My only criticism of this song has always been that it's too short. But over time I have realized that I am only criticizing myself, for this song is so perfect in its short triumph and radical emotions, that any longing for more is just my own selfishness. This is a short perfect song. If I want something longer, there is always "The Main Monkey Business" - or perhaps all 20 albums from Rush.
This is a very special album from Rush. Watch the documentary titled "Rush - The Game of Snakes & Arrows Video Documentary". The creation of this short ass-whooping instrumental is covered in that doc. Geddy was just messing around one day and the producer heard it and was like, dude, that's gotta become something and be on the album.
Watched the documentary of the recording of RUSH's "Snakes and Arrows" album and this was just a jam that Niel and Geddy did while Alex was away. Alex sat with the recording and added guitar 2 days later. They decided to go ahead and include it n the album. Niel played a basic trap kit on it. ANYWAY....this is what happens when they'd just jam. EDIT: 14 non-players without a clue disliked this jam.

As a lad I became friends with a local rock radio DJ because I was interested in his daughter. That all fell through, but he still would let me over and show me Rush deep cuts and sing their praises. Being a grown man, I totally get it now. Thank you, Dennis.
My 30-year old niece is a big Rush fan (thanks to me). She just watched Team America. Of course, she just had to call me and tell me all about her amazing discovery…..😆😆😆
A little bit can be relatively normal or even healthy but too much of it can be destructive and fatal. If you've never been on the end of that then thank your lucky stars as it's soul destroying in evey possible way.
I don't know how to play this bassline normally so I'm playing it with slap, double thumb, hammer-ons and pull-offs. I get the feeling I'm taking the hard way around, but I can't find a tutorial. I love this bassline!
And to think this song was nothing more than an accident that just sort of "happened" after Boujjjzze! secretly recorded Geddy playing his new fretless Jaco bass unplugged in between vocal track takes... First time I listened to it, which was on release day, I was baffled thst the song wasn't any longer than what it was and that they didn't do much more with it.... but then after watching the Game of Snakes and Arrows documentary... it all made sense after that
Normally, I'm not a fan of a wet bass tone, and that's my biggest (and only) complaint about Geddy's playing. Normally I like bass to be kinda dry and poppy. But dear Lord, that second bass fill in the interlude, although drenched, has such a fat sound and fits so well that I just loop that ten-second chunk over and over. Such a great fill
Incidentally, this song won the Grammy award as "best rock instrumental" for that year. Oops, I must point out that I was rightfully corrected below. It was just a nomination.
@@mikehocquard2843 - Ouch! You're right, now that I checked the link you left. Crap, someone steered me wrong. I should have checked for myself. That someone meant they were nominated, obviously. But it's really weird that they lost the award to Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), and just as weird is that Wilson did an instrumental. And drat, I also noticed Rush didn't win for best polka album either, although I can live with that.
Think this is good ? Try ‘happy bridge’ by nomeansno. Equally brilliant. If I can introduce one person to nomeansno then my time on earth has not been wasted. (Btw the sudden end to the song is because it leads straight into kill everyone now’)
Too dimwitted to understand it. And even if the song had lyrics outright making fun of him, Rush would've never allowed him to use one of their songs. Your comment is still funny though based on the title of the song.
