Totally agree with that sentiment. If it weren't for sports programming I might not need a t.v. because I can watch music on RU-vid from concerts and videos all day long all week month and all year long as well!
I have to say I agree with you. I don't see hardly any new stuff that is worth listening to more than once or twice. There are a few acts that are worthy, but they are so hard to find in the morass of mediocrity that is out there. I've watched this video about a half dozen times now, and I've listened to 2112 a couple hundred times over the years.
@@kristopherloviska9042 My first exposure to _2112_ was on _All the World's a Stage,_ and even after hearing the OG version, I still prefer the live one. I listened that album so many times, the grooves are worn smooth.
Geddy at the peak of his vocal power. I get that some prefer his later renditions, but there's something undeniable about his ability to belt his voice into the stratosphere.
All the other great guitarists out their are pretty much either solo acts (Satriani), or the overwhelming dominant stars of the band (EVH). Much easier that way. ONLY Lifeson stands toe to toe with the greatest bassist and greatest drummer in history and STILL is in the top 5 guitarists of all time. The secret is, he plays for the sake of the song, not for the sake of the guitarist.
@@codykniffen "Arguably the weakest member"??? What on earth does that even mean. If you meant he hasn't received the "world's best" plaudits that Ged & Neil had, you're wildly clinging on to things that don't mean anything. Alex has easily influenced as many people as Neil and Ged have in their respective instruments. And since many people don't take as much interest in bass or drums, Alex's sound has more easily arguably been more influential in their success - which would explain why people kept wanting them to get back to their guitar lead sound. Equally arguably Neil was the weakest link because there are a few drummers who could play the same stuff. That's how ridiculous an argument this is.
@@NotThatOneThisOne I think you're reading way too much into my comment, boss. They're all three incredible musicians, I'm just stating as far as ranking them amongst their peers Geddy and Neil are the best of the best. It's less a comment about Alex not being great, it's just a testament to how great the other two are.
yeah cool im a baby 54 lol. 55 in may.myokder bro is 60 got me into rush in like 79 i was a 12 .been a big fan if the older rush since then. pre 81 .after moving pictures .i lost interest. unlike maiden who when paul left in 81 they still rocked when Bruce joined and i was a fan
@@poss4757 guess im not alone then.my fav first cassette was fly by night. only the sound quality was weak on it no treble.lol.my first band was black sabbath and then Aerosmith .& rush.i still jam on all em
@@GRILLBUOY101Not alone at all there is a lot of us RUSH fans still jamming. I RU-vid a RUSH song daily. A funny thing I found a Bob Welch emerald eyes from California Jam 2 video I've watched it like 30 times in the last 2 days I had forgot about that song and there's just something about it anyway glad you enjoyed Rush
THIS A TRIO of musicians that should be regarded as the founders of the best alternative rock music ever. Geddy, Neil, Alex, (Rutsy) are something that needs to be thought about and realized, then enjoyed, once that has occurred, then celebrated. nothing is better then this awesome realization of what LIFE AND MUSIC CAN BE.
there are so many better drummers. you sound like a fan and not a musician. Neil was okay.. played pretty straight ahead parts. He was just a great great great team player. That gets points. But he wasn't doing anything many others could then, and do now.
@@morbidmanmusic he wrote the lyrics, created the narrative concepts for the albums...played a full part in creating the arrangements...played melodic instrumental percussion AND played with a tight dynamic musical style that always served the song, not many drummers have the chops to be a songwriter...Neil Peart did.
I play the drums many years Neil’s approach and attack on the trap set was pretty powerful and his imagination is what sets him apart from an average drummer
@@morbidmanmusic Name one. And don't say Bonham. Peart could easily play JB's parts in LZ songs. Bonham would be completely lost trying to play Peart's parts in Rush's music. And I like Bonham as a drummer.
Peart's passing today has led me here. Needed to pay my respects to the master lyricist and surgeon on the drums. Forever will be remembered as superb musician and resilient human being. He will be missed by many. Hail to Mr. Peart!
