Runescape's Greatest Lie: Zaros, Necromancy, The Elder Gods And Erebus.

For the board behind Einstein Shrek: Do the music notes actually mean anything? Musical notes usually are assigned some letter designator (such as for example A, A minor, etc), so if anyone here has musical knowledge, I wonder if they spell anything out? Or if they were played, what is the sounds they produce? Depends of course on the instrument, but I am somewhat curious if when played the sound matches with the start of any Runescape theme we usually hear connected to an entity of some sort. In addition, the symbol below the notes that looks like a triangle with a circle in the middle sort of looks like it would fit right in with one of the Elder God symbols, though it doesn't match any of the known ones.

Love it! Before the battle of the monolith I never linked zaros and Xau-tak. Now I see links between Amby's black hole mechanic and the Zaros godsword special attack Black Hole. Identical. The Zarosian symbol (4 spokes in an octagon) and the Moksha device ((4 chains, and the eight spikes from the Skekslan meaning dead-birth) are somewhat similar. Zaros' outfit has a closed mouth, and if there aren't black hands on his shoulders they look like tendrils or tentacles.

I figure that Zaros plays the part of necessary evil Zaros is trying to find a way by any means necessary to stop Elder Gods from pressing the reset button/creating a singularity point. If these new forces from Erebus are the antithesis to Elder Gods, his plan could be to erase both by clashing them against each other, ending the universe cycle

Amazing video, the runescape lore is pretty built up after all these years.

You made some interesting points about Zaros and his “offering”. I often assumed the offering in question was Mah’s core, but it never really made sense why he’d give it up as quickly as he got his hands on it. This offering of multitudes of souls could be the reason he may have had to build an empire and orchestrate his own demise. What better way to ensure that Zaros gets many souls for offering to Erebus than a large scale massacre of his own followers? I still don’t know about his whole resurrection, though. I feel his he went straight to Erebus when Ol’ Zam rammed the staff up his bum, and either had to offer the souls he accumulated as a sacrifice to return to life….Or upheld some kind of bargain. We know Zaros has been in contact with Erebus long before his empire when he encountered something in the Shadow Breach on Freneskae. But this is all speculation.

Do we know what the suffix / title / word, -Ma and -Da means? Regarding Vos-Da, Xau-Ma, and Tak-Ma? I was getting a gendered vibe from those, but I have no idea.

If Zaros had any allegiance to Vos, why would he be poisoning Erebus with human souls? The fact that the Zarosian use of Erebus as an afterlife is likened to contaminating a water source with sewage outright states that it is something undesirable to the entities that inhabit Erebus, so why would Vos want human souls. I find it much more likely that this is just one more element of Zaros' grand plan, which he, in in own internal monologue recorded by the memoriam crystals, has stated to be for mortals to inherit the world.

Also, about the current Elders…Their actions of creating, nurturing and resetting an entire universe in perpetuity doesn’t seem very….creator like. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say they’re running away from something. Erebus, most likely. I wonder if the Elders were some kind of “tribe” or anomaly originally from Erebus, as there were definitely more of them. Judging by their dwindling numbers, they either died because of incompatibility with shadow anima/“something else” or tried to escape from the rulers of Erebus. The resetting of the universe could be their way of cleansing or cleaning out something undesirable to their survival. Them being refugees also explains why they placed their perfect worlds at a greater distance from the source of the “shadow” emanating from the lower planes. They are also AFRAJD of mortal life, suggesting they want a universe with only the five of them. Mah’s death must have been very unexpected, possibly saying “there’s no escape from Erebus”. Causing Jas to take extreme measures. We seriously need more quests and less stupid combat/skill reworks. I’ll be in my 40s by the time we have answers at this rate.

You know, it never made sense that a mortal sorcerer could hide the staff from the eyes of Zaros even if he received the blessings of Saradomin who at the time was much weaker than the current version. But if he took the blow on purpose and cursed all those people to hide the lead, it makes a lot more sense.

You're not 100% right about Zaros lying to us. There actually ARE souls in Erebus, but you have to bare in mind we enter Erebus from its FURTHEST point, like Freneskae in our world being the oldest plane, we enter Erebus in its oldest area. If we entered from the Monolith, it's other furthest point we could likely see the more "modern" parts of Erebus. Death describes "an empire that extends beyond death" so likely there is a place somewhere in Erebus where mortal souls actually do go. Scions of Erebus is written from the POV of a bitter exile that was cast out of its realm. Baring in mind the Chthonians are basically Shadow Cacklers who have lost their power source, literal parasites that were "cast out" so if something cast them out, there is likely someone making the rules. And or protecting something, probably the mortal souls who Zaros guides to Erebus with Erebal Elements. You should also bare in mind that Zarosians (like myself) gain a "shadow soul" of sorts, nothing like our World Guardian soul, but a primitive version of it. This is likely done so that our souls can exist in Erebus, since Death says a soul goes where it believes it will go. When it says "When sewage pollutes the reservoir, does it become the place for sewage to be stored?" it is literally referencing that mortal souls are coming to Erebus and making it their home, which is more than likely why the Abyssal Lords were thrown out. I'd love to discuss this with you sometime, there's a lot more to this story that so many people miss.

to bad this lore doesn't matter anymore. since the lore, and most of these characters got thrown into a dumpster by junior jmods who were given the keys to rewrite the entire story, and replace all the gods with their perfect mary sue daughter clones who can do no wrong, and pull power, and mcguffins clean out of their snatch. That is the current state of the runescape lore.
