@@thatshittysnarefromSTanger Thanks! I have never put up a comment that got so many likes before! The depth of feeling for Neil, and the shock of his passing clearly touched so many people.
Rush in Rio is one of my favorite live recordings of all time, because this is a crowd hyped beyond all sense of reason! Basically Brazil had an incredible fan base for the band... but Rush wasn’t really aware of it until this late stage of their career. So you had all these people in Brazil, fans who had abandoned all hope of ever witnessing Rush live... but when Rush did eventually find out, they deliberately added an extra two or three shows in Brazil. The documentary included on the DVD shows you the passion unleashed, men and women both just weeping openly just at the anticipation that Rush is coming... and then this, a football stadium filled to the brim with people whose dreams are finally realized. Simply epic...
Amazing band. I think Alex gets overlooked as being a great guitar player because Neal and Geddy are both considered to be best in the business on their instruments. Don't sleep on Alex, he's a fantastic guitar player.
My Dad introduced me to Rush when they released Rush in Rio and at that moment Rush has been my #1 Keep rockin in Heaven! RIP -Dad- 9/18/19 RIP -Neal Peart- 1/7/20
As a dad with a son who loves Rush, and much of the music I exposed him to, I can tell you that there’s nothing more gratifying than knowing I’ve had a positive influence in his life. I’m sure you had that impact on your dad. 👍
Bobby Scarfo I second this. Left the link to this song in another comment. I’ll leave it here too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eK1hmDpa8bo.html
“They ain’t said a damned word. Not one word. They’re just letting those instruments talk.” That sums up Rush perfectly. Great video. Thank you for helping keep one of the world’s greatest bands alive in perpetuity.
I'm going to suggest "Limelight" and "Subdivisions", two of Rush's hits. A lot of the die-hard Rush fans will suggest their more obscure works, and I'm sure they're great, but their hits are fantastic.
RIP Neil Peart, You were one of the best (if not the best) drummers ever, A real Canadian Icon... You will be greatly missed by fans and music lovers around the world.
Being a lifelong fan of Rush and having seen them live, I have 3 recommendations for you 1. The Spirit of Radio 2. Jacob's Ladder 3. This might confuse you, but you need to listen to YYZ again but Live from their "exit...stage left" tour. It has one of if not THE best drum solo of all time. Godspeed and welcome to the fandom
@@1997lordofdoom Not in my opinion. It's great of course, but the Exit solo was completely upbeat and groovin' through the whole solo, no breaks....complete continuity, it flows!!
The ENTIRE "Moving Pictures" album is a masterpiece!! Best to listen to it in it's entirety....beginning to end. Even better is to loop it and listen to it about 3X. Never gets old.....
Saw them at the Polaris Amphitheater in Columbus Ohio in the late 1990's. A bunch of us rented a hotel and partied B4 the show.....I drank 9 (near frozen) beers in 42 minutes! I remember about 1/2 the show....and even that's quite a bit fuzzy. But hey....that's how we rolled back then! Show would have been much better if I only drank 3!
3:51 - 'they aint said one damn word" 🤣🤣🤣 So true my man... as someone else noted below 'your reactions are fire' Hell yes... dude you are my new favorite. love watching and listening to your commentary
Jamel_AKA_Jamal me too!! You seem extremely bright the way you have been breaking down the lyrics and music. You also seem very genuine and to be a really good person
Yeah, man. "Xanadu" from the 1981 live recording from 'Exit...Stage Left' please. Ya gotta see them do that masterpiece and I believe it's the best recording of that performance.
I think you're the most genuine reactor on you tube. You can tell you really appreciate the music and the talent. I'm 47 and grew up with all this great classic rock and metal and it's really cool to see someone who gets it from the first listen. Loved the Rush reactions, I would suggest "Spirit of Radio" from them. Keep up the good work. God Bless.
In case you were wondering about the laundromat machines on the side of the stage, Geddy did that as a joke, since he doesn't use huge bass amps on stage and runs direct to the sound system, which would normally leave that side of the stage empty. On other tours, he had chicken rotisseries, and a guy in a chicken suit would come out occasionally during the show to tend to the chickens inside.
Only Rush can write an instrumental so awesome, that 100,000 -plus fans will sing along. I love watching these reactions to Rush. It's awesome seeing someone discover the Holy Trinity, and have their minds blown. #RIPProfessor
RUSH it is... Along the same timeline is a group "Jethro Tull" a rock group lead instrument is a Flute yes a FLUTE. Aqua Lung is one of their most well known album and song.
Jethro Tull: "Crosseyed Mary," "Locomotive Breath" "Bouree" or "Living In the Past (Live)" off the 20 Years boxed set are all solid pieces. My brother has a flute book signed by Ian Anderson from back in the late 80s
Well…. He’s certainly on the Mt Rushmore of rock drumming. And it’s true to say he’s a percussionist as well. But if we compare him to other percussionists-- he’s not even on any kind of “greatest” list. If you are comparing him, as a percussionist, to other rock drummers who aren’t percussionists, then yeah, he’s gonna look pretty great. But what Neil does on keyboard percussion or tympani is just a warmup exercise for any decent college percussionist. Not to mention truly world-class professional percussionists. Neil is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. And that’s pretty high praise. No need to inflate it.