He led the band into the history books. Made the three of them into in my opinion the Greatest Power Trio Ever. I’m sure others will maybe dispute that but I did say it was my opinion. Saw them in Rockford twice, Madison once and Chicago three times. All totally unforgettable and each with improved skills, sound and showmanship. And most of all that I liked growing up thru those times of my youth. “RUSH” what a great name for an absolutely kick-ass ROCK & ROLL Band! They will be missed but never forgotten. Turtle 2021
Nothing remotely close to this these days. 3 very talented men who when they came together definitely had a synergy. Masters of the time change signature music, they made it cohesive. Best of all they were always a team, no competing ego's. We were blessed for 40 years it was a great run. Thanks Geddy Neil and Alex ....... : )
I love Rush (I've seen them 5 times), but I don't think he was exactly nailing the vocals that night. There were a few out of tune spots, and some low strength (maybe miking, maybe the mix). Nothing major. I always wondered what they would have sounded like with a different vocalist. I was always intrigued with his vocals, though. I'm impressed that he was able to sound like that for as many years as he did.
It's hard to believe how good these three musicians are here in just their early 20's - just kids really - and so mature as artists too. I'm glad they never bored or tired of their craft and kept giving us great music. Thanks guys!
Let's not look past the fact that he was recorded making this statement on Black&White videotape. I'm impressed by the stunning sound quality of this clip.
True and I caught this tour when it happened but they did have 4 studios albums on release at this time. And each record was an evolution so that, combined with the relentless touring, might have made them feel as if a song like Fly By Night was old as well as Workin Man.
Every video back then was lead guitar, singer's face, lead guitar, whole band then lead guitar. If the singer didn't play bass, you never saw the bass get played.
This was my first concert . I was 12 . They were the opening act for Kansas. 2 of they great rock drummers ever in one night . It was a life changing experience. R.I.P Neil
On yey, still gives me goosebumps today, like back in 1976 when i saw them play at the capitol , even the snow blizzard outside did not stop us making to the show
tom warren wow cool story. How did you find out about Rush given they weren’t exactly superstars in 1976? Was this show sold out? In New York it doesn’t snow much in December compared to January and February so it must have been unusual. Merry Christmas from a fellow Rush fan!
To be 43 in 2024, knowing I have years to still listen to Rush and get to know them more, blesses my heart ❤️ … I wish their was new music this good… I’d go ti every rush concert!!!! 🎉❤
And he could sing hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!
@Perfect Stranger His voice got better as he matured and actually learned how to sing. More than likely he got lessons and learned how to take care of his voice.
I have watched this many times and am still blown away at the musicianship of these three guys who barely more than 20. That audience must have been blown away. What a band!
was at this show. first time I saw rush. 3000 seat theatre. the sound just exploded thru every part of the body. absolutely stunning show. my ears were ringing for days. great to see it on youtube. remember it like it was yesterday.
When I see the news there's a lot that disturbs me, but I feel so blessed to have lived in a world with Rush! Thanks guys for the decades of enjoyment and the influence you've generated!
This is a trio with youthful (all around 23-24 years of age) exuberance belting out some raw heavy progressive rock. They would continue to record and tour for 40 more years after that. 40 years!!!! Let that sink in. We can all agree that Neil Peart has left us in awe and inspired to make the most of every day. _“From the point of ignition._ _To the final drive._ _The point of the journey is not to arrive.”_ ― Neil Peart
I was at this concert & waited with my friends in the cold for them to come out of the side door of the Capitol! Finally came out & we got to see them & off they went in there bus. Was & will always be my favorite band!
Imagine seeing Rush for the first time at this concert. Sure, they are a bit rough on the edges compared to how they played in a few years. But then you hear Geddy tell you "we want to play a song off our new album. This is called 2112". Then they proceed to blow everyone away with a 20-minute behemoth, face-melting shredding by Alex, and Neil drumming like a technical beast!
Unfortunately they only played the full 2112 song live during one tour. I believe during the Test for Echo tour. And yes I was very lucky to experience it several times during that tour.
Can't believe I'm watching this , I'm 60 now but I remember laying on my bed as a teenager listing to this album( fly by night) and I'm still listening to them👍
18:48 was the drum fill that made me fall in love with Rush back in 1976. Neil played it with complete authority!! NO ONE had EVER played like that before. Speed + Precision = Perfection. *
Amen to that. I remember seeing them in '82, Geddy's voice cracked while singing the " oooooo ooooh yeah! On 2112 overture. I, too, prefer this era of Geddy's vox. They were primo.
