I’ve been tying my running shoes like that for the last 35-40 years. Trained and ran 12 marathons and never a problem!
@thepsychologist8159

What I will say is. 1. I've never had these issues with my heels slipping or the other problems stated, because I've always had my shoes professionally fitted, 2. I have NEVER done up my shoe laces this way, just the standard way I was taught when I was a wee nipper and 3. Personally, I deliberately DON'T thread my shoe laces at the top eyelet because I prefer free motion from the step-off, can't stand my heels being buried in the back of my shoes. But on a side-note, the presenter is cute.

My Nike running shoes kept coming off my foot whenever I ran in really fast speeds. So this is really helpful for someone who runs really fast. I get why you wouldn't need this advice. When I'm jogging it fits just right

The runners knot does help a lot, but I wouldn't say it works on every shoe, sometimes the fit of a particular model just doesn't suit your feet 👍🏃

Thank you Coach Morgan for this demo. Your instructions were clear, and simple. I just got a pair of Books in the mail today (never ran in Brooks), and thought they were too small. However, once I did the “heel tap” I had enough space b/w the toe box and my big toe. What a difference these minor iterations make ! 😊

A few years ago a shoe store guy showed me this knot and changed my life. I’ve only ran in either brooks and ASICS since then but it has worked for all the shoes I’ve used. I highly recommend if you can use this knot, try it out even if you don’t think you need it, it might help.

Lace tying tip: Loop one lace around the other and bring it underneath itself, in the start of the knot (ie. don’t cross the laces over each other, as the first step). Then make your loop and tie around it as you normally would. It keeps laces tied like double knotting, but is easy to untie.

RU-vid taught me the runner's knot a couple years back - definitely a game-changer for some shoes that just wouldn't otherwise work! Glad you're putting it out there as many still don't know about it. What's weird to me is that some running shoes out there are still being made without the extra eyelet. Not many, but they still exist!

Also when you tie your shoes cross them twice instead of once before making your loops. When you do it this way you will find that by doing the extra crossover and then pulling tight, the laces won't loosen before you make your bow. If you only cross them once, as most people do and you did in the video, the laces loosen before making your bow.

I haven't had issues with my road shoes but on trails, because my shoe strikes the ground at many various & unpredictable angles I've felt some concerning movement within my shoes. I had recently watched this video & yesterday did hill repeats at a park with a lot of roots, rocks, & unsteady gravel so I gave it a try & it felt great. I felt more stable in my shoes, almost like being in a pair of hiking boots. Thanks Coach Morgan.

Funny enough went online looking for ways to tie my new walking shoes since I actually went and bought a high quality, expensive, pair. Going to be going on a long walking tour in Europe so I want to be comfy and good on my feet. I found I had the same issues with my feet sliding forward as I am walking prior to this upcoming trip and figured I may be tying my shoes incorrectly. Tried the method in the video, since my shoes have the same extra holes, and suddenly my shoes stay where they need to be and my feet are not sliding forward. Great method for anyone walking or running.

on a different subject, if you are having trouble with your shoes coming untied, try changing the way you tie your shoes. The loops should go across your foot (left to right) not up and down (toe to heal). this creates more friction and will help them stay tied.

the most important thing is to free the toes and skirt the ankle moderately tightly to prevent slippage. so the ideal tie is an A or an inverted V shape along the laces.

Runners knot also helps me to have my longer hikes easier. The extra eyelet also has its name of saying heel lock. Even if I don't have a heel lock, I still make the heel lock out of the existing knot. But heck when there are arch supported shoes and I do this. It feels definetly annoying and weird at same time.

On some of my shoes I have caterpy non-tie laces (not affiliated - I found them at the exhibition of the Amsterdam marathon 2 years ago, and bought a pair.. tried them out and went back the same day to buy 3 more pairs for my other shoes) and on others I use the runners knot.. I only get blisters on my toes on the shoes that are "my size" so I usually have to buy a full size bigger than normal, and that's with absolutely every brand and shoe that I've tried so far. edit: if there are any strings attached, the cat will play with them..
