OHMYGOD You went to Din Tai Fung without even realizing it?!?!?!?! That is by far the best Soup Dumpling restaurant in the world!!! There are locations throughout Asia, and one in L.A.... so jealous!

Im new to your channel and quickly realized I needed to start at the beginning, but did watch several of your newest videos before that. You have changed so much. Accents are gone, and your demeanor on camera is so much more polished. Still, I love that you vlogged from day one. I would love you to create a video(s) explaining how you first decided to do this, how it changed from one year to four, how you financed it, and anything else that would be helpful to dreamers.

I found this channel in the last few months & I’m just starting to watch some of their first videos! It is so interesting to me how Kara has seemed to have the same accent mostly across the board (with exception here and there or specific words!) but throughout their videos Nate’s accent has gotten less southern & more universal in a sense! Watching them in backwards order so to speak I’ve heard both their accents show after thinking they didn’t have as strong of a TN accent originally. Love the videos of course even the early ones are great!! 😌

Din Tai Fung is a highly rated dumpling chain and is very popular and recommended for dumplings, but it's not an authentic Hong Kong dim sum experience. It's a Taiwanese chain renowned for their soup dumplings. They also have branches in the US. Nothing wrong with the restaurant; it is excellent in its own category, and the service is superb too.

Hey Kara and Nate :D I totally agree about going to grocery stores in different countries. I think my favourite so far was Carrefour in Paris - 1. They had really giant strawberries which I had for breakfast and 2. The cashier was cute lol x

Ding Tai Fung is one of my favorite restaurants in Taiwan! Usually it's the first or second place I got eat when I go back. You should have gotten the pork soup dumplings. That's what they are most famous for. Those have the soup inside. The staff is always attentive as well in Taiwan.

Oh my God, your trip to Hong Kong looks exactly like mine. We were also caught by surprise by the cold weather, the excess of cooling systems and the non-existense of heaters :D I think people who go to Hong Kong are often left surprised by the way the city looks like in real life, while only its luxurious parts, the skyscrapers and the lights are being promoted worldwide. It's an interesting place to explore life, to find what you should be thankful for and how people in a place like this struggle everyday. It's also a place that can teach you how to become a better traveller, since many things are so compicated. I love your vlogs! Stay possitive! :)

tea is usually count per heads (around $6-10), then you can drink as many as you want. Ask them to refill the tea pot if you finished! The refill is free.

You guys just proved to my husband why I always take my Eddie Bauer Packable Jacket with me when we travel. It folds up super tiny and I have a "down" jacket when I need it. Win/Win And for the record - yes I am binge watching on a Friday night! :-)

haha... i am from hk and it's quite interesting to watch this vlog the soup didn't come out from ur dumpling because the instructions are meant for a specific type of dumplings (not the kind which you have ordered), but it was good that you have enjoyed it and admiralty station is the WORST station to be at during rush hour... blahaha... u probably should have eaten at the Ding Tai Fung at causeway bay before the race

so i found this video after a long time missing hong kong bubble waffles. i genuinely smiled when i saw kara and nate getting them as it is a personal must for me whenever i visit my home away from home. also: 'oh wow, those are very eggy' yup, just what i remember, just as its supposed to be 'your dumpling doesn't look like the one in the picture' ah yes, i see how confusing the menus and translations can be- my parents always translated for me :) OH MY PLEASEEE i saw the octopus cards and this one ad on the wall of the mtr station and i got INSTANT flashbacks... this video is going to hit the feels HARD. updating this comment 4 seconds later because ADMIRALTY STATION AHHHHHHH and some lady had the same glasses as my aunt this made my day. especially since i could understand some of the local chatter - thanks!

I am watching the Hong Kong videos, and you guys had a completely different experience than I had when I was there. We were in causaway bay, I found it everything around do rich and fancy with huge bank buildings, hidden parties and amazing food, but yes really expensive.

What a good idea to go see the horse racing! As an avid equestrian, I love horse racing! The view from the track was really cool too. I'll definitely have to check it out when I come to HK.

It's depends what part of Hong Kong you're at ... Just like many other countries , Some areas are cleaner then the others !! Did you tried to go visit to these places as the following : 1 - HK Victoria Harbor Front, Shau Kai Wan - Quarry Bay Promenade. 2 - HK Nathan Road. 3 - HK Park, HK Zoological & Botanical Gardens ? These place are much cleaner & you'll love it !!!

The dumpling you had was a jiao zi which is boiled so does not haves any broth inside. the one you saw on the picture was a bao zi a different type of dumpling with more moisture inside because they are sometimes steamed

Yes, everything in Hong Kong is very expensive but it is quite an amazing city, truly a global city. Din Tai Fung is a Taiwan-based dim sum chain. You should have gone to Tim Ho Wan, Hong Kong's home-grown hole-in-the-wall dim sum chain and became popular in 2010 when it was awarded a Michelin star, thus becoming the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world. Tim Ho Wan can now be found in the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia and New York.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, so I shall… I also imagine that you’ve learned this in all your travels by now, but if you haven’t… in Chinese culture it is bad luck to have your tea cup empty! Even when you finish the meal and leave the table, it is expected that your tea cup be full. It signifies abundance and fruitfulness. If you don’t want any more tea, it’s best to just leave the cup full, because it will get refilled every time 🍵 it’s something I learned at a young age from my grandmother

I travel alone and never eat in restaurants. In Rome my hotel was next to a grocery where I bought a variety of Italian meats and snacks for my dinner. Always interesting. In NYC its the street venders!

Ding Tai Fung is a famous taiwanese restaurant that has branches in hongkong and singapore. The instructions you saw were for the xiao long baos(small dragon buns/dumplings). That is the quintessential product that people order whenever they are there. Do try it next time but watch out for the hot broth inside!

I got the same cofee addicition as Kara. Hunting for coffee in the morning like that makes me coffangry. I've had dumlings just ones and I were in heaven. It sure costs to have a happy wife sometimes. Expensive dumplings is better than Gucci and dimonds anyways. :) All those people. Thank goodness this was years befor covid.

i would stay at causewabay, very cosmopolitan area with lots of cheap hostels and you got those cool double decker electric trains =). dimsum restos are generally more expensive inside the mall, that was inside the mall hehe

You're absolutely right. HK's MTR is NOT fun at rush hours esp at Admiralty. admmiralty's a no go zone for us Hongkies between 8-9am and 6-730pm.
