We were on a 7 week camping trip in Idaho in 2020. While in Stanley.... in the middle of June.... we had about 6 inches of snow over 2 days. That is one long snow season!! Warm wishes from the middle of California!
You guys may want to get or rig a more complex pulley system to move stuff up and down from the loft. By connecting more pulleys into a system you can dramaticly reduce the amount of force you need to lift an object. It would be easier for the two of you and safer for your tools.
Hi, Good to see you are back and rejuvenated and excited about getting ready for your first Winter in your new home (sheltering you & your camper). The Big door will make difference, so would a pot belly fire place in the barn. Enjoy Winter, look forward to your episodes.
Perhaps you could glue the cutoffs of the insulation and attach it to the frame of the door to ease some of the thermal bridging - the door doesn't go all the way up so clearance may not be an issue. Best content, checking in every week has been the best.
Watching every one of your videos again to give them all a thumbs up. I have you guys in a separate window so I can watch any old time. I've missed a few the first time. Courtney is a perfect partner and keeps Ryan from serious harm. Both of you are so talented.
Nice work on the door 🚪. Looking forward to seeing the jeep roll with the tracks on it in the snow. You two have some mad skills. Between the two of you I'm quite certain there is nothing you cannot accomplish. Plus yall have a blast doing it which is entertaining for all us viewers. Thanks
Cool idea for a garage door, but wow, you have a lot of faith on those hinge screws at the top. I would love to see you design a backup solution to hold the door should those screws fail. 🙂
Milton Berle once said " If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door" must mean more new and fun opportunities for you both. Get that door up and get warm!!!
You guys are great together. Sharing all the work load as well as fun. You showed us how respect and trust work in a partnership. More power to you both. 😁✌️
Loving following your build. Instead of using pulleys a safer route might be weld a couple d-rings to tie the door off to your excavator bucket and lift it with the excavator bucket and then kept the d-rings off when you're done stay safe and thanks for the great content 😎👊
Dunno what it is about the first snow fall that tickles everyone including me self 😆 no matter where we are all from☺. Like the way your barniminium door is shaping up to be. Can't wait to see the completion & view the operational foldind process! 👏👍🇺🇸
I installed my 12' X 16' shop door by myself. (I'm an old guy so no pretty helpers on that build!) I mounted a cheap 12 volt ATV winch on the header and raised all of the panels with it.. My shop doors now are raised and lowered by Harbor Freight 440 lb 120 volt winches rather than $commercial$ garage door openers. But, I did install the normal garage door spring system to counter balance the weight of the door so the winch only has to lift about 100 lbs. Those HF winches have been working great for 15 years now. 2 BIG shop doors. I still think you could weld up,a simple bird cage type freight elevator and install two garage door roller tracks vertical next to the apartment wall. And use an electric winch to raise it up and down using the tracks and rollers to keep it in place. Would sure make getting all the fixtures and parts for the apartment build up there easier. I have a simple safety brake design that would be easy to build in case the winch line ever broke. If you're interested. Id be happen to explain it. Then after the build is done you could easily move or remove the freight elevator
Those are excellent ideas! An elevator to upstairs would be awesome. I really like your idea of adding a manual brake to the cable so that if the winch fails the door can not fall down.
From one transplanted California kid to another: Enjoy the newness of the snow now, cause you'll be cussing it for the rest of your life! Good work guys! Keep it up!
I never thought about a hanger door for a pole barn. It makes so much sense though because it would also give some cover from the weather when opened. That design is really cool and I can see the vision clearly. So stoked for y'all!
So glad that you two are healthy and doing awesome in this weird times of Covid and what not. Keep up the good work. Your Earthroamer is boss! And I’m a Jeep guy so you know your XJ is big boy bossanova!
Those kind of doors work great! I did that on my shed. Only thing I would redo on it would be make the lower section shorter and the upper section longer. Reason being, when fully opened it will give a good slope for runoff when it snows or rains.
You two are a fantastic tonic for the rest of us. Your outlook, your smiles, but most of all your enthusiasm for life are so infectious!! Thanks for helping keep us sane in these wierd times.
I actually really like you guys I watch you all the time I’m always excited to see your new videos for California kids you guys are cool. I even stopped watching Trent and Ali which I love them just as much but I think I’m starting to love you guys more
Door looking sharp. Ditto on the other comments- what about using the RV'S winch and welding some d-rings to the top of the door? Although... that pulley content makes for a few hundred extra comments 😂
I like barn doors but this aeroplane-hanger type door is a great idea, I love it! I'm wondering if you're going to design an automatic door opener to go with it...necessity is the mother of all inventions👍
I am actually in the planning phase for one of these for my pole barn shop. Great timing. I am worried about the forces of the door pulling the wall down when lifted, so I decided to make a four or five panel accordion door. My vertical posts are not as strong as yours, and not as high, I am only 20’. Your lift mechanism is of great interest to me.
Stay tuned for next episode of Ambition Strikes. I don't wanna wait!! I want the episode now!😭😭LOL I love following your build. Beats the heck out of tv.
you would be suprised what a decent wood stove will do to heat a space like that.. aven a double drum boiler type will do a LOT to heat that space.. maybe even cook you out of it even with no insulation until temps drop to the negatives. another decent heat source I have seen some use to heat their shops are the chinese diesel heaters.. they run off 12v, so could easily be powered by a spare car battery, and charged via solar.. and they sip fuel... depending on load, they burn about 1 gallon over 8hours. nice dry air.
Seeing how often you use pulleys, I would suggest adding another pully, to double the lifting capacity (or reducing the power required to lift) and a rope tie down similar to what is used on yachts, so you can leave something hanging at desired height. And I would consider adding another rope with pulleys either in the middle or the other side of the door. Maybe just design it so that it works also as a door lifting feature (for that however I would do at least a 3 time power reduction with pulleys).
Been watching you guys for awhile now and I look forward to watching in the future. Watching your door project I’m sure your aware but moisture has a tendency to build up in square tube and it will freeze and split the square tube open. Each piece should have weep holes to allow moisture to escape. Great project you two are so innovative.
The most amazing talented ,hardworking and powerful interms of doing their hard projects ..youtuber bvlogger couple i love watching everytime they post new video.God bless🙏🙏👍👍👍😍
❤ We loved Riley in the polka dot helmet-very stylish. Almost feel it calls for a race horse jockey jersey. 🙂 Might want to consider picking up some Milwaukee 12V heated vests or any other brand. Total game changer when you really need it! Love how you did everything tool wise with keeping simple and making it happen. Well done to the both of you!!! Mark ( & Teresa)
