My first album from them was All the Worlds a Stage got it as a teen in the late 70s If i end up in a old folks home in my 80s ill still be rockin Rush in my hearing aids
@@garya7893Exactly! If I'm ever in a coma, just play some RUSH! If I don't move or respond....then it's exit stage left for me! From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
I was front row for the "Clockwork Angels Tour".....Best experience of my life. I have a Starman tattoo and the Clockwork album alchemy symbols surrounding. Miss those concert days. Luckily we have reaction vids!...❤
I'm 64 years old I've been listening to these guys since I was in junior high school the bottom line is this after 40-something years they have never let me down the best band ever
Three geniuses pushing 60 at this point at the end of a three hour show! Working Man was off their first album and was the song that thanks to a Cleveland radio station and DJ Donna Halper got them their first record deal back in 1974. This sounds much different from the original. Both are bangers! When you have been playing a song for 30 plus years you like to change it up. I would also recommend listening to the original. Other Songs YYZ live in Rio Xanadu from Exit Stage Left Digital Man from the Snakes and Arrows tour The last bit that they played at the end is from Cygnus X1 Cygnus book 1 and Cygnus Book 2 (Hemispheres) which continues the story will take you on a journey. I would highly recommend those as well. I am glad you enjoyed Working Man. 😀 Cheers 🇨🇦
No one else even comes close talent wise...and not meant with any disrespect to other artists, musicians or bands, many of whom I love...but Rush is hands down in a league of their own.
Rush never disappoints. They consistently bring it. They're great live, as you have noticed. Suggestions: YYZ - live in Rio video Xanadu - Exit Stage Left video Spirit of Radio - live Toronto 2003 Neil Peart - Frankfurt drum solo 🎸🎸🥁
“What is that sound?” That’s Alex showing he don’t need no frets, lol. He’s playing the strings past where the fretboard stops, basically stopping the strings with his fingers. The strings won’t sustain for long, but he has so much distortion and is picking so fast that it doesn’t matter. It’s just makes really high pitched notes. Hell of a solo.
Working Man was their first hit, and it was first played in Cleveland. After it was played the radio station got bombarded with phone calls. Some people even mistook it for Led Zeppelin. The original was different. In this performance they were just having fun. For an underrated bass legend check out Victor Wooten - Victors Jam.
The greatest band ever assembled. Great great reaction. And honestly, they are 3 Master Shredders! Great line btw. Keep up the great reactions and continue down the Rush rabbit hole!
That my friend is how you end a 3 hours long jam session. Mind blown! I wasn't at that show but saw them on that tour in Canada. Guarantee everyone got their money's worth!
Just spent some time today reminiscing about this concert with the friend I took to see them in Toronto that year. I've never seen another band put in as much to each concert as these three Canadian heroes.
Well, they're not "super duper" young. They're far into their middle-age. This is a song from their first album that got played one night on a radio station in Cleveland when the DJ wanted a long song. He had this new album album from a new band and thought he'd give it a try. Everyone loved it, the song became a hit in Cleveland, and a recording studio signed them on and started their career. This song has always been a favorite of both them and their fans and got played on most of their tours. If you want to hear really fun stuff from Geddy on the bass, check out either "Leave that Thing Alone (Time Machine 2011 DVD)" or "Snakes and Arrows Live - Malignant Narcissism". Phenomenal bass playing in those two!
Rush would write sections where they would all 'solo' at the same time and make it sound cohesive. For another great example of this, listen to Freewill from Time Machine - Live in Cleveland (the studio one is great too), but the breakdown section in the middle is a wild ride. For some bass solo work, check out a live version of Leave That Thing Alone. Rush is a wild journey - and wait until you discover the lyricism!
Here’s the video of them doing the song in 1974 - at a Canadian high school, no less! They have come a long way since then. They were only 20 or 21 here and had just released their first album. The video has their original drummer, John Rutsey, and this was just a couple of months before he left the band. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SZYr_J9H54I.html
Performances like this are what happens when 3 musicians spend over 30 years developing and perfecting their craft together. The connection between them becomes so deep it's almost telepathic. 30+ years of experience and hard work created a masterful performance that no band in their 20s could possibly give.
