Wow, great way for me to sleep with my tablet hitting my face as I watch dudes clean rubber off the runway. Reminded me of winter operations when clearing the runway of snow with the sweeper

Dedicated Runway Rubber Removal Machines seem to perform a lot better than this many-vehicle custom washing of the strip.

Avasol Rubber Removal is used around the globe for major runway maintenance due to its low chemical requirements, biodegradability and a viscosity that allows is to remain on the runway especially grooved runways (unlike another products mentioned in this thread).

If that spray dissolves the rubber adhesion to the runway, what does it do to the rubber on the tyres of the spraying/sweeping vehicle, or the guys boots?

It causes a phenomenon known as viscous hydroplaning, where the aircraft loses adherence with the runway at speeds lower than the normal dynamic hydroplaning speed, and that particular area of the runway only has to be wet, and not flooded.

Is it necessary to remove the rubber from the runway? Does the rubber on the runway reduce friction between the planes undercarriage and the runway?

I have seen someone said , soap water and bleach is used , is this correct, Rubber is very resilient to most chemicals, there may be a better chemical I have heard.

David Webber maybe the plane's tire will slip over when rubber coating build up,after landing and take off for a long time.

One landing of aircraft can paste upto 7 grams of rubber on surface..like lipstick.. the friction coefficient of the surface will go down resulting in skidding of aircrafts especially in rainy season

Aah, the civil engineers. Nice to see the less glorious side of the military, but equally important. The biggest chunk of tax payers dollars goes to the logistics and maintenance support. This removal technique seems pretty effective. Can you share a bit more details, on the cleaning solution properties perhaps? Thanks for sharing.

Per the Stars and bars: Then on May 19th a C-130J flying in for a MEDEVAC mission, slammed into the runway, destroying the right side engines, and damaging the outboard portion of wing. It is a burned loss, AFA had an article this it was salvaged for parts and will be scrapped in place.

The Fire Departments will randomly set an unairworthy plane on fire at a random safe location. Once full blaze, they sound the bells, and they go put it out. The firefighters don't know if it's a test fire, or real. They treat both as if it's real.

American army helmets are now so small they do not do the job required like protecting the head from shrapnel especially now so much of the back neck is now exposed , am I wrong , tell me if I am .

This is more like degreasing or dehydration the runway.For weathers productions to planes to take off and landing.This is more than just picking ups rubbers materials debris.

On 19.5-2013, a C-130 Hercules from 772nd Airlift Squadron, 451st Air Expeditionary Wing stationed at Kandahar Airfield made a hard landing at Forward Operating Base Shank(where this video was shot) in Logar province. Landing didn’t cause any injuries to the crew, caused damage to the aircraft tho, as can be seen from the video. Aircraft was conducting a medical evacuation when the incident occurred.

On May 19 a 37-ton, propeller-driven C-130 coming from Kandahar on a medical evacuation mission slammed hard onto Shank’s runway, smashing its right wing and outboard engine nacelle - similar to the incident depicted above. No one was hurt. The badly damaged plane moulders beside the runway as the Air Force investigates the incident. - found this on medium . Com.
