Russell Westbrook had his introductory press conference with the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday. L.A. is his fourth team in four years since winning the MVP in 2017. Russ was asked if he had anything left to prove and said quote:' I don't. I've been blessed and thankful to be in this league for so long..I've been able to impact people all across the world with this platform that's been given to me and I'll continue, obviously to win a championship..ultimate goal is to make sure we use what we have to impact those around you.' Marcellus Wiley and Emmanuel Acho react to his statement and discuss whether they agree with his current mindset or not.

Because he’s always thought of himself as more than what he is. Paul George is a good player when Russ played with him. He ran KD out of OKC with his stubbornness and not willing to take a backseat. I don’t agree with what KD did going to GS but Westbrook played a major role in running him outta town. He’s shown time and time again that his ceiling is the regular season and he played terrible in the playoffs dude to his low IQ plays and bad decision making in crunch time. He’s gotta prove he can play with Lebron now an player who controls the offense more just like him u like KD who doesn’t need the ball to be effective. If he’s the reason they don’t perform up to par next season then he’ll have to take a good look at himself in the mirror.

KD wasn’t considered the best player in the world when he was in OKC. Harden wasn’t considered one of the best shooting guards when he was in OKC. I don’t consider that team a super team because they were not all fully developed into the players they are today. Second, Durant’s rings came with the best shooter of all time: Curry and an allstar shooter in Klay with a great PF in Green. Durant hasn’t been able to lead a team in the Finals. So neither KD, Westbrook nor Harden has been able to do that.

KD was the MVP, Russ was All-NBA, Harden was 6moty, Ibaka was runner-up in DPOY and was block leader, and Sefolosha from 2011-2013 was one of the top 5 best 3 and D players in the league. Yes tf they were a super team.

GSW didn’t become a super team till KD made his decision other than that you can’t blame OKC & GSW for actually developing their talent. Y’all expected young OKC to beat the Miami Heat big 3 in the finals when the Heat were coming off of the 2011 meltdown? If OKC big 3 win a ring in 2012 they would’ve blown up the Miami big 3 & Bron’s legacy would be looking a lot different. Things happen for a reason.

KD in OKC was a bit different but they lost because both KD and Westbrook choked. I do have to remind people that before choking their lead they were looking like the best duo in a long time. That 2014 OKC was amazing and that was literally the beginning of Westbrook's peak. Had they stayed together they could have become even better but i think KD was frustrated with the amount of shots Westbrook took in close games and that Westbrook controlled the pace.

If you trade Malone for Pippen, Reggie Miller, or any other 1-3 man the Jazz would've been terrible lol what are you talking about. Right now if the Nets traded KD for Giannis, Embiid, AD, Jokic, Lebron, PG13, Tatum, Gobert, or Ayton then they'd STILL have top 3 odds in the division. You can't say that about the Bucks without Giannis. You can't say that about the Lakers without Lebron. You can't say that about the Cavs without Lebron.

They both make convincing points whether you agree or not.. my point of view is that Russ played a tough team in Miami and lost while he wasn’t the best player on his team even. He lost to a very good Golden State and he lost by himself on the Thunder to an extent. He lost with Harden on a team I’d argue was doomed from the start. The only time I’d say he’s at fault for the results in a series was playing with PG who I don’t trust as a costar. Russ is one of the few all time great players that hasn’t won’t a ring and I get it. His best chance was as a young player on a great OKC team and he ran into LeBron James in his prime

So yes he did have bad that series but he's also redeemed himself since then. He's shown us that that series was an anomaly for him. Also, drawing parallels to football and basketball doesn’t work because in the NBA the stars are on the floor most if not the whole game sometimes and there’s only 9 other guys on the court. In football you’re on the field about half the game with 21 other guys. In football only the quarterback has the ball ultra consistently. In basketball every Star has the ball in their hands most of the game. Basketball players are held to the ring standard because they’re heavily in control of the outcome more than any position in football other than quarterback. In some cases more so than a quarterback like LeBron or.. RUSS where they have the ball the whole game.

Here's why Westbrook doesn't need to prove he's at fault: It takes 11 players to win a championship. Period. The pundits and, by association, need a scapegoat when a team doesn't win. Russ is right when he says he has nothing to prove because if he wasn't Russell Westbrook, he wouldn't be wearing a Lakers uniform right now. Robert Horry has *SEVEN* championship rings. If we cannot personally credit Horry for being a part of those seven championship teams, we cannot hold Russ responsible for not yet being on a championship team.

