You guys have to remember this movie came out 20 years ago. All these jokes were fresh. If you are watching this movie for the first time today you have seen all these tropes in every movie since then. It was a good movie when it came out

Summer of 2001, for a lot of us, nobody was going to miss this one. The biggest sequel for Jackie in terms of box office and he's made so many sequels in his career. Tucker's first-ever sequel, although we wanted him play Smokey again in the Friday franchise, lucked out with top billing and a $20 mil payday. Everything in this one is magnificent. Huge step up from the original. Chan & Tucker continuously pushing along what they each do best, keeping up the energy. Chris Tucker was always known for the MJ impressions. But as RH2 was about to hit, he did became good friends with Michael Jackson. They co-starred with Michael Madsen, the late Billy Drago and Marlon Brando in the video for the song, "You Rock My World". One of Jackie's first American films was partly filmed in NYC, "The Protector" (1985). Jackie was excited to return to NYC for Rush Hour 3 and had a lot of ideas for what he wanted to do at the time. But then 9/11 went down, changed things briefly in Hollywood and Jackie (believe it or not) was also going to do a movie with the working title "Nosebleed", that was coincidently about the twin towers and a terrorist plot. But anyway, RH2 as an blockbuster and another favorite of the Buddy cop genre was un-freaking-stoppable.

Back in the day, not all movies were meant to be franchises. So if one got a sequel, it was because people loved it, and in the sequel, they would just touch on everything that happened in the first. It was a better, simpler time. Now no movie can be made without planning out 30 other movies.
