@@ericvonsteuben7533 Unfortunately his sound got lost in the synth of the 80s for me . It has its place in a song but not the lead it took over there sound The next thing you know you end up with a Flock of Sea Gulls hair cut
@@garya7893 Understood, and that's a legit opinion of many people. But I think the synth 80's has some of his most creative guitar work. Power Windows is probably my favorite album, and I think his guitar work on that is incredible. If you haven't listened to 80's Rush in a while, I suggest giving it another chance.
@@ericvonsteuben7533 Will do I love the Garden cry every time i watch it.I got it to them in 77 The early years are part of my brain and The Fountain of Lamneth will be in my hearing aid if i make it to 90 years old in the old folks home Peace to ya
Hello from across the pond. David here on my dads phone. If you want to check out a 2010 documentary called, Beyond the Lighted Stage, which can be found on RU-vid as well as streaming I believe. You’d get a real good glimpse of the story of Rush. It’s made by the same dudes that did the Iron Maiden documentary. Also check out an Easter egg from the DVD called, Diner with Rush, that can be found on RU-vid. It’s a riot. It shows them be as silly as can be in front of strangers. lol PS. My nickname for Alex, is The Canadian court Jester. He’s a real jokester. They have many nicknames for each other, they certainly had a good run as friends and band mates. Cheers
Great reaction Rory!! This is one of my all-time favorite songs!! This was done live, without an audience....and they nailed it!! YYZ and Leave That Thing Alone, are a couple of amazing live songs. You should check them out...see what you think.
I miss them too! R.I.P Neil Peart!! Hope we get some songs from Alex and Geddy more often. 25th anniversary of a cartoon was recent. Alex is with a new band. Album out any time.
It posted fine. They were mid 20's here, and had just written this song. This was live in an empty studio, took them 2 or 3 takes to get each part right, this is a combination of the takes. I recommend you do the encore from the 2010 Time Machine Cleveland show, was this followed by Working Man - they were in their late 50's and had just played close to 3 hours.
Glad you watched this one. If you want to see then even younger check out Rush Bandstand Laura Secord School. They did a few songs but I like Bad Boy the best. It features John Rutsy their first drummer before Neil joined the band. Also, please react to Dinner with Rush. You will see the guys having a "business" dinner where the wine is flowing and so are the jokes. Cheers
Just as you did the studio version and live version of this , I high,y recommend Workingman live in Cleveland extreme Fire 🔥 🔥 see how three guys in their 50s end a three hour show, this has three transitions from kick back to u0 tempo to Fire 🔥 🔥
Oh sh** - I told you my favorite was the Pink Pop version. My bad. This is the one to watch. I got 'em mixed up in my memory. The Pink Pop one isn't even the whole song, but it does start out at the guitar solo and it is a great version of the solo. It's worth watching for that. Also - the best version of Xanadu is the live version from the Exit Stage Left tour - better IMO than the studio recording.
I think they got better as they get older. I feel that they do this song better in newer live concerts. Of course this is good but they are like aged fine wine when they were older.
If you want to catch a glimpse into a snippet of a very young Alex Lifeson’s life experience then check out the video ‘Rush Alex Lifeson Argues with his Parents About his Future’ which runs almost 8 minutes and the title is self explanatory. The many interview/insights of the band and it’s members videos available here on RU-vid are excellent viewing and provide behind the scene context to what drove them to create the music we all now enjoy and appreciate. You get to see the connection they have with each other and how it contributes to how they mesh so well together and why their musicianship is so tight which basically brought their genius to even a higher level.

Trilogy of fear 3 songs off 3 albums: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e-QIVbPMd3A.html Studio and live: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--_i4cZBqpVs.html Best to listen to studio first and watch them do it live. I was fortunate to see them perform this live.
If you liked Geddy's Rickenbacker bass in this performance you're gonna love Geddy's double-neck Rickenbacker with bass on the top neck and a 6-string guitar on the bottom neck in their live performance of Xanadu (Exit Stage Left). Alex also plays a double-neck guitar in this classic performance with a 12 string guitar on top and a 6 string on the bottom. Warning: the awesomeness of Rush performing Xanadu live in the Exit Stage Left video might just cause you to pass out!
Live is great. You should finish this song with a live performance from Cleveland where they fun with this song- still killing it as they approach there 60s. I believe it was part of their encore before working man- which will completely blow your mind ( my favourite of their live performances).
this video looks like their Hemispheres Tour, I believe RUSH considers this their most difficult piece to play live... when they wrote the songs for Hemisphere they just went crazy as far as writing complex and challenging music, I've heard an interview where they acknowledge they took things a bit too far on Hemispheres and that's when they started focusing on shorter tighter pieces as evidenced in Permanent Waves and later Moving Pictures
Good one Rory..and,yeh, watching them playing live is a whole different ball game. And make a note that for any live Rush reactions, go to StickHits channel on yt first. He has spent hours upscaling the quality of some fantastic Rush stuff and has stated he doesn't mind if others react to it so you'll be safe in that regard and won't get blocked. cheers :)
Rush was more about making superior music rather than living up to rock star cliches like banging 16 year old groupies, getting drunk and high, fighting, and tearing up hotel rooms. Great musicians who also had class and intelligence.
if you want to see early check this video out... RUSH performing your favorite song Working Man at a high school (featuring the original drummer John Rutsey) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ndjCXG_c9kk.html