Here after hearing of Neil's passing. Tough one. Soundtrack of my life. Maybe even more will discover Rush now, their treasure trove of music and find something that will make their life a little fuller. Great vids bro ! Subbed
The audience was singing along to the instruments. Another great reaction from my favorite reactor. I noticed you got a huge boost in subs in a short time. you have enthusiasm for music that is contagious.
Rush makes it look so effortless. They're so machine oriented in their playing precision, that they can walk bass lines and drum fills like they're ad-libbing in songs, but that's exactly how it's supposed to sound. Easily Canada's greatest contribution to music.
Not by me. He's good for Rush, but he can't hold a drum stick to the likes of Bruford, Collins, Bozzio, Thompson, Humphries, Wreckl, Paice and Porcaro, etc.
I was brought up on Rush. To see you have the same blown away reaction... means its still fresh and timeless. Thank you Rush. And thanks to this channel.. for keeping them rollin into a new generation...
This was filmed in 2003 for their Rush in Rio DVD box set. Their final tour was 2015 on the R40 tour. Alex officially declared the band retired during a press conference in January 2018
Fun fact...The cover for this album "Moving Pictures" is a triple entendre; the front depicts movers who are carrying pictures. On the side, people are shown crying because the pictures passing by are emotionally "moving". Finally, the back cover has a film crew making a motion picture of the whole scene. It was photographed outside the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park, Toronto. The pictures that are being moved are the band's Starman logo featured on the reverse cover of 2112 (1976), one of the Dogs Playing Poker paintings entitled A Friend in Need, and a painting that shows Joan of Arc being burned at the stake. The film crew on the back cover actually shot the scene, from which a single frame was used for the cover. This was revealed to Rush concertgoers several years later when the still image was shown on the stage projector which suddenly came to life as a film sequence.
One of the greatest Canadian rock bands! There is only three people making all that noise ! Most bands have 5-6 members who could only dream of producing this sound !
Greetings from YYC- Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Grew up in metro Detroit so we got to listen to these rock gods every morning on the way to school. WLLZ the home of rock and roll! 💜💜
Goosebumps!!! I'd love to see "The Garden", please...such a fitting, final track on their final album. A totally different vibe but SUCH BEAUTIFUL and profoundly touching lyrics by Neil.
I still remember the time Rush was playing a free concert, just 10 miles away from me. Nobody would give me a ride to go see them. It shall remain my greatest regret in life...
Why they are one of those the world’s greatest instrumentalist bands on earth. They have mastered it. Beautiful and fluid together. Can’t beat it. Masters of their profession and trade.
An incredible fact about Neil is that at the height of his greatness he went back into learning how to perfect his technique with Freddie Gruber. Amazing and astonishing. A multi-generational talent the likes of which will never be seen again. RIP Neil Peart.
We will never see their like again. Rush was the last of the epic bands. Three well-trained and expert musicians who were spot on together. Flawless. R.I.P. Neil Peart.
I Just found out Neil Peart died moments ago, and then found this video. Rush was one of the things that made it okay for me to be a little weird when I was a kid, and it's so wonderful to see this man's utter joy at what - even among the whitest of us white folks - is considered dreadfully uncool. I'm so glad you found Rush, and I'm glad to have found this video at this moment in time. Jamel_AKA_Jamal, thank you. Neil, shine on, you crazy diamond.
Keep telling yourself, it's only 3 guys making all that music. Listening to RUSH is fantastic!! BUT seeing them live.....well that's how you really get to appreciate what fantastic musicians they really are!
You gotta love this was played over 5k miles away from home (Rio de Janeiro 2003) for an audience in which half the people weren't born yet when this song was written (1980), in a country where Portuguese is the primary language, and these fans are singing along with an INSTRUMENTAL.
The story behind the live album/video that this is taken from is that it was raining when they got to Rio de Janeiro and they couldn't conduct a sound check. When they were done with the performance and planning the live album, they decided to roll with that. There are no overdubs on Rush in Rio; unlike most live albums, you're hearing what was actually played in concert. They also didn't filter out the crowd noise. I know some people that don't like the album because they think the crowd drowns out the songs. Personally, I love it. I wouldn't want every live album to sound like this, but Rush has plenty of other live albums, and this is a great change of pace.
Jamel you crack me up: "They ain't said a damn word!". 100%Rock and Roll. Thank you for playing these great songs..There is documentary about Rush that you might enjoy watching.
Exactly! If you were gonna do this song as a reaction, then pick one with the drum solo! arguably his best one would be the one in "Exit Stage Left"... My fav anyways...
