I know I'm in the minority but I actually enjoyed this album more than Clockwork Angels. I love how this album combined their heavy sound they had going for the last few years and their vintage progressive sound.

Even though I like this album better, I still like CA though, my biggest problem was glossy production.

I am still letting these "later" albums marinate before I begin to give them a heavy consideration. I have long been frightened of the end of Rush because their music has meant so much to me over these last 35+ years. I don't always agree with Neil's lyrics and I love some songs more than others but there is a deep appreciation for how they got me through some very rough times in life. So many times I was able to simply continue living because I could escape into Rush. I do love SaA. But then there is still "Presto" and "Test For Echo" and "Roll The Bones" and "Counterparts" and.......I still have not squeezed all the juice out of "Fly By Night". :) Clockwork is still new. I have yet to fully unwrap it. Not sure if I ever will fully unwrap the last few albums. The end is troubling.

Rush proves to me constantly that being "moved" by music can be either dangerous or inspirational. This song is one of many by them that points to the shadows to make obvious the light.

I have never been a die hard Rush fan like most folks on here. I know all the classics but cant say ive ever owned a Rush album. I had the opportunity to catch the Snakes and Arrows tour in San Antonio at the "old" Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre back in 07' I believe and must say I was blown away by one of the best shows Ive ever seen..

Ehh I'm a Christian as well but this music doesn't change my beliefs, for someone not to love this music would be narrow minded and judgemental which is not for me to judge. But in my opinion, as a rush fanatic, they are my fav band of all time and the lyrics are so deep and philosophical, and I love science and sci-fi. The technically blows my mind, first two that I fell in love with rush was a farewell to kings and hemispheres. This music kicks ass and I'm so glad I got to see them in concert. If you want devil worship music go listen to my workout music : hideous divinity. Although I do enjoy Christian bands from time to time, I'm a musician at heart and Neil is a genius

Myself, I've decided not to have a favorite Rush album. They're all SO different! How the hell would you ever compare albums like Hemispheres to an album like Signals to Clockwork Angels? That, for me, is what makes Rush so cool. (PS: Among Rush's "heavy metal/rock" albums, I do think that S&A and Clockwork Angels are their best. =)

I feel so fortunate to have lived in this era to see Rush several times live-the're past their best and 'retired' now-but those memories live on forever! Liked this album but the live show in London,for whatever reason, was total ****- nearly walked out! Time Machine tour was different -the pinnacle for me-superb show everything worked!

+William Lintott, I listen to Hillsong, Jars of clay, Delirious, etc...Rush just talks about literature and a lot of cases in life that are told in a real good and metaphoric way, rush is not satanic, is just the way that you are taking it that you make it satanic and evil
@Kirkhill

who says? Nobody has to say, logic says it. Because it's based on evil lying to destroy the world. Just as Sharia Law is evil. It takes other's freedoms away. Therefore, it is wrong.

This is Rush's first prelude type instrumental and they master It with ease, Just like there first instrumental La Villa (which is by far their best) there first "epic" i would give credit to the necromancer, and that song was amazing as well. they just know what there doing!!!

It's ridiculous how many people are talking about this being "Satanic". Question: How? There are almost no lyrics that support Satan or down-tread God which means that who-ever takes these things as Satanic clearly has only heard the music and uses the stereotype (wrongly) attributed to it. Some examples: "No-one gets to their heaven without a fight"-meaning you have to work for a reward. "What should have been our armour becomes a sharp and burning sword"-talking about the militarisation of countries instead of working on defence. "Such a lot of pain on the Earth"- complaining about the amount of suffering in every country. Any reference to anything Satanic is to make something bad seem worse.

I'm a huge early rush fan , 2112, fly by night, hemispheres, stuff like that. But I'm having a really hard time deciding if this is as good as that stuff. Geddy is definitely singing lower and the lyrics fit with the songs more unlike in songs like limelight where he'll drag out words or smoosh them together. And this sounds more heavy that it does prog. so I don't know.

This music is not religious, satanic, or athiest. It is freedom, liberation and love, prophecy and clairvoyance, encrypted into music. This goes back all the way to Neil Peart joining them. Every song has a message and is more than meets the eye. It is more than fundamentalist beliefs, but spiritual freedom. A concept all religions share, yet don't enforce and even detest. Clearly shown by other comments. Its time to put traditional religion aside and fill our hearts with unconditional love and our minds with wisdom. We must all express ourselves freely and support one another. We must embody the eternal love of the universe the way Christ did and move past our evil ways that are found in all our world leaders from politics to religious structures. Fuck the system.

I'm a year late to this party, but you're spot on with your analysis in my view. People all over the internet and society at large are so eager to place themselves into these divisive and polarizing tribes of so-called atheists and believers in Christ. (I use these two broad categories because these two are the main players with the highest soapboxes when it comes to "debates" on platforms such as RU-vid.) I just returned to this album for the first time in years via this video with a more mature perspective on my own spiritual beliefs. I just got through Armor and Sword, which I used to, in my more immature religion hating late teen and early twenty years, take as a critique of anyone who clings blindly to some sort of dogma without facing the "obvious truth" of a Godless Universe. This ideology no longer describes me, and I've come to now view this song in particular as an explanation of how all forms of militant, dogmatic faith (be they traditional religiosity or atheism) create a means for us to simply ignore ourselves and others in the pursuit of feeling intellectually and spiritually superior. We use these beliefs to attack the foundations of others with the delusion that by doing so we will prove how stupid the other side of the argument is. The context through which we view the beauty of the Universe should have been "our armor", but has instead "become a sharp and burning sword." A weapon designed to hurt, inflict, and destroy rather than encourage brotherhood and love. Anyway I'll continue with the album now
