lying. Basically, a slightly obtuse system in which it's entirely the player's word against the server/GM that leads to a ton of false information and drama. Absolutely not nearly as bad as a false ban, (though ffxiv housing is almost as hard to regain!) but most of the false ban stories that come up in FFXIV are actually proven to be botting somehow. Especially doing player market manipulation or RMT. Personal favorite was the time some people who'd joined a mercenary run /watched the client RMT for their payment/ a few months back.

Thought i'd share my story for a second before watching this vid I got my first ever 2 day ban on the 8th doing cg and got kicked out mid kill. I never believed false bans were really a thing but the topic seems to be getting louder and louder now. I haven't used any 3rd party software or macro etc. I just use runelite like everyone else. The first theory on reports is the only one I can think of. If I wear nothing and sit in the gauntlet lobby sometimes I come back (I have 20 min logout timer) and someone in chat has asked am I bot, they see me not reply and they then say 'reported' or smth along the lines. This has happened a couple of times that I know of. This is the only thing I can think of that maybe might have false flagged me so what i've started doing is wearing gear and I never afk in gauntlet lobby anymore I just log out or sit at prif bank lmao (better safe than sorry). Most ppl don't believe false bans exist still and I still wouldn't if I didn't get a 2 day ban. (except for the tiny tiny minority because everything automated inevitably won't be foolproof). I'm also convinced the appeal system is absolute bs and is fully automated. I waited 2 days and got some very generic response, they must get 1000s a day from real bots.

Botting is just such a weird thing to understand, I can see why it's so complex to find bots compared to real folks with the hundreds of thousands of accounts made. The graph shown for bot activity was amazing to look at. Thank you for the fun and hard work hannah :^)

This was a very validating video. Thank you for covering this, Hannah. I got banned a while ago I think cuz multilogged on stream after moving all my old accs to a jagex acc. I got dunked on reddit asking about it to avoid a false ban in the future

I got 2 false bans. Never botted or had any infractions aside from the false bans. got my main back after the 3 year window and don't have the will to play it since to me, another false ban is an absolute certainty down the road. I'll tell you right now, if I come back to this game I'm going to bot the absolute shit out of it with no fucks to give. If I'm going to have to do the time irrespective of how I'm playing, I may as well benefit from the crime that i will be punished from whether or not I even do it. The overall experience makes me sympathize with botters because they're the smart ones not wasting and gambling their time on a bot detection system from 20 years ago with no support of any kind at all.

A good friend in my clan caught a false perm ban just over a week ago. He was deathmatching and won a big chunk of gp but got banned for RWT without option to appeal. Presumably the person he fought had some RWT history or something to get him flagged for it. Really sucks

ngl, this bs of not having CS after a false ban is the reason i quit - but this does give me some insight into WHY i may have been banned. Have an ironman, nearly maxed - wanted to make a pure on the side. Had the pure about 2 weeks, constantly skilling (smithing, fletching, alching, crafting) in edge/varrock before i got the ban...Tried to appeal and it was "confirmed by Jmod team". Was also transferring money to it from my de-membered main. 1. money transfer (like 20mil at most im broke lmfao) 2. weird login times (id forget i was playing the pure on the side while doing uzlrah on iron lol) 3. new account 4. "bot like" - doing bank standing shit in varrock west bank i guess Hearing someone say in the video "You banned one of my accounts and not the other? Im botting on one and not the other? seirously jagex?" Really validated my feelings - and also why i dont play rs anymore. Banning my stupid little side project is one thing...but if at any point my Ironman with 2k+ total can just be gone in a heartbeat, no appeal, no communication, just "We're right and we won't discuss it at all" leaves me in a constant state of fear to play the game on my ironman (or at all) and jagex is a shit company and im done...This is the first runescape video ive actually watched since maybe October...Runescape been my love since 2005...not anymore - and its because of this issue. This is a bit off-topic. But I had the name 'Prawn Hub' many years ago. I was doing some pest control and when I world-hopped, my name was removed. I assumed It was removed for being reported too many times at pest control, even though it wasn't that inflammatory in my eyes. However, about a week later I looked the name up on the hiscores and it was there, taken by someone else. I've always wondered, did they have something to do with my name removal, how could they have known that name would be free at that time? And why was it available to be taken if it was deemed 'innapropriate', shouldn't it then have been in a register of non-usable names? After seeing this and hearing that mass reporting does nothing, I am even more baffled.