I thought I’d seen most Rush videos as they’ve been in my life for 40 years. But this is an amazing performance. Captures the energy of an amazing trio. No idea how they do it!
The guys just off stage watching this are thinking “omfg we have to follow them!” This is around the time I started listening to Rush, after release of 2112 Album. Incredible talent by all three of them! RIP Neil, thanks for the music and sharing your amazing talent with the world!
Jeff- me also! I was like 7 years old then. And my parents got me my first stereo of my own with an 8track player. And at that time I started to form my own taste in music. And the 3 bands that I first liked was the Beatles and kiss and rush!!!!! Fly by night was the first 8track of my own that I ever had. I remember that! And I was just blown away by rush! Especially Neil!!!! This was all before I even understood music at all. But obviously I had an ear towards legendary music!
My God, this is an absolutely breathtaking, almost unbelievable performance - especially Geddy's vocals. One of VERY few singers who actually sang better onstage than in the studio. I'm so glad we can go back and hear him sing while in his prime.
I was there with the woman who is still my wife. The bill was Montrose/Rush/Foghat and Foghat was who we came to see, having seen them do a tremendous show at the Wollman Rink in Central Park that summer. I remember that we hated Rush probably because of the unfamiliarity of the high pitched vocal. They had a following that took up the first few rows to the right side of the stage who were very enthusiastic. You know, people who wanted everyone to know they were the first to discover something. Turned out they were right and while young Geddy's vocals are at first,, still jarring, the musicianship is impressive. I own Rush's greatest hits, introduced my son to them as the inspiration of Coheed and Cambria and appreciate Geddy's turn with the MacKenzie Brothers and Alex appearance on Trailer Park Boys. I was watching a documentary on their farewell tour which led me here to 40 minutes of my youth. Mind blowing and unexpected. Thank you Rush and yes I did applaud that night because anyone who puts themselves out there with honest effort deserves our appreciation. I still go out and support live music, you never know what you might find even 41 years later.
Go figure, yox465 we were under the same roof at the same time as I was at this show also..I was left picking my jaw up off the ground. I quickly got in tune with Geddy's vocals, but it was the musicianship that really floored me. Having said that what a 3-band lineup though eh. Montrose (post Sammy H) and the boogie rock of Foghat who put on a great show as well. Memories...good ones!
@@undercoverhotdog Live music is great! I had tickets for Pearl Jam in late March at the Garden but it was cancelled. Still holding on to them though. One day we'll all be able to enjoy live music again. In the meantime, there's a lot of music on line. Happy searching!
You have to give Foghat, big props. Giving the warm-up band, not even the Special Guest an encore, after they set the bar so high, shows just how good they were. Totally different styles, but to appreciate the warm up bands performance is almost unheard of then and now.
I got to see the 2112 tour at the Auditorium theater in Chgo. Unbelievable and probably the last tour they ever played the entire 2112 side of the "album".
@@dez3332 actually, the Test Fo Echo tour featured the ENTIRE album side, which for the first time included the Discovery and Oracle parts. It was amazing, and I was lucky enough to be at the show where they recorded it for the Different Stages live album. Check it out!
Looking at this, which is three albums in, and then looking at R30 (Frankurt, Ger.). Man what a ride these guys gave us. There's ZZ Top, Judas Priest, and few others. But the bands that don't have internal problems and really like each other are the ones that are truly great. Yes I know someone will say Floyd, they are totally awesome, but the Gilmour/Waters issues and the exit of Waters left a hole that was never filled. This is my opinion but when these three men in Rush are on fire, there is not a band past or present that can touch them. The Power Trio at it's finest, then and now.
Jamie Koering that’s at no discredit to rush lol both bands were in their own top tier league. Jimmy page is a god tho and I prefer not to be a blasphemer 😂
Daniel Antone In the early days 1974' often backing up and to about 1978' i think I saw them 8-9 times in Boston, CT and NYC and they were so strong and it was good times, but the last 5-6 years I love how they are more relaxed on stage and have fun and their brand of comedy with the videos, etc at the shows. Of course his voice has changed with time and I like these versions also, but as a Guitar collecting junkie myself I love all the many Guitars & Basses they use in there recent years .... so many Beautiful Gibson's, Fender's, Rickenbacker's and PRS. Always a Great show from the 1970's until now. They sure have it together with their friendships. Thanks for posting. : )
Prog X - I got to see these guys a few times- They had a TON of fun together onstage- and that’s what really stuck with me, aside from the fact that what seemed like a million people at each concert were singing every word, and respectful to each other. I saw the tour where Geddy had the washing machines behind him- there were literally clothes in each of them😆
I was born too late, missed all these classic shows. Glad I saw Rush in 1992 and 2004 though. But if I was a teenager in 1976, I would have been climbing the walls at this concert.
