As always my videos for Halloween continue the tradition of featuring at least 1 Dirty Rat music video. This is one that I’ve had in the back of my mind for a while and finally made reality. As I said in my other Rupert AMV, it was one of my favorite cartoons that ever aired on Nickelodeon and by far the best thing to air on Nick Jr. One of the things that made it stand out from the other shows in that block were the villains. While hardly the greatest assortment of villains you could find in an animated series, they nonetheless helped make the stories more memorable. Personally, I think that Rupert had much better one off villains than the original Ducktales did. With very few exceptions (like Merlock, Dijon and M.E.L.) all they did was drive the story for their episode, and while the same can be said about the Rupert villains to me they were just better at standing right alongside the story as well as being part of it. A good example of this is the evil chalk version of Rupert from Rupert in the Land of Chalk Drawings. He never says anything, he just laughs and yet his mean actions of using chalk to deform other sentient chalk drawings just helped give him a strong personality that left an impact on me when I saw it as a kid. But from what I can tell few would disagree that out of all the villains Billy Blizzard is the coolest both literally and figuratively. Even disregarding that he’s the only Rupert villain to appear twice, his first episode alone solidifies his top dog status. To me, he was just the nastiest character to ever appear in a Nick Jr. Show. While I do like his second episode In retrospect it’s not quite as good as his first appearance. His first episode was about him freezing everybody in the North Pole even Santa Claus, pretty hard to top that. But it’s probably a good thing that he appeared again as it made sure that I had enough footage of him to make this video. I used villains from 28 quality episodes, including at least 8 of my top 12. Besides Rupert in Dreamland and the first Billy Blizzard episode, that would be the second half of the "dirty dozen" (what I call the villains I use for the "dirty rat" parts). Overall I think that this is a very strong entry in my Dirty Rat series and a great tribute to one of my many favorite 90s cartoons.