I figured a lot of the false bans were caused by tweaking detection parameters. Supposedly, they do double check and bans are manual and not automated. So, my guess is they have a detection program or such that will tell an anti-cheat staff that these 1000 players or such are 99% likely to be bots because of these reasons, so after looking over (likely skimming) the proof, they hit the "ban all" button if it seems like bots or an ignore button if it seems off. Then a week or so later, a dif anti-cheat staff looks over the ban report again and if it seems incorrect, they quash it. If that is how it works, then a lot of false bans should be corrected regardless of what players do. But during that week, they will be posting appeals on social and such, so when if it does get quashed during that second review, it may seem like it only got fixed because posting on social media when it may not have been a factor at all. But that is assuming that there actually is a second review and that the second review catches any errors in the first one.

Obviously the information and lack of information was highly entertaining and insightful. But i thoroughly enjoyed all the clips youve added with your character just sitting around, sittin on the table. Felt very real and relaxed. Ty for an other entertaining video and ty for your journalism.

I've got a good reply to the "cost effectiveness" argument in hiring more staff: The community is currently not happy with the current levels of support. It would be an expense in HR, sure, but you can attribute a lot of that to purchasing goodwill from the playerbase. Say the cost per hour is 100 Units? And you'd rather pay 70 Units, or 60? Is purchasing good, strong, player goodwill for the measly cost of 30 or 40 units per worker a better justification? Just because the world keeps turning doesn't mean we are happy with this situation, so please change it and you can make us much happier.

Edit: my comment below wasn't mentioned, but I also thought of something that could be done, which is to have more punitive actions that aren't bans. If all you have is a ban hammer, everyone looks like a nail. Placing restriction on log-time (for X time, you can only play 4 or 6 hours a day), imposing a time out (No logging in for the next X amount of time) or trade restrictions (cant sell more than X million GP's worth of stuff on GE or to players for some amount of time). With those and a strike system, you are more likely to strongly discourage bot farms. Imagine if the bot farmer still makes 50 mil, but now it will take them a month to actually be able to sell it, because each account can only make a million per day and they can't unload all the drops to one unbanned account. And make that action known to the player somehow. I'd wager that most bots would be abandoned at the first trade restriction and only log in when they can freely sell again, while most regular players would still log in to do other stuff, even if it is just dailies or some inefficient skilling/questing grind. I'm at the very start (1:40) but there's a thing I hope you'll mention: the reason why jagex is intentionally vague, and why its so hard to tell what happens in an incorrect ban is that if it was obvious what triggers bot detection, bots would be programmed to do things that avoid detection, making the bot problem worse. In fact, if jagex was actually as fast as possible in banning bots, the bot makers would be able to experiment to make bot accounts, whereas mass bans every 2-6 months means the bot farmer can't know for sure what happen in that time frame that triggered it. it sucks, but its necessary. What they need is a good appeal system to manage the incorrect bans

I was perm banned for botting, never once botted in 17 years, fought it took 2 months, got unbanned but they perm muted me =( but hey at least i have my 17 year old account back right?

I got falsely banned, never got the account back. You'd think exclusively logging in from the steam launcher would have been enough to prevent that... Even when Jagax has full control over the client being used they'll still get ya for no reason. If it is being automated with AI that is quite concerning. After all, they would be using accounts like mine as "an example of botting" when it was just some innocent guy doing his thing. If they are training the AI on false data then this ship will happen on an even larger scale.

I dunno, i think people need to make their voices heard to the jmods a lot more. And I don't mean insulting them or anything like that, however nothing will change until they get annoyed. The company itself doesn't care, thats obvious. Even mod Matt K joked about the share holders not putting up for proper customer service like just about every other game somehow manages to do. The company itself only cares to the extent it HAS to care. And i know it'll suck for the jmods that have to read the posts, but i mean hell they already put up a wall. Thats why they're so quick to piggy back off the community and post the smackdowns, even with false information, which apparently they should be able to easily access. I just got false perm banned for the second time. The disrespect and disregard of my time is hard to stomach. I won't be playing anymore.