@@mall31st56 Let's be real...Horry was never known for his defensive skills. He was a shooter--plain and simple--and no one asked him to do anything different. The Westbrook that played with Durant is not the same Westbrook we're seeing today. Westbrook and Beal were a good duo, but you knew they weren't going to win the East by the second game of the season. I'm looking forward to this Laker season, even more than I did when AD joined *because* of Westbrook. Why? Because Russ will have reliable and consistent options, unlike his days in Houston and DC. When he joined those teams, he knew going in he was going to have to backpack more often than not. This year, as long as AD can stay healthy, I think it's going to be a lot different and you are going to see a more team-oriented Russ.

Bruh Westbrook not getting a ring is on Westbrook no one else. Each start or superstar player he has played with have gone farther in the playoffs then he has when they split. Kd won chips, harden went to a game 7 in the conference finals against the warriors, Paul George just made it to the conference finals this past season, they all have played better on other teams then they did playing with Russ. Russ without harden, kd, or pg has been traded what 3 times or 4 times already lol like dang that's a problem if you a superstar. We can talk about all the regular season trip dubs all you want but come post season that's a different animal. Now you not playing different teams you play 1 team per series and those triple doubles don't happen often for him in the playoffs. Just look at the bucks. Both seasons Gianni's wins MVP, he flames out in the playoffs, this past season all be it it was lit with injuries, he didn't win MVP of the regular season but his team broke through and he won finals MVP. . Russ has played with 2 big 3s. Him kd, harden then him, pg, melo and only been out the first round 1 time with those big 3s. Kd won 2 chips with his next big 3. Lebron has won chips with all his big 3s. At some point Russ has to look in the mirror and say (what am I doing wrong?) Or (what do I have to improve on?) Him not getting out of the first round after kd left is on him.

Wiley tryna say the "audience " moved the goalposts. NO, NO, NO the MEDIA started this after jordan retired. They constantly pushed Jordan has 6. You've got to get more than him, (even though he doesn't have more than Russell), in order to be the goat. They also started the whole championship is a huge part if your legacy. This is what really caused the players creating their own super teams. The media, not the "audience " started this whole problem.

@@bigcliff_9898 That’s after he came back, I almost certain he wouldn’t have won jack if he stayed the first time. KD did what he had to do and I don’t think he would’ve won even if he stayed after that 2016 season with OKC. I don’t agree with the decision either but that 2016 decision was just the final straw of about 4 years of frustration with KD. Russ is stubborn and can’t take any criticism from anybody regarding changing his play style. Neither KD or the coaches could tell him anything because he’s always though of himself as the Alpha on a championship team when he’s actually more of a beta or gamma player.

With KD it could of been coaching they didn't tell Westbrook hey give KD the ball coaches act like they can't control Westbrook...I think okc could of won with better coaching they was young and had the talent but the coaching was key with young talent like that

I rarely agree with Marcellus but this time I agree. Westbrook has nothing to prove. Just go out, play hard and try to win a Championship. Do the right thing, Don't Force anything, Don't shoot 3s. Take high percentage shots and give the ball to LeBron or AD at the end when games are close. We will see what happens. 🙏

Excellent, he does have something to prove that it definitely ain’t gonna be his fault but the key to the Los Angeles Lakers this coming season is that LeBron and A.D. are healthy and the code to use low management on his two star players now that he has enough players where he can do that and he has rust that can go out and get his triple double when they’re not in the lineup that’s the key management and coach besides what you’re saying actual hundred percent right buddy wake up yeah man yeah clip a plan so you take what he says we’re all with a grain of salt

You can play a team game, but remember what Kobe said, No I in team, but there's an ME in that. Sometimes you can push and do as much as you can, but iffin the people around you ain't got it, ain't tryin, ain't going as fast as you are, then you ain't to blame. You did you to the best of your ability, but imo, one person shouldn't have to put that team on their back and carry them to success. Let him have his success, he ain't got nothing else to prove, and if he does, it's nobodies business.

KD is better now than he was in OKC. At least in playoff situations. That series with golden state where they lost 3 straight games would simply not happen now. He also is a better defender.
