The one thing I think RU-vid got right? We get to see some awesome good people get together and play on machines. I love the interactions of all these folks.

I’m impressed you got dirt the first few buckets. Draglines are a art form, but with time you could orchestrate the operation without a doubt. I haven’t seen one run since back in the 70’s. Brings back memories.

I enjoyed the review and your take on the differences. Also like what you say, “bigger isn’t always better”. I like the common sense approach to how you gauge what machine works best for your company and the jobs you do. It may be a little stronger, definitely louder, but what you have is matched perfectly for your needs. Fuel burn for you and that machine would be higher just because of the jobs you do, I think. It would be impossible to know for sure unless you ran them side by side doing the same job. Thanks for bringing us along as always.

Good vid DP. By the way you where concentrating on that dragline I bet you would be feeling a bit knackered in a few hours. As far as the Hyundai machines go pity they don't have the option to save settings to a USB drive so you could transfer your preferences between machines. Perhaps something the could implement at some stage?

I was thinking a phone app and Bluetooth connection. An App/Bluetooth connection could also allow for additional job site security in the form of kind of two part authorization to start it (Key and App).

Compete with the link belt? For the first 30 feet of reach, you win. For the next 50 (or maybe 70 if he is a good at casting), yours will be under water or moving mats. They compliment each other.

Ran a 220 for a few weeks , against 210. 220 lots more power digging with 5ft digging bucket, flat out 9 hr day , never missed a beat , loading 30 to dump trucks ,I was loading two more trucks per hour , than the 210

The bucket on the 220 was pretty impressive/aggressive looking. I think that would work really well on the clay soil here in NC. That dragline was awesome! You got used to it pretty fast. I bet you’d be able to set grade with that after another 4 hours of playing with it lol Just don’t let Matt start calling you Drag Perfect 🤣 Great video overall. 👍🏻

I was around a few Draglines back in the 70's but never truly appreciated how much skill was involved in operating them, those guy's made it look so effortless. The fuel rate on the 220 really surprised me, I do wonder if the rate changed after your fine tuning? Mike I gotta admit I would watch your video's if you were watching paint dry in real time.....lol Keep up the good work man!!

Definitely interesting seeing the difference in old a new technologies between that 220 and a drag line. Operating the DL full time I'm you ended with pretty good sized bicepts. Nothing like taking a long trip that ends up with some fun before the turn around to head home. The scrapyard I worked for had American dragline cranes with 66 inch and 72 inch magnets on an 80 ft boom. We had one 797 and 3 7220s up until 2008. We had some Link Belt cranes when I started there in the 1970s but they were scrapped shortly after that.

Uncle Orville spent years running a drag line at the Hanford Nuclear site and Columbia River dams. He could throw the bucket side armed and it would just fly. Always keep your boom swinging and your lines moving. My cousin had a friction machine, I always passed on running it.

my dad an uncle had a development co in florida in the early 60's. They spent all their time on draglines digging the canals. I do remember they tested a 3 wheel something I think it was a dozer blade. And 2 or 3 pans. thats what they called them I was 7 so it was all amazing to me.

operating costs and maintenance with the 4 vs 6 are about identical, productivity is higher in yards moved with the 6 cylinder we have found,,,,, we have faster turn around times on maintenance on the Hyundai's due to set up and design, easier access to filters and other maintenance consumables

The adjusted settings seem a lot like what LD18 runs on his 220s. The takeaway is that every machine can benefit from optimization, especially by someone who knows what it CAN do versus what it does out of the box.

I used to see cable log shovels as a young kid in the 70's and even got to ride in a cab when the operator was loading big dog fir. There are three things that the draglines excell at over an excavator: first is the amount of reach they have without having to move around the hole , second , is just how deep do you want that hole to be ? You can cut benches with the hoe , but once the water comes in you're done , the draglines just keep on going, and third is the cool factor , you might get a few guys watching the hoe for a short while , but the draglines will have a crowd of little boys with grey hair and beards standing around mesmerized ! Hell , I still have the Michigan ( Clark ) truck crane that I got for Christmas of 1960 .

The only crane type thing that I ever had a chance to run was in a log yard and the machine was about a year from the scrap pile. Have always wanted to run a dragline and you answered some of my questions on how to do it. I have been on a large walking dragline in Canada and Mike, you seemed to have the touch. The swing there seemed a bit slow also but the engineer we were with said that the tip of the boom was moving at 60mph. DP definitely has the bug. The old iron will be a coming. I was born in Brandon's end of the state and moved from Indiana/Michigan to northern Kalifornia almost five decades ago. Kinda nice to watch DP, Clint, and Brandon. I will have to say that I cringe at some of the things that you do there that would land me in jail out here. We have far too many agencies with far too many rules especially where it involves water and riparian habitat.

I watched my homeboy Dale running a dragline at an antique get-together once and he didn’t like the bite on the bucket so he re-positioned the chain mount on the bucket. Couldn’t tell you what exactly they were since I was prekindergarten at the time. Looking forward to seeing your experience if you make the plunge for some older varieties of equipment. I’ve probably said before but my dad had a dozer, crane with dragline and cable backhoe attachments and a earth mover with the front cutting edge into the bucket and rear paddles to empty. Wishing you and your family the best.

Ha! talk about bird nesting the wire on a drag line, when i was a kid my dad had a Bucyrus Erie think it was a 30. I got on that thing and in 5 minutes had the wire all haired up, took em' 2 days to cut it out. Dad never let me get on that thing again. The only thing wire operated he would let me run was the D7

If you hang around too many more youtubers with big old machines, you'll need to add an axle to the Mack and the low boy trailer. That drag line is really cool. From the side lines the 220 seems more suited to rock and demo than the finer touch jobs. Like placing big rocks or bigger blocks on retaining walls or using that extra weight to knock stuff down. Or just hogging dirt into trucks. Too many cool toys and not enough time to play with them all.
@alpharomeo15
@alpharomeo15 Год назад
When those machines were new, I was there, as a young man, whenever we saw one setup, watching in amazement, as the operators would literally sling those huge buckets way out beyond the tip of the boom and haul back huge loads of dirt in seconds while digging out canals and retention ponds and even whole subdivisions dredged up from the swamps of Louisiana! By end of the day we'd have a 40 to 50 foot new mountain range to explore!👏🏽 👍🏼☺ So if you got's a bad a case of Dragline Possession... I totally understands!☺

With your settings, the amount of fuel it burns per hour will probably be higher. But, the work gets done faster so less hours needed for the same amount of work. But that's probably why it looks like this bigger engine didn't use as much more fuel as you thought it would.