My F2P Skiller on RS3 was falsely banned, my 3 alts smithing to make the arrowheads for that acc to get 99 Fletching were left alone. Since then I cancelled the membership of my ~10 RS3 accs and now only pay for my OSRS UIM. I'm saving money, thanks to the mod who said "You were botting, the evidence can't lie."... If I were botting I'd be extremely mad because I was so inefficient on this acc as I was playing my HCIM and had the 4 F2P accs on the side constantly logging out from AFKing too long. I don't care what people think or say. It won't change what happened and it won't change the fact that the only account I will ever pay for now is my UIM. 👍

I got false banned 6 months ago for "macroing" i didn't even know what that was, i just came back to my childhood game and had been absolutely grinding for 4 months. I tried to appeal but it got denied.. I had a full month membership left, i was so disgusted that i just left.. I still don't know why i got banned, so sad..

I got false banned a few months ago. I was F2P all I did was kill hill giants and moss giants. And sell my stuff at the GC. While playing RuneScape, I play another game on the side. Got banned tried looking for a reason, some said it maybe the account was hacked, use that as my appeal, rejected. I played for about 2 months. Came back to OSRS for nostalgia but left burned. Don’t want to play ever again.

The helplessness in these kinds of situations is what makes me unable to get invested in any online games anymore. Just the fact that something you have payed for and spent hundreds or even thousands of hours on, can be taken away at any point through no fault of your own, is just devastating. And most of the time, there is nothing you can do other than cry, whine and hope for mercy.

I was competitively playing a group ironman with friends and after a little over a week and a year membership purchase, I am now banned. All I used was the Jagex client and i've done so many different activities on the account that I am honestly confused where and how they saw me as a bot. I built this new pc in January and theres no chance of me having anything on my PC. I registered the character on a Jagex account and have only logged on the jagex launcher. Its honestly ridiculous.

I literally made an account to solely play on mobile. I leveled the strength to 7 at chickens and logged off. The very next day I went to log in and the account was banned with a denied appeal. Jagex has probably pushed more players away from playing RuneScape than any other. You only get accounts unbanned if you make a fuss on a 3rd party website or you are a content creator with a following. It is kinda pathetic that an account with 7 strength gets banned but there are farms running with billions of combined xp.

I got hit recently on a new account and the appeal was denied. RIP new players. Good thing I have a main that's beyond the "you might get banned for being alive" stage!

Rs3 literally had that cage bot update in the form of an event it was very fun, you could decide how their account would be destroyed too

I just want to add my experience with my false ban. I made an account to do rune crafting only. I made the account on my phone, said hello to steven bot, ran to barb village, grabbed salmon and trout off the ground, did stronghold of security then rune mysteries and went to sleep. The next morning I logged into the account while taking a morning shit and found out I was banned for macroing major. I explained all of this to Jagex and they denied my appeal. I am not making this to complain. I didn't even get a level in any skill, it was like 20 minutes of time, but it's still kinda ridiculous that I was banned so quick.

I saw your video being suggested and decided to click on it and i subbed before the video was over! My bf got hacked a few years ago on his iron man account where they stole all of his valuable items, he tried every possible way to contacted Jagex to no avail. He eventually went to Reddit and a lot of people started saying it's your own fault bla bla (like you said in the vid), eventually a J mod answered and gave a weird vague answer (something like your account wasn't secure which it was) and everyone started turning on Jagex cause they didn't give my bf a smack down nor an decent answer to his question, he kept asking what part wasn't secure. They all started bringing up mod Jed and the post got closed shortly after with the reason a J mod answered it. We never knew who hacked him nor why. It's really devastating hearing that they log everything you do on your account and they still won't give you answers (i knew that already but hearing it is just heartbreaking). I quit playing osrs for over a year out of fear, i have started again recently and i just pray nothing happens to my account.

Ban player trading if they're caught and make anything they drop disappear. Playing as an Ironman for a few days while you appeal isn't the worst thing but will stop bots from profiting

The beginning had me cracking up thinking of all of the people Odablock reported for no reason after murdering them. Imagine Jagex actually banning those mfers 😂

I had an account I made in 2022 that I played all throughout 2022 and even further into 2023 before taking a break. I decided I wanted to get back into OSRS this month and went to log in to the account. Mind you, I made the account in 2022, and prior to that I have *never* played OSRS. Well I go to login to the account, and I'm perm banned. I go check why. It says the account was banned in 2015 for macroing. I didn't even *play* PC games in 2015, I didn't get my first gaming PC till my birthday in 2016, and even then I never played OSRS till 2022. So, idk how I was retroactively banned 9 years ago on an account that didn't even exist at the time on a PC I didn't even own yet. I sent Jagex a support message 2 weeks ago explaining the situation, and I have yet to get a reply.

