Counterparts is one of my favourite Rush albums. Nice to see a deep cut being reacted to. Excellent song! Cut to the Chase is another fave off the album. Cheers
Dave Grohl once asked the infamous question, "When the eff did Rush become cool!?". For me it was Counterparts when I saw a change in the band. They had a handful of soft albums and kinda came back with Bones, but it wasn't until Counterparts that they really rocked again like the old days.
Counterparts was released in 1993, at a time when they were dropping the synthesizers in favour of a more guitar-driven hard rock sound; if you'd like to see a live performance off the album, I'd like to recommend the leadoff track Animate from their 1997 show at Toronto's Molson Amphitheater. Cheers from Toronto! 🎤 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Thanks! Glad you liked it. All three parts sound great on this tune. Impeccable tones! I think of it as trying to understand gender archetypes and how we can overcome/redefine them together with our relationships. Next request is Secret Touch from Vapor trails…R30 Tour is good for live. Rush on!
My wife was a musician (sang lead for a punk bar band in the late 90’s and early 00’s). She has a wide array of musical tastes - but Rush is NOT one of them. Like many, many women back in the day, she could not stand Geddy’s voice. Perhaps understandably, given her musical roots, she’s also put off by the music’s complexity and the band’s virtuosity. It was a running joke for the first two or three decades that the band could actually count the number of women at a show (because there were so few).
