One thing I've noticed in watching tons of Rush videos - the guys seem to love each other every single night. So great to see after so many bands breaking up and showing so much contempt for each other. Long live Rush! RIP Neil.

The South Park intro was created specifically for Rush's show at their request. The creators of South Park Trey Parker and Matt Stone are good friends with Rush and they were happy to do it for them.

At a certain point in Getty's career he was taking a bit of voice couching instruction to help save his voice and also everyone's voice changes as they get older so don't judge the change ,he still was a damn good singer .The boys were constantly evolving and thats what made them the greatest band ever for 4 decades. 🤘RUSH🤘 Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦

In some ways the fans that are a Rush concert know the song so well that they carry the tune in their own heads I think half of the time. He's 55 here and has decades of pretty hard vocals behind him at this point. From this point onward it's mostly noticeable in the later concerts on the older songs. They did a pretty good job of staying within his current register in the later albums. The last album, Clockwork Angels, his vocals sound fantastic, and it's just that they wrote songs appropriate for his voice at that time. The mix on this live recording was slightly bass heavy and a bit off in my opinion. Much of what you hear is literally in the studio version it's just on a different bass and a much better mix. All that said great performance! Thanks for reacting. If you want to see a great live performance on his last tour check out The Garden live.

According to Neil, "Tom Sawyer was a collaboration between myself and Pye Dubois, an excellent lyricist who wrote the lyrics for Max Webster".

Yes, by this tour (2007) Geddy was struggling on the high stuff and he had to restructure his singing. On this track I think something got lost in Alex's direct guitar feed to the recorder desk or it just wasn't adjusted properly for his solo so you're hearing more of his ambient arena sound. Geddy's bass is only a direct feed to the house system without on-stage amps so it's coming through loud and clear.

Interestingly, Geddy Lee's most successful single wasn't with Rush. He was the lead vocalist on "Take Off" which reached #16 in 1982.

As you may know as you age it gets harder to hit high notes and there's no exception here as they got along in their career Geddy had a harder time with his upper register therefore you saw the straining. Being from Canada you probably know this but as time went on they wrote songs that were much lower and more comfortable for him to sing. Checkout resist, the garden, and headlong flight
@Bass17yl

Yeah, Geddy had to rewrite some vocal melodies in his later years. He started swallowing some high notes like he did here. It keeps him in tune on the notes he decides to keep. Fair trade off imo

Have to keep in mind this was the 21st song (with vocals) in that setlist. I saw four shows this tour and Geddy's voice was in the best shape of the post 90's tours.

Great video/reaction and observations. Always educational to watch a music prof dissect the details. Btw , the base lyrics for TS was provided to Peart by Pye Dubois - a Canadian poet who worked mostly with Kim Mitchell and Max Webster - and Neil reinterpreted them to become the ones we know today. I’ve seen Rush 24 x beginning in 1984, and Geddy was always impressively on point. It always baffled me how he remained composed throughout all of those difficult lyrical moments (what a mouthful Neil’s lyrics always were!), and how one could fumble those up pretty easily, notwithstanding the tight rope act he put himself through while playing incredibly melodic and lead structures on the bass while filling in with keys and Taurus pedals. The man is truly a musical icon, and I’d go as far as genius. I for one always connected with his voice and lyrical delivery/sensibilities. For me he remains one of the greatest singers in rock, along with a Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury and Sting. RIP NEP- you were adored by millions and dearly missed .

Ok, Rush is one of my husband's favorite bands of all time behind Boston. I'm not a Rush fan, but will listen to a few songs Tom Sawyer is one of them. Now....can you do some reactions to Country Artist???? Chris Stapleton is a must listen! His cover of Tennessee Whiskey is fantastic! You will love his bluesy country. Pick more country, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, and my two favorite female singers Faith Hill & Martina McBride. Please consider listening to some country. I like your channel and will be watching for more videos. Thanks! Trudy

The sad thing is they only got better live over the years, it's only Geddy's voice that deteriorated. R40 would be easily the best live dvd I own if his singing didn't sound so strained. Regardless, Geddy is the man and one of my musical idols!

Regarding Geddy's 'enhancement' of the classic bass line here. and his 'alternate' lyric melody - I once heard from someone (of course, a musician) that a composition is NEVER 'complete' or 'finished'. A painter doesn't paint MONA LISA more than once, but a musical piece can be played repeatedly, but never the same - by choice or accident! haha I've written some music that I liked, then later maybe got bored with it, or just chose to ADD something more to it. Ged is getting a bit fancier with the bass from 'boredom', but toning down the vocals from necessity.

Well as he got older it was harder and harder for him to hit those highs . Especially on a guest performance where you come out and sing a song or two . I mean hell he's almost 60 there. Nobody can do it at 60 the way they did at 30. I don't care who you are. And even when you can . There are gonna be those nights that aren't as good as others . Even Neil had his nights that he wasn't pleased with. Rush is the only band where half the audience is air drumming. Or the only audience that sings along with the instrumentals. Rush was always great to me and still are and will always be great.

Just came across your reaction channel. Honestly, I took a look because I thought you were pretty damn cute, and watched this particular episode only because I cannot stand RUSH, and I was curious about what you'd have to say. I found it amusing that his high voice wasn't cooperating, yet I will say that Neil Peart was the best drummer, ever! 🥁

Ironically this song in particular was not a walk in the park for Neil. He always talks about the toll this song took. He is riding that high-hat so hard on the second half of the song that it just wore him out.

Sadly, this was when I noticed that his voice was starting to go. R30 and on was tough. I felt he began to over sing, and if you were up close. You can definitely see it. I thought it was strange for him, because I've been to their concerts in the 90s and I thought it was a cool transition where he began to "talk" through the lyrics. Idk if that makes sense? Having said that. I still thought they were fantastic. As for the R30 or Time Machine, and any live performance thereafter. The engineering was horrible 😫

Geddy definitely struggles by this point. Hence all their later music accommodate his loss of range. Alex is a big geeky dork. :) They all are, but Alex takes "silly" to 11.

From 2010 on Geddy just couldn’t quite hit the highs, and his higher register overall seemed weaker. It’s too bad, because the band as a whole sounded great. For me, even though there’s nostalgia, I don’t listen to RUSH live recordings from the last couple of tours they did. RIP Neil.

Finally, someone else who says what I’ve been saying for years. All those years touring without an opener ruined Geddy’s voice. I’ve seen the band 7 times live but sat out on their farewell because I can’t listen to Geddy sing anymore. They could at least clean it up for the video release. BTW, The Rock and Roll HoF performance was abysmal. Geddy couldn’t land on a note and didn’t seem to care. I will say that their recent performance with the South Park guys for the show’s 25th anniversary was decent.

You are a vocal coach and you picked this time period? Geddys voice is completely gone. There’s tension because he’s old. To get a fair analysis you need to go to 1981 when he last had a voice… Come on man!!! Here let me help.. sheeeeeah…ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sJt9zXtOBAY.html
