"How volatile is C4?" Barely at all actually. You can drop it, run it over with a vehicle, shoot it, throw it in a fire, and it won't go off. It's extremely hard to trigger without a detonator. Which is what makes it attractive for military applications; it can be carried around with minimal risk of an unlucky shot detonating it in somebody's pack and taking out a whole squad.
@DaemonKeido

Hell you can EAT and SHIT it out again and it's not gonna go off
@farlonmuentes6004

yeah, i was so confused when this movie came out like c4 doesn't go off easily like that because if it was, military won't use it at all because that's a huge hazard if it can just go off if a bullet hits it.
@dementare
@dementare 2 года назад
To defend the movie in this case, which normally doesn't matter cause in movie... "Bullet Make Car go BOOM", however, that C4 being already rigged up... increases the odds of a bullet cause some form of electrical charge in the current detonating system... I.E. causes sparks/arcs/shorts in the system, etc.

Jackie Chan said the scene when his character first meets Chris Tucker's character was very similar to the first time the actors met in real life at the offices of the William Morris Agency. Chan said Tucker was talking so fast that after the meeting ended, Chan told his manager, "I don't understand any of the words coming out of his mouth!" - a line that was used in the film. If you two decide to do more Jackie Chan movies i'd like to recommend "Rumble in The Bronx". (1995)

When Jackie Chan describes how he would determine the "safety" of stunts was for example measure the gap between two rooftops and than draw it on the floor and see if he could jump that far than go shoot it... He represents an era that will not likely come back around. The environment in HK now is so tightly restricted by Beijing it is now just a memory. That and the steep decline of Peking Opera schools, probably for the better in most cases, but that's where the best action performers of the 80s and 90s came out of, including Jackie Chan.
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 года назад
31:30 To that point, Jackie had already demonstrated to the filmmakers how he was gonna climb a tree in this movie. But then on the day of the shoot, he still had to wait 5 hours just so the safety people could get set up for the stunt. By contrast in his old Hong Kong films, sometimes they'd sleep on the set for several nights so that the time spent on shooting action scenes each day can be maximized.
@Cheepchipsable
@Cheepchipsable Год назад
Yes, they should watch some of the old school martial arts film, and in the bloopers someone will do a flying kick of a first floor staircase and land on their head, then everyone bursts out laughing along with the guy who messed up the take.
@talkshow69

Well I'll give props to Hollywood for wanting the actors to be safe, but all that effort would be rewarded if the actors actually did their own stunts without much use for doubles or frequent cuts. There's a reason Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise are popular. Not only do they do their own stunts, but they have the utmost respect for their stunt crews and other safety people.
@jp3813
@jp3813 6 месяцев назад
@@talkshow69 In Hollywood, it's more about the insurance companies trying to minimize their costs. The likes of Reeves & Cruise are given lots of creative control b/c of their box office success as long as they still adhere to safety policies. By contrast, Jackie had to speak w/ Will Smith just to convince the studio to extend the shooting days for fight scenes in The Karate Kid remake. The climax of Drunken Master 2 alone took four months to shoot, which the Hong Kong studio gave JC total control over. In a behind-the-scenes interview w/ Brett Ratner for Rush Hour 2, he said that he always limited Jackie's time to choreograph action sequences b/c "Americans don't like long fight scenes". Mind you, he made that claim after The Matrix & Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon already proved him wrong.

In real life a lot of bombs do have color wires. Especially professionally done bombs and not back ally junk bombs. They do it to not confuse themselves when arming it, one wrong connection and BOOM you lost your limbs. Also, any remote or detonation system has to be wired as well and often times they are modular. So in order to properly put together bomb components the wiring system has to be legible. Also tags would help, but they aren't often used. We also have to remember most bombs never get diffused so the makers of them don't ever consider going through the extra effort to make all the wires black and using tags only to remove them. It's just adds more work and more danger for something that won't likely happen. That said, not EVERY bomb is color coded but most of them are. They also aren't standardized, but specialist learn the standards of different groups or organizations. Plus their are broader standards that seem to be a bit more universal such as black usually being ground.