I really hate that people trash mob people who get banned for no legitimate reason. As if Jagex does not ever falsely ban legit players. I got banned for Macroing in OSRS at a time when I had not even played OSRS before. So when I tried asking for help. I got trashed on by people calling me a liar. Funny how they claim I lied when they don't have any proof. I get that there are cheaters who say they did nothing wrong, but acting like Jagex is perfect is also dumb.

This recently happened to a friend of mine just a couple days ago. He has gotten beaver, rat pet and prime all this week. Playing manually doin sacred eels and redwoods on mobile. He doesn't bot and we have been raiding the last couple weeks. Of course when he tries to appeal it is denied because the system is automated. I don't know what he's going to do, he is maxed, had a lot of pets, blood torva and everything.

These were both in RS3, however I've had two false bans. One false ban was on a new ironman account, I played pretty heavy hours for two days and logged in banned for macroing major. The odd thing with this one, is I was doing various activities, mostly questing. I contacted a JMod on Twitter and had the ban quashed. In the other scenario, I attempted to use a controller through the steam launcher, doing afk tasks like herb cleaning (didn't even need to use the joystick because of keybinds, A for "1", B for "space", RB for click etc. It just allowed me to lay back and watch a movie/series on the other monitor while being comfortable, as I deal with back pain. Pretty much immediately banned for macroing major for this, however this one was only for a few days. I am also autistic, so "I'm not a bot, I'm just autistic".

hey, former bot programmer here. I had a suite of bots back in the day that didn't have any hard-coded values- every hard value had a random range that could be added to it or a 'miss' action that didn't quite hit the mark and then recover .. it would randomly choose new activities or 'exploring' where it wasted time doing inefficient things... reporting from that suite said only .2% of accounts that used the bot suite were banned compared to a 20% overall for my single purpose, less complex bots. touch screens have widely made most older style script detection less effective as for years it was the movement deviation of the mouse and the speed: precision ratio that lead to unwanted attention. incompetance greed and complacency are what get people Caught today

I have literally no idea why my childhood main account got banned. All I know is 7 years later the ban has been removed and the original offense has been fully deleted from existence. The only even remote possibility I can think of is that it picked up my odd mouse settings. I used to have a mouse where 1 button would double right click, this was inherent to the mouse and I did not add this feature. So instead of spam clicking while doing agility I used that double button to save myself from RSI. I don't know how they would even pick up the fact that I did that though. Listening to more of the video I might have been hit with the sleeper account. I quit when EOC happened and came back like 4 years later to play OSRS. I got banned about 1 week after buying membership for my account and quit again for like 2+ years

14:20 A concerning % of my fellow mods over at Star Miners have caught false bans - repeatedly, even - presumably due to this playstyle/behavior issue. Note: I'm specifically referring to veteran scouts and mods that I consider to be trustworthy.

It can also be the incompetence of their own system. I relocated internationally and my account was banned very shortly after. When i contacted support they explained that my account was not correctly linked to a jagex account (i had created it for RS3 via steam). Now this isnt a fault of mine, so they attempted to restore it to me, but were actually unable to solve it for 9 damn months. I was not compensated for lost membership. I was eventually able to recover it, but really....how does it take months?! I work in IT, the only explaination is that this was of no priority at all for them

I got banned for RWT. It was my UIM so couldn't RWT items. I believe it was because I played my account in France on a french router (French IP address). Moral of the story, don't play runescape on holiday.

My account was fine as F2P for over 3 months, until I decided to pay for membership and then suddenly I was "botting". Welp, there goes my money. At least it was only a 1 month subscription...

I got Falsely banned in September of 2023 for 24 hours. I have since then quit, due to my appeal being denied and in fear of the next time beng permanently.

Larger amounts of GP is definitely a risk for getting falsely banned. Like 1-2 years ago i transfered gp from my skiller to my staker, made a good few amount of GP. Send it back to my skiller. Next day i did wanna stake again, traded it over again. Lost it all. Did quit for like a week, came back and tried logging in my staker and it said i got banned for RWT! No VPNs or anything used, both accounts on my same network. I cannot appeal the ban, so my staker has been lost. Never touched OSRS again after that. 😔

Today I raided with an Ironman. A main got a purple and we split 20mil each and gave the iron mans main a split. Then a few minutes later his main was 7 day temp banned for rwt. False bans definitely exist.
