The third and final video from my personal rush video collection in tribute to the passing of Neil Peart. One of my favorite tours that I saw and by far the loudest! This tour also featured a full performance of 2112.
Holy Sh&T!! Have never seen this. This hold a very special memory for me. They rehearsed for this in Glens Falls, NY at a TINY arena north of Albany. They rented a generator from a company I used work for to do the rehearsal. I dropped by one night during rehearsal and hung out with the crew for about 20 minutes and saw a little before I had to go. Next day I talked to Sheila Posner from SRO management and she offered me two tickets for opening night in Albany for being a vendor during the tour. Nicest people I’ve ever dealt with in my career. Unforgettable
I saw the Hold Your Fire tour at the Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany. To this day, It was the loudest concert I've ever been to. I had tinnitus for days but it was worth it.
""The Professor sticking his tongue out & the camera 17:04 is the BEST!!!!!!! ...they were really having fun with the hometown advantage!! great SHOW!!
Intricate music, sophisticated, incredible timming. Beats & over all music. Amazing band over 53 years ! By Rush ! Amazing, how they can remember ? All the the numbers , over 5 decades ! Note for note ! Songs !
I was beyond exicted that they were going to play all of 2112 on this tour. When they ripped into the Finale I completely lost my shit and since I was standing in the pavillion by myself (a friend had bailed on the show & I bought a single ticket on my way into the show) the folks around me phsically moved away from me. I'll never forget that and how utterly amazing that song was.
Rush, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. All of them changed music forever, albeit in very different ways. They just don’t make them like this anymore. Got to meet Geddy and Alex in Nashville on this tour. Such down to earth, great people. Miss this band!!!
LIove Alix and Geddy But loved Mr. Professor Neil Peart even more as I am a drummer as well. I loved this cats drumming years ago as I knew he was an innovator not only that but a historian and a visionary. Be aware folks. What was written may come true . we are in trouble. Doesn't take a genious. Look at whats happening to our world.
Neil's occasional cheeky smiles behind his kit, punctuating his usual laser focus and stern face. Just happened upon a few old Rush tunes on RU-vid today and feeling a bit teary for the past; Rush's, the world's, and ours. Stay strong, Rush family.
Damn, I feel you. Neil was our philosopher poet. He guided us through the classical renaissance all the way to the post apocalyptic, space age aspirations of an analog kid.
Oh my gosh! Where did this come from? I am in heaven right now watching this. I LOVED that tour! That wasn't just the first time they played all of 2112, it was also the first time they played solo without an opening act and had two sets of songs. I have their music DVDs and BDs and tapes, but I don't remember the video for this one. Is my age finally catching up to me? This is awesome! "Virtuality" didn't even make it onto the live CD. I'm sooo happy I found this!
Rush actually filmed a show for a possible DVD release on this tour but the sound and video got screwed up somehow. This is indeed, a rare gem. A most excellent gift.
I don't think it's your age... I believe this was still back in the "Live concert album only every four studio album" days. We got so spoiled with Concert DVDs for every tour shortly after this. We won't ever see Rush again, but thank goodness for all those great concert DVDs!!!
Rush will go down in history as the greatest rock trio on the planet. Three amazing musicians fused into one. Their technical abilities are second to none. That's what I always loved about Rush. Their music was not just 3 chords, it was all over the map but it made perfect since. Never to be duplicated. Rest in Peace Neil.
If the tour dates are accurate this was the end of the tour, late June/early July 1997, it's just a handful of weeks before Neil's world began to crumble with the death of his daughter, and then his wife mere months later... the wonder that is Ghost Rider is small compensation for that great loss. Seeing those few (though precious) glimpses of emotion from Mr. Stoic are all that more poignant knowing the pending slap of reality so close down the path... May he ever Rock in Peace.
Now that is how Rush should be mixed and sound!!!! I love the drum tones here, the snare has some body and the guitars sound amazing. The drums started getting tuned way too high in the 2000's, everything sounded like timbales and way too. high pitched. This has muscle to it and the kick also is huge. I wish they would have stuck with this kind of sound more as they aged, the PRS guitars also sounded perfect for Alex. Still the greatest band ever no matter what, just love how everything sounds here compared to the final few tours!!
@Ash War , totally agree , been listening to these amazing guys since i was a kid in 1976 , seen them dozens of times , i,m based in Scotland but travelled like most Rush fans . The sound on the last couple of tours for me just wasn,t right , only my opinion , i thought maybe it was my ageing hearing , but i can hear loud and clear how they should sound right here , Moving pictures was the first tour i witnessed , how fortunate was i to discover ( through my brother ) this level of quality music at such a young age , sustained and energised me through many stays in hospital as a kid and teenager . There will never be another band like Rush , so so sad that we will never see them live again , but utterly greatful for the dozens of times i saw this brilliance .
Strongly agree! His 8" & 10" toms ended up sounding like octobans and I really didn't like it. I really wish they would have released a DVD of this tour.
I saw RUSH 14 times live. Was never anything but AWE.. I am a musician, who had learned and played many of the songs. There will never be a band, in the future than can match this shit.
A rare breed. I've been a massive Rush fan since I discovered them in 1981, and this shows why. How many bands can perform like this live. Will we ever see another band like them, probably not, but I would love to be proved wrong. 3 immensely talented musicians, who have remained the best of friends. RIP Neil
I could watch this for hours, still , was the best rock n roll band Canada has ever seen, no dought , 3 guys all jelled so well together, smiling as they entertained the world!!!!
@@iomibestlefty I can't think of another bass player who can multitask like Geddy does. But I do joke that if he ever decided to get Botox in his forehead and his eyebrows weren't able to go up anymore, he wouldn't be able to sing.