He is such a master at his craft, it's not easy to be on point with your choreography, every kick and punch has to be perfect for the big screen. Chris does the same but with comedy, it's not easy being funny with tons of hot camera's surrounding you in a room full of strangers. Yes and no to be honest in regards to the wire colors. The cables are typically manufactured with different color wires within a single sheath. I think Hollywood tends to overdramatize though, such as at 25:10, where it is a Red, Grean, Blue wires connecting to a heat shrink tubing. Anyway, it is more convenient and cheaper to get a cable with multiple wires rather connect individual wires. A good example of this would be a standard ethernet cable. The ends are typically clear so if you look closely at it, the cable has 8 wires, with green, blue, orange, and brown as there colors with the other four cables as white striped alternates...

Thank you Simone and George that was a lot of fun :) Im a long time fan of Jackie Chan and its good to hear others marveling at his skill and commitment -- on the latter, I always think of Legend of the Drunken Master (aka Drunken Master 2) where he falls full length onto red hot coals and scrambles out on his hands and knees - resulting in terrible burns to his hands. Talk about suffering for your art. Anyway, thanks for this feel good reaction, you two keep being you -- and we, the interweb horde will keep enjoying your content! Cheers

WHO AM I is one of my fave Jackie Chan movies and the slide down the side of the angled skyscraper is great, the bloopers at the end when he almost rolled of the edge of the building was crazy. He's amazing, love all his work from Hong Kong to his American made movies...

My wife is from the Philippines and sometimes people will speak in Spanish to her thinking she's Spanish. Other times they assume she speaks no english and call her everything from Chinese to Vietnamese to Japanese. People don't realize in the Philippines, Engish is taught in school as their secondary language. Maybe some aren't perfect with it, but they know more then most people who come from other countries who know no english or very little.

I remember seeing an interview with Jackie Chan, probably for one of the “Rush Hour” sequels, where he must have been having a bad day ‘cuz he kind of went off in a not-entirely-jokey way about how he hurts all the time now ‘cuz he got banged up so much over the years. I mean, dedication is great and all but I hope he doesn’t hurt all the time. ☹️

Yes you should definitely watch some more Jackie Chan movies. Most of my favorite movies he has done are the ones from the 70-90s. There is Dunken Master, Project A, Armor of God, First Strike, Police Story, City Hunter, Super Cop, Twin Dragon, Rumble in the Bronx, The Legend of the Drunken Master, Accidental Spy, Shanghai Noon, The Tuxedo, The Spy Nextdoor, The Medallion. There's a few more but it's hard to think of them at like 5 or 6 in the morning.

The building slide stunt is from the HK Movie "Who am I?" it is from 1998. But the best films from Jackie Chan are the Drunken Masters Series and Armour of God and Armour of God II: Operation Condor. Jackie Chan is definitely a own category of movies. Highly recommended

In my mind, Rush Hour is among THE BEST buddy cop/action-comedy movie franchises in history, right alongside Lethal Weapon. They did a FANTASTIC job pairing Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan together as Detective Lee and Detective Carter.

It’s funny you said the fight scenes are like a dance. Jackie Chan said classic American musicals influence the way he choreographs his fight scenes. Everything has a beat.

The movie you mentioned at the end where Jackie Chan dangles from a helicopter ladder was the movie Supercop from 1992. The Chinese title for that movie I think was Police Story 3.

Project A 1&2, Police Story 1&2, Rumble In the Bronx, Mr. Nice Guy, Gorgeous, First Strike. The list is endless. His movies are awesome and sometimes very strange. When I was young I watched every Jackie Chan film I could get my hands on. Typically a dubbed version so who knows how close to the original plot it was, but his action sequences are legend. I read his autobiography around 10 or 11 years old. He had one hell of a life. And has suffered about every physical injury in the book. As regards the Rush Hour series I’ve heard Jackie was always there early and ready to go and Chris Tucker rolled in late every day and worked on his own time. It’s amazing watching 90’s movies in today’s world and like every other line would never be used in a movie today.