Read the history of Rush, they got there big break from. A Cleveland DJ that put them on the national stage. They've ever forgot it and love Cleveland .
Masters in their class, most bands in the 90's and 2000's have been influenced by them in one way or the other, ask modern musicians or vocalist and I think they will agree.
RIP Neil. You were the best ever. Geddy is the G.O.A.T. on the bass. Alex is also one of the finest guitar players in the world. He don't need no stinking frets. LOL
No exaggeration I've probably watched 60 reaction videos to this and they all end the same way 🤯 lol. Glad you're discovering one of the greatest bands to ever grace this planet! 👍👏🎸🎶 Also love the hat! Go Blue! 👍〽️🏈👏
creative reggae version but I prefer the original rock version. this is the track that broke rush to fame and fortune and made them a household name. I still remember when this dropped and nobody knew who it was. people were asking if this was a new zeppelin track
You have just witnessed three concurrent solos by arguably GOAT musicians. This wasn't unusual, this is RUSH. If you was there another night, at another location, it was literally note for note.
Love seeing reactions to this.... Their encore is better than band's sets. Change of pace and geography... Try "Iron Sky", by Paulo Nutini - live Abbey Road session.
Great reaction!! I've been checking out your reactions and commentary about music and you are an amazing 👏 reactor. True lover of music, and appreciative of excellence in the artist's craft. Thank you for for shining the light on great music, from the past. These three virtuosos will continue to inspire many artists, going forward. The Rush rabbit hole continues. Please check out more songs.....like Here Again, By-tor and The Snow Dog, Natural Science, Freewill and Between The Wheels. See what you think....
They were pushing 60 at this point and this was the final encore after some 3 ½ hours of playing Rush music. No offense to anyone but those ain't Charlie Watts' drum parts The Professor is playing. Epic!!
Here's a link to them blowing the roof off another place about 30 years before the one you just watched. It's just as mind blowing. I hope you go back and watch Working Man again because just as the second guitar solo ends Geddy is playing a phenomenal bass line that might get overlooked on first viewing. 1:39 Cheers and keep up the great vids. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-59lRGtEpZeQ.htmlfeature=shared
If you loved Working Man, and LaVilla Strangioto. Then dude your ready for 2112. The whole first side is one song when your ready to get your mind blown even harder you HAVE TO PLAY 2112.
This has to be the best version of that song. A bit of history for you, this is THE song and this is THE town that gave them there first big break. its only fitting that there best performance back theere 50 years later. BTW please turn down the gain on your mic
I give credit to this song for keeping me half sane for the god-awful 3 1/2 years in Hawaii. Not a 808 fan. A band that played at a nearby bar/nightclub would play this and nail it. Giving me a reason to live. When they saw me roll in, they knew they were going to be "Working Men"
Check out the original of this song, this sounds nothing like the original and on the original John rutsey is the drummer, he was replaced by Neil after the first album
Great enthusiasm. Try malignant Narcissism at the Snake’s and Arrows tour. Very jazz feel and an original drum solo that isn’t FRANKFURT that Rush fans ALWAYS ignorantly recommend because they don’t know any better
Was going to watch, but why on earth would anyone have the video small and the reactor large. Needs to be the other way around. Ill watch when you reverse it
@@dame313 Well, I wasn't watching like I said. But you could have taken it as a learning experience to better satisfy people watching. Other reactors have learned this. But you're probably new and inexperienced. Good luck Bro
Nothing like a nitpicker..nag..🙄. He's doing a great job. Yes..he is young but he is doing a better job and much more enthusiasm than other reactions I have seen.
Yeah, hardly ever noticed by the music industry big-wigs who prefer to applaud countless other 'arrogant' musicians and these guys in their 50's (pardon, I mean no disrespect for Rush) literally shred it to bits; aside from their age and fighting arthritis and whatever other ailments. lol Nothing like having a lot of fun!
The thing is... bassists don't solo. They, along with the drums, build the foundation of every song. Every bassists accepts this (Other than the late Chris Squire). Geddy and Neal build every song from the ground up, and allowed Alex to add beautiful decorations that make the song exceptional.
Holmes...you play bass? Well, learn Tom Sawyer (studio version off Moving Pictures album), note for note. Make it your mega-big-time goal to learn it. Then play it for us. Only live once...just do it.