That’s how it was for me the first time I saw them when I was 16 on the roll the bones tour. I didn’t know all the material yet and when they came back on the counterparts tour I knew all the material by then and it was totally sensory overload 🤯
Fun fact this was the tour they dropped the opening act and went to the two-set 'evening with Rush' format. And the world was better for it. More Rush per Rush.
T4E was the BEST Rush show I ever saw and I've seen many up til 2015. I flew from Maine to Washington state to see this band at the Gorge in 1997. In 1997, the internet wasn't what it is now and it predated social media so we didn't get any heads ups on what was coming so we went to that concert knowing we'd get the mainstream stuff and some off the new album but we had ZERO idea we were gonna get Natural Science and the entire side 1 of 2112. Until the Rio shows, the Gorge was the largest crowd Rush ever played in front of at around 25000. Rush has been my favorite band since I was 13 back in 1983 and T4E show still ranks as my number 1 with the R4O show in Boston a close second.
I missed it as well, but I was pregnant that year and had a really rough time of it. But, it's all good - my daughter is a fangirl as well :) She's seen them on 4 tours with me. Worth it.
I was there, it was incredible! It’s only now though watching it on you tube do I truly realize how incredible they were that night. Totally blessed to see them play live...and in T.O.
no band will ever make music like rush did. only 3 people and they can pull it off live. people will be listening to rush well past 2112. Neil Peart will never be forgotten.
LOVE THIS!! I was at this concert!!! It was a BIG summer for concerts at the Amphitheater, particularly with this concert and THE WHO playing all of Quadrophenia.....wouldn't be surprised if 2/3rds or all of RUSH were at that concert, it was of course phenomenal!!! I had heard that they didn't have a quality recording of this concert, something went wrong and the voice wasn't matched to the video....i am pretty sure that wasn't the case, the quality is exceptional here!! Thanks for posting this!!
There might be a lot of great drummers with incredible skills. But for my $ Neil crushes everyone as the best soloist plain and simple. He takes you to different eras in time with his creativity alone! I haven't seen anyone else do that!
“Back in my day, nobody chose to be the bass player,” Geddy Lee told Rolling Stone in 2020. “You were always a guitarist, and somebody said, ‘Well, we need a bass player,’ so they had a vote and you became the bass player.” With a laugh, the legendary Rush bassist adds, “That’s how I became a bass player: I was voted in. I think that was pretty common for the period, because everybody wanted to be Jimi Hendrix; everybody wanted to be Eric Clapton; everybody wanted to be Jimmy Page.” “I adapted to it very quickly and really loved it,” Lee says of the bass. “And I think that’s what happens with most of these great bass players. Now, of course, it’s cool to be a bass player, but it wasn’t always.” Yes, Geddy certainly 'adapted to it.' Like Superman adapted to flying.
Thank you for sharing! I love the live version of Limbo! I can't believe I missed seeing any videos from this tour - really love the setlist and have this bookmarked :) So grateful that they seem cool with people sharing and watching and aren't quick to issue take-down demands like some groups have done.
This was such a great tour. Thanks for sharing! Snare drum tone is through the roof. It’s been mixed too low on many recent DVD’s so I’m super happy to hear that punch to the chest.
Don’t Canadians sweat..?! 🇨🇦Is it the climate or something..? After all that energy and complexity and not a bead on any of them at the end.. Incredible performance…
Where was this? It seems Allpine valley, i was there in 1990 on Presto tour 2 days, ipened mr. Big. I travelled from Spain and lost my job only for my dream. See Rush. The best of the best. ❤❤❤ Alex on 27:47 ohhh my God!!!
One of few bands I'd seen at least 6 times, I know it's not a huge amount, but Ive seen 100s live and none stood the test of time to the very end like Rush has.
this is the first time I ever saw them play virtuality live unbelievably amazing the best trio band ever. masters of their instruments hands down and their live performances are just AMAZING
This is insanely great. Thanks for sharing. I was blown away seeing them live years ago and didnt know would still be my favorite concert after seeing an uncountable amount of bands since. I just cant believe how they just kept getting better with age. Sadly we lose our heros:(
Just reading all the love in the comments for this group Rush; in my opinion the greatest group ever! It brings a tear to my eye. The 2112 album inspired me in many ways, but mostly to become a drummer. Certainly no where near the level of Neil but he has always been at the top of my greatest drummer list. And really with no equal! Sure there are other really great drummers but only Neil could be a symphony of drumming as is evidenced on 2112. Just simply WOW!
On rockline which geddy was on a LOT, he talked about a test for echo show they recorded where some of the audio was ruined. Is this that show? I noticed its not the full show. Geddy said that they may release a shortened version of that show but never did.
Ll there full album sides were awesome just wish I could've seen fountain of lamnenth in its entirety live it just maybe the best of the three but hey not complaining cause seeing two out of the three not too bad. Hemispheres on waves tour
Awesome concert I was there. they did side 1,,, 2112 for the first time in a long time so that was a real treat. the ticket was a birthday gift which made it that much better.
This was my first outdoor show in the Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Fla. I was taken aback by the effect in the overall sound and experience vs. the dozen arena shows I’d seen of them previously. Sound engineer did a great job. Neil’s snare was popping like a Nolan Ryan fastball. Then ‘Natural Science’ was flowing through me. Lerxst guitar was cranking and seemed grittier but was awesomely appropriate for that venue. Magnificent show!
I saw them TWICE in Phoenix during this tour. First show in late ‘96 is the first time I saw them have technical problems. Alex’s guitar wasn’t audible for most of the first 3 songs. I guess they thought they owed Phoenix another show and the show in May ‘97 was AMAZING 😎 with no technical glitches.
