In this video I run an electrical service drop to my jointer. I do not power the jointer up as the video concentrates on the strain relief aspect of dropping power to a machine, and how to do all of this on a tin ceiling. There is another video related to this one where I convert the jointer to accept a service drop; How-To Configure a Jointer for Overhead Electric Service - • How-To Configure a Joi...

Great job Mojo! I really like overhead electrical service because it frees-up the floors for carts and gets rid of trip hazards. Cant wait to see all of the machines hooked up!

One down, two to go, but then I believe I have like six more machines to supply power to! I can probably run most of those machines on the wall, but I may do an Island? At any rate, I need to keep all floors clear 🤔

That worked out beautifully! That will keep your floors clear for the parts carts. It really make a lot of sense!

Thanks Robert! I may need to do the same on the other side as well, but the end result like you mentioned, will be a cord-free floor! 😊

Hi Mojo, great video and well explained,I read up what a Chinese finger trap meant and according to Wiki it's used to create a finger trap if you want to play a practical joke on kids

Thanks Larry! Yea, the sell Chinese finger traps at the joke store. We used to trick people with them when we were kids. They were made of bamboo strips braided into a tube, and you put your fingers in both ends. Then, the harder you pull, the tighter it would grip. You had to push them in to get them off, but people tend to want to pull to get it off.

I cant wait to see the Shelix cutterhead swap-out, then the service drop for that machine. Will you have a fully functional shop at that point?

I really can't wait for that myself! It really sucks not having a planer! I need to do the Delta cyclone upgrade so that I will have dust collection before I can use it - or run the actual ductwork 😉

I'm really interested in seeing how the dust collection ducts are installed. Will you use magnets to hold it up temporarily? It will look so industrial out there when that is done 😉

I will be using a combination of things. I'll lay it out with string, and hopefully be able to get the anchor eyes in place before starting, which will hold-up the loose ends. Hopefully I don't need too many parts as they are insanely expensive these days! I agree about the "industrial" look, and like that as well 😊

I had to put your video at x1.25 speed because it sounded as if it was a slow speed.

For people with non-metal ceilings, they could attach a tool balancer. In fact, a tool balancer may be the better option for metal ceilings as well, just more expensive than magnets - although with magnets if it gets knocked down you have to set up a ladder and put it back up. A tool balancer at say 25lbs (50lbs may be too much), would allow the wire to be pulled down if a lot of force was applied, like your board running into it as you say, but then as soon as the force stops, the balancer will retract right back up. If you're not familiar, a tool balance is like a giant version of an ID tag retractable leash / key leash.

Thank TheSkiingJeep! That would not work on a tin ceiling at all, unless you fasten it thru the tin to the structure (it would pull right out of the tin, or pull the tin down!), but if you were going to do that, you could just use the strain relief as is done in most cases. The problem with tin is there are large areas where you don’t want to add weight or stress. The tool balancers are an interesting tool though. I’ll keep that in mind as I build the shop 😊
