Ok mate. When did they start? 😁 Way before 74. I admit started as a percussionist in 75. But I knew of Rush earlier. Working man a fave. I learned about temple b
Try to actually fathom, this was all original stuff, not covering a band. Look at the timing, precision, technicality. Modern day bands are a joke. Neil humbly did this in front of thousands than slipped out the back door and road his motor bike to the next town. That's what grounded him. Geddy and Alex stuck around for meet and greets. Some thought however he was arrogant but was not arrogant at all just shy and humble and didn't like the attention for as he said " playing drums with sticks". No one could do what he did with that huge intimidating drum kit. Of course we know he was so much more than that. He was a voracious reader, wrote 5 books and most lyrics of Rush, as Paul Langois from Tragically Hip said he was "Intimidatingly smart, we all looked up to him" And what's crushingly sad is he died of Glioblastoma same as Gord Downie!!!.. just terrible. WATCH THEIR LIVE IN RIO CONCERT!! AWESOME!!
D J everything you said was right on the money. And I agree with you completely. There will never be another band like Rush or another drummer like Neil. He was the best.

Fuckin right on DJ. No band like them before or since. I can't believe he's gone. Fuck me.
I agree with all but your diss on modern day bands. There are plenty of young stupendously talented musicians out there. Off the top of my head, a few bands you should listen to are Toe, Chon and Totorro
Many say he's the greatest drummer ever, but I respectfully disagree - I believe he was the greatest percussionist ever because he didn't limit himself to drums. I also find it a bit ironic that he was called the Professor when he considered himself a student.
Going on RU-vid to watch a rush video can be like a drunk going to a bar. 3 hours will pass- and the drunk is still at the bar..and you’re watching the 5th live different version of la villa Strangatto
Each and every one of us; Rush fan or not has lost one of the most; if not the most prolific percussionist of all time. As well writing the bands lyrics; a timeless lyricist and poet. “Bell tolls for thee.”
RIP Neil Peart. September 12, 1952 - January 7, 2020 (Age 67). He is and always will be the best drummer in the world. Nobody can't even come close to matching his style. The king of the drumming world. I grew up spending countless hours listening to Rush songs on MTV and Stereo Panama radio station from 1984- 1991. He wrote most of Rush song lyrics by adding a unique mix of ancient philosophy, comic books and strong messages that shaped my teenage years. Great nostalgia. Neil Peart you will remain forever closer to the heart of all Rush fans worldwide !
I will always know Neil as the Master of the Drum Kit from a Rock n Roll perspective but in my honest opinion the only drummer who surpasses Neil is Buddy Rich.
I had the pleasure of seeing Neil play live 36 times dating back to 1977! It is Clear to me that EVERY Modern drummer Emulates him to some point. Neil is a true pioneer, and that Emulation is his Legacy!
Even if you're not a drummer La Villa Strangiato is at the bare minimum worthy of some vigorous finger and foot-tapping. Arguably one of the most wonderfully complex and ambitious RUSH compositions. Thank you Neil and RIP!
The audience participation and enthusiasm at this show was phenomenal! Hear them shouting on every snare hit at the beginning...they are louder than the sound system! Rush said they were astounded at the crowd here.
The fans in RIO are amazing. Every time I see them on every live Rush song the sheer enthusiasm brings a smile to my face. One of the best bands of all time with the best fans of all time!
One of the greatest drumming performances ever... And He did this time and time again.. To The Great Stone Face.. Whom I saw at least 5 times.. Hope to see you play this in heaven.. Rest in Peace.
The precision and execution of these three together always leaves me in awe. Learning this song on guitar in my teens was an incredible challenge. Rush set a standard that will never be matched. Neil's passing has left a huge void, but his legacy will continue to inspire present and future generations. RIP Professor.
This tune evokes alot of emotion, the whole Hemispheres album blows my mind. I've heard interviews with Geddy and he mentions how much of a challenge recording the whole album was because of the complexity of the music.
the day I heard that Rush would no longer perform live I was so shocked and upset that I couldn't talk for days.Thank you for 45 of wonderful music gentlemen
Are you reading 'Ghostrider: Travels on the Healing Road'? A very inspirational book that helped with my mourning and verified how amazing riding motorcycles can be. Truly sad we lost a great human being. Rest in peace!
We must all return this garment we borrowed back to earth but our spirit never dies right now i can here Neil bangin away l don’t want to work i just want to bang on the drum all day Thanks Neil for the pleasure of seeing you and Getty and Alex 3 times. Condolences to wife and children and of course to Alex and Getty.
Simply put the greatest band of all time. My admiration for Neil Peart is beyond imagine, rip old friend enjoy your reunion with wife and daughter in everlasting happiness
One thing to cover a drummer another thing to write and orchestrate this music like Sire Peart. That's his greatness to me is to feel, organize and play these rhythms.
I saw a recent interview with one of the producers of a live album - I think it was Exit Stage Left - talking about Alex and Geddy wanting to do overdubs - not so much for mistakes but to maximize the sonic quality. As he is discussing it the interviewer asks about the drum parts. Producer says - why would we overdub that - Neil never makes a mistake.
how to do even think about writing a piece of music like this? this is Genius.... the thought its self is like writing a piece of Mozart.....there is no band Like RUSH and we all know Neil writes Lyrics and Books and id like to know what his Brain is thinking sometimes.....WOW
No offense to all the great drummers out there, but Neil was just simply on another level. So smooth playing the hardest drum riffs on a regular basis night in and out. A damn master of control and power...I mean, it's just outstanding. Thank you Neil.
Rest in peace Neil. I can't believe you are gone. I will always remember my days after school in my bedroom on my drum kit with my headphones on playing to la villa strangiato and wishing my drum kit was bigger.
rush songs always beckons me to listen ,for the messages in the songs are ahead of their time ; there is nothing tantamount to this group. Now Neil you have exited from one realm and now will enter another . well done while you were hear Neil " thanks for stopping by , it was an amazing and absolute master performance. Now rip the cosmos in half , they have been waiting........
This song is so very deep and heady. No other band could write songs so excellent. A true once in a lifetime trio that will go down in the history books as untouchable. 🌹✌🙏😌
I agree their songs are deep and heady, but I can't agree that no other band can write songs so excellent. That's not a very well thought out or accurate statement. Ever listened to Pink Floyd's entire catalog? I don't just mean their most popular stuff like Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. From 1967 to 1983 they released 13 albums with the original line up, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason. Plus a few more after Roger left the band. If you listen to all their albums and still don't agree they are at least as brilliant as Rush, there's something wrong. Ok, next, Led Zeppelin. Ummm....yeah.
oh my God you boys are so missed! R i p Neil Peart we'll Always Love You! You boys for poetry in motion Angels word on a frequency! Can't wait to listen to you the afterlife! Going to be a hell of a show! You all have beautiful hearts God bless wwg1wga! Goodbye my friends.
Such a talented musician. You gave the world your talent and shared your love spirit and life of music. Happy to see Neil take the time after all those years of touring to explore the person he is just not the world famous drummer. To often people only focus on what you do rather than who you are. Enjoy being able to be yourself without the nonsense of the fanfare!!! Love and Respect
1 of the best 3 musicians ever to grace the stage! Your fans will definitely miss your presence Neil! May peace and comfort come to the Peart family, and Neil's friends during this difficult time.
Such an amazing performance... Neil and Geddy get most of the accolades, and rightly so, but I've seen Rush four times and every single time Alex was the one that stood out