Just turned 49 last month, thanks to my dad Rush has been the music of my life since birth. This is a damn good performance, so glad early footage of them like this exists.
As a music teacher that I am for so many years already, I just have something to say, RUSH FOREVER AND EVER 🎼🥁🎵🥁🎼🎸🎵🎸❤️❤️‼️Neil Peart was is and will always be The Greatest Drummer of all times👏👏‼️
All of them are, now. I was in High School then. Working Man was extremely popular, got decent airplay. First album, with John on drums, was good. But when Neil entered the picture, Fucking Hell! They really stretched the boundary, of what could be done with rock, through the years. I was just flat dumbfounded, every time I saw them. Very amazing to watch the precision with which they work. Truly Gods of rock. Jeez, they're going to be missed... Thanks boys, for 40 years of awesome music. It'll be a very long time before they're topped....
I had listened to some rush here and there when I was younger (I'm 27) but I went through a big box of old record to find caress of steel. Amazing from start to finish. Anytime someone mentions Rush now I tell them they need to hear this album from beginning to end. No break.
Just saw them last night R-40 tour...Awesome, and to think they were just 23 here! Fabulous band...Geddy is the master bassist shredder! Love his voice too!
I had the privilege to see Rush in San Diego on the R-40 tour. Amazing concert. This concert feeds my desire to find vintage footage of the early days. Thank you for releasing this. It is a pleasure to watch.
It is terrible what time does to all of us. They were soooooo young. Geddy has aged the best of the three. It is interesting to note that Geddy sang this way until Permanent Waves, where he credits voice lessons to Daisy. In Permanent Waves, there is a section in the song Free Will where he lets loose. After that...and to this day, he has toned it down. I still think he could crank it if he wanted to because his voice is naturally high pitched. The early material will ALWAYS be my favorite. It was raw and Geddy had that great voice.
Man...this is just freaking awesome! Thanx for sharing this. You made my whole summer as I will be watching this over and over again. My first concert was 1984 and I did not miss a single one after that. Made it to the stage on the closing set of R40. I will die a happy man.
I will be forever grateful to my older brother for turning me on to Rush as a 7 year old in 1989. All these years and I still well up with emotion and am just blown away. Plus I grew up in Baltimore but as fate would have it I married a Canadian girl and am now in the process of emigrating to Toronto. I have visited Lakeside Park as well but we got caught in a freak storm and had to seek shelter so I’m planning to visit again, maybe as an anniversary trip.
I saw them the night before in Springfield MA. They played between a Joe Walshless James Gang and Foghat. I had only heard of the name but not the music. They were jaw droppingly good; blew Foghat away!
Peter Karel Kraus ...I've been a huge Rush fan from the beginning...Was fortunate to see Rush on the 2112 tour at the legendary starwood club Hollywood ca...But I have to disagree with you, Nobody blew Rod Price away.
Very few bands could ever blow Joe Walsh away. never seen the James Gang with Joe or without him. How can you have the James Gang without Joe? that makes absolutely no sense.
@@robertellison4691 l find a bit funny that you post that on everyone that compliment his voice, and still nobody gave a fuck, sounds like that you really wanted attention
Welcome to the discovery of something truly great! I was 13, this was my first album (Live, "All the World's a Stage"). Wow! Saw them four times, that still wasn't enough. Check out all you can from them. Their DVD Rush in Rio from 2003 (I think) is a good one. Any of their earlier performances is magical IMO... Geddy's vocal range was higher back then. But it's all very special. I think this is recorded in Camden, NJ.
Geeze dude, why did you bother to state what I already stated? Or assume that I didn't know anything about them? I aint on youtube to make you happy. Quit being a Debby Downer and move on.
