My son passed away in December of last year and this song came to me in a dream, thinking my son was telling me he enjoyed it. Can't listen to it without crying now. My band is going to be learning it soon to honour him. Such a great song. Rest In Peace, Neil 🥁💙
Indeed, I could listen to Manhattan Project, Marathon, Territories, and Middletown Dreams in a row all day long. The bass and drums on these songs is simply sick. The lyrics are top notch and so meaningful. Along with Mystic Rhythms ... that makes Power Windows easily one of my favorite albums.
This song is definitely one of their finest ones. Blew me away the first time i heard it. Still blows me away. Came here after listening to it on the way to work.
First time I heard it live was on the Power Windows tour in Philly in April '86. And thankfully I have a soundboard bootleg of that show. You can find it on RU-vid.
@@9EricCN3 Hello there ! wow great to see a post rock fans in Prog video comments. Great to see the relation between Post and Prog Rock as soundtracks on human mind contemplation.
Truly. Alex just perfectly musically embodied all of the longing Neil put into those words. Go spend some time in the middle of N. America, and you'll understand. There will never be another band quite like Rush.
Reggie, Rushes Music that way its composed is very complex yet Balanced...the stuff that Alex composes is something from the old days of Beethoven, Bach, that era, to play that complex music back in the 70s so good like someone who plays it when they are established, to write music and compose it is Masterclass, he is the best Guitarist of all time....I think hes better then EVH for the sole reason of the complexity of the music written...and I know its hard to compare Guitarist, like Page, EVH, Hendrix, but I think hes a step above...they are all great...my edge goes to Alex.
Alex is so good here. Without seeing, I would have never been able to slightly comprehend what he is doing. So busy on this song. So underrated. Kills it!
The guy is absolutely off the charts talented. I'm 68 and have had many conversations regarding great guitarists with friends over the years. We all talk the usual shit. Then someone mentions Alex, and everyone all together suddenly go..."ahhhh, yes...Lifeson."
One of my absolute favorite songs with Rush. I remember when i first heard this song, it absolute blow me away. And specially the synth melody sling in the middle is something that i can hear a million times over and over. This is one of their best albums together with Signals. Keep drumming in heaven Neil. Thanks for so many incredible moments when i was sad, your drumming and Rush music always kept me going.
Greetings: That is not a "melody...". That is fill. However, Geddy- still rocks it good... As always. Sometimes it is difficult 2 think he never wanted 2 play piano / keyboard / synth. He learned 2 help evolve the band. Fortunately his playing supercedes his voice here. The later years were stressful on him. RIP Neil.
Nearly 40 years of listening to this song and I never realized almost the entire song could be played with just a snare, base drum, hi-hat, ride, and a couple crash cymbals. There’s one single trip around the toms that doesn’t occur till all the way after the 4 minute mark. I wonder if it was a conscious effort by Neil to stay off the toms as much as possible on this song.
How did Signals sound to you at first listen? For me it was life affirming. I was very into music at the time, as a listener and musician, and I counted on my favorite musicians and bands to regenerate my spirit with every new release. Signals did that for me.
The lyrics were amazing. Without Losing It, I would've never read Hemingway and Fitzgerald and Dos Passos. Countdown relit my passion for the space program.
Well me too, that there are dreamers out there, which have to patiently waiting for their dreams coming true, and Neil Peart amazingly knew that ! This song, along with Bravado and Time Stands Still are my contemplation songs. They make my spirit rise again despite failure and setbacks.
There always alot of meaning in there lyrics. The first time I read 2112 in the album had a story.very personal and emotional songs these guys sing. They have been my favorite since 1978..✌👊😎RUSH ON!!!
Still my favourite Rush album. The quality of every aspect of Power Windows in simply unbelievable. It’s all there - perfect running order, amazing songwriting, thought-provoking lyrics, beautiful instrumentation, stellar playing, extraordinary guitar work, a zillion drum sounds by Neil, and Geddy’s vocals on all time high.
Those lyrics depress me terribly but I love this song. I played drums and have always lived in Middletown CT. Music never really worked out for me. My story in song.
To those criticize the vocals. As long as he's on pitch, and isn't using any aid (pitch correction). He was like 60 years old for god sake. This song was written when he was 34. Saying the vocals are terrible is just inaccurate. They're not great, but the song isn't ruined by it.
This one has all the Rush trademarks. Incredible individual mastery of their respective instruments. They're all three on fire here, especially Neil. Multiple changes of pace, jazzy improv part in the middle, Geddy hitting that note one more time. Most of all, that patented Rush groooove is present. Deep in the pocket, all of them. So blessed to be alive when they were performing.
Eric Bolt the best song ever written from the best band of all time. words cannot describe the feelings i get when i hear that song. tears, goosebumps, joy, sadness... all of it!
Can there ever be a better version of this song? I think not. The bit where the keys kick in is beyond words and always will be, 'The middle-aged Madonna, calls her neighbour on the phone...' Sublime. RIP Professor.
No. The answer is really that simple. They are one of the most creative bands, and certainly the most technically proficient band, IMHO, that I've ever heard. They sound like no other, and most people who hear them for the first time can't believe that they are only a 3 piece band. Their music is so ... full ... as one commentator so aptly put it. The sounds they produce and their arrangements are so stunningly complex and the transitions are beautiful and powerful. They are a great, great band and influenced so many others.
A huge track! ... love me some 80s Rush despite how maligned that period is by some. Geddy's voice showing age but still smashing all those notes spot on. And Neil and Alex, stunning as always.
@@sirscroddy, seems you master this subject. I just don't understand how some rock listeners can complain about keyboards in bands. Keyboards and keyboardists always enrich the sound. There are too many possibilities for music when they are on the field.
@@sirscroddy, almost all my chills caused by Rush's music come from keyboard riffs or ambiences. The ones on Marathon, Force Ten, Superconductor, Red Sector A, etc. For my taste, 80's was the most amazing period in Rush's carreer, in the composition aspect.
I never realized this song was so much work! (Incredible song) Gheddy is singing his heart out (on top of everything else he does). Alex is doing some crazy playing (not on the album) I’m not sure how Neil made it through a show, considering this is only just one song! Amazing work ethic.
When this album came out, I hated it. I mean viscerally. I felt betrayed. Then I went to the show and as usual, was blown away. Now, some 30 years later, it's in my top 5. Rush G.O.A.T 🇨🇦
I had seen Rush 5 times before catching this tour. I lost my shit when they played this! They had never played it on any other tours I had caught them on. Power Windows has so many of my favorite Rush songs.
Daniel Hummel I don’t see anyone disagreeing on that statement. Power Windows is just an amazing album... as for the CA Tour.. kind of a terrible set list, honestly
