Runny POOP? Getting to the Bottom of Kitten Diarrhea

If there's one issue that seems to effect all kittens at one time or another, it's diarrhea. There are many factors that can cause runny poops, from parasites to switching foods to lack of stomach enzymes, and figuring out what exactly is causing diarrhea often requires a trip to the vet. Sometimes this issue clears up on its own, sometimes medication is required. The bottom line is that kittens who have diarrhea can become malnourished and dehydrated, and it's a serious problem that needs to be addressed quickly.

How ironic is it I was just thinking about Kitten School and was going to click on your channel to see if anything's new. I got the notification on this video 6 minutes after you posted it. I happened to be watching a Flatbush Cats video as your notification came in. I've been thinking about these cats since your first post and all the dirty water that came off one of them due to flea bites. I've never seen anything like that. These cats truly needed help. Out mischievous little boy came from a litter of four that was fund abandoned and turned in to the local shelter. Your theory about their diarrhea makes sense. Obviously you've got the problem under control. We have a common interest/knowledge of classical music. I recognized all your names and knew who Clara was even before you explained it. Thanks for the update. Happy to know this litter is doing well.

Hi there! Yes these babies were a real mess when I first got them, and then the issue with the diarrhea, but they are all doing great now. All five are romping around the house as I write this. Still a little loose poop but not as bad as before. It takes time for their little gastrointestinal tracts to adjust. When I was making the video my friend Isabelle, who is French, came over and she helped me understand how to pronounce Debussy correctly - I actually re-recorded that pice of audio because I had pronounced it wrong! @@KittenSchool I believe it's Day-bu-say, and don't remember exactly how you pronounced it. Your reference to Clara Schumann was what I liked best. Thanks again for taking care of these kitties! My orange tabby is sitting on the desk next to me as I write this.

Hi Caroline, I watched the suggested video regarding helping kittens through bouts of diarrhea and remembered I had seen it before because of the Pumpkin reference, and the can of 100% Pumpkin. I had gotten a big can of it for Poor Punky who subsequently passed, God Bless Her, and because she could eat so little of it, well, I started mixing it in with my breakfast, and I kept buying more -- now I mix my almonds and raisons in a mush of pumpkin. Now with my new kitten, Gloria, who's doing great (just got fixed a few weeks back and on May 1st she'll be a Big 6 Month Kitten, well, she's been cleaning my breakfast bowl, licking up any trace of the pumpkin. I don't have to wash it afterwards, considering how pretty little kittens such as she couldn't possibly have any nasty germs.

Sing Sing was having diarrhea issues and adding canned pumpkin has helped a lot, and he loves the taste!

OMG so glad I found this. My rescued kitten's poop is so watery, sometimes it has greenish color. Can't afford to go to the vet since it's so expensive here in my country. ♥️♥️

Dear Caroline, I guess diarrhoea is always a problem, not only with kittens but also with adult cats. After having used the anti parasite meds we tend to give them fortiflora or other bacteria here in Poland. Your guess was definitely right, mom's milk will always be different than the formula.

Sing Sing (14 years old) was having diarrhea issues awhile back and I took him to the vet for tests, but nothing came up. So I have been giving him canned pumpkin and fortiflora in his food and its' improved a great deal. Sometimes you just have to play around and see what works!

Their names are fun..we have a Beethoven at the shelter I volunteer at. He and 3 siblings and their mom were found in a box in a small town near us. He is a beautiful kitty and a love bug.

My baby Foofy (my pfp) had his first diarrhea, this happened because I gave him canned food whole instead of his usual kibble, I believe it’s because of the transition

I have two 6 month old cats (unsocialised, scared of humans), moved in 4 weeks ago, and one of them has diarrhea now :( fecal test was negative for giardia and parasites. Feeding boiled chicken with some carrot caused the healthy cat's stool to become super firm, bordering on constipation, while the other one still produces cow pats, but less frequently.

I was having 4 kittensbut 3 of them got severe dehydration and diarrhea they was having liquidy yellow poop i tried my hard to help them but 3 of them dies the 4th one became alone now I am seeing those symptoms in my 4th kitten help pleasee😢

Pelease One day old kitten stool was brown then now is so yellow ( flashing yellow 🟡) & not firm .. i hice formula the núm Donat santos yo feed nor take Care of him .. help me please
