In the fall of 2021, the Cross Country team at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Maryland, hoped that they had a team that could win a state championship. But there was a problem: one of their top runners, junior Oliver Ferber, felt that he could not run because the championship fell on a Saturday, the Jewish sabbath. Forced to choose between his team and his faith, Oliver took a stand…and then pushed for a change.

Lol ESPN, you can’t just plug “Running on Faith” into Google translate. Can you not find a single Hebrew speaker in Connecticut to translate the phrase for you?

Running on Faith- without the pun component- עובד על אמונה Running- as in functioning,- עובד. With the pun component- Which doesn't actuallt work in Hebrew. רץ על אמונה- Litteral runing. Or maybe רץ באמונה- in this case, on is more At.

As someone who observes the Sabbath and has forgone sporting events for Sabbath day observance I can appreciate this kid’s situations. But I had to laugh when the race was moved to Sunday. Wonder how many Christian kids didn’t run.

Way not? Jews arw nor Christians. And while Christians love to appropeat Jewish Culture and defile it, Jews don't try to interact with Chriatianity. And why was it ok that it was *obvious* that the guy had to choose between his faith and participating... And apparantly, in your opinion, a mere mentioning of A Jewish person not having to give up on their faith on a supposed Christian time, is *in bad taste.*

The meet directors didn't really solve a problem. They actually created a greater one by moving the meet to the Lord's Day for Christians. Great solution!
