@@NornIronMan.I apologise if that’s the impression that quote gave you. I can’t speak for Glenn (though I suspect he would agree), but I have zero problem with religious pluralism. I believe people should be free to worship even the gigantic spaghetti monster, if that’s what they so desire. However, I *do* have a problem with the new age / smorgasbord approach, which takes a dash of Hindu here, a chakra or two there, perhaps some ceremonial sex magic (in private of course)… Then to have the *audacity* to include Jesus in the mix. As if Jesus is just another dumpling in their spiritual stew. Look, I understand that people feel defensive about Russell Brand, and that the timing feels fishy, considering the anti-mainstream position he’s taken in recent years. And as a Christian, I agree that we are not to cast stones, for we are *all* sinners and have fallen short. But there’s a principality working behind the scenes of this situation, and it feels awfully familiar - I suspect it’s the same one that was at work in the Johnny Depp / Amber Heard situation. And interestingly enough, Brand has already resumed making content. I suppose the demonetisation might hurt. And if the allegations are true, jail won’t be much fun either. He just needs to leave Jesus out of it. Or ideally, have a genuine repentance and experience the only forgiveness that truly matters.

This was an intelligent critique of RB. I'm thankful you didn't launch into harsh criticism of RB's Gnostic ideas. I believe he's searching and leaning heavily in the direction of the God of the bible. Social media is chock full of critics and judges, we need more prayer warriors ushering men like RB Into the kingdom. The Holy Spirit is very much on the move in the lives of some hi-profile personalities with large followings. Even Joe Rogan seems to be warming up to Christ and the Christian world view. While RB is not in Jordan Petersons league , they both have more refined moral compasses then a whole heck of a lot of Christians. Besides, how many Christians have their theology in right biblical order or are walking the talk? Pray for these men. Their platforms can have a major impact toward drawing others to Christ . ~In His Grip Mukwonago Wisconsin

If RB hasn’t been in regular conversation with born-again believers and studying the Bible with them, I don’t fault him for interpreting “Father, forgive them …” with the lens of Eastern mysticism or some form of Buddhism. He seems to be open-minded and willing to learn because he’s inviting people to leave comments. My prayer is that during this time of personal crisis, RB can come to a true understanding of what it means to call Jesus Christ Lord and Savior. I also hope that RB and Spirit-filled Christians would cross paths. “…God our Savior…desires all people [including RB] to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth,” 1 Timothy 2.3-4 (ESV).

When he invokes Christ at the outset saying "they know not what they do" I understood that not to be in reference to his allegations so much as in reference to how media has become trapped in a pit of lies and how his attempts to shine a light on the truth has been met with such cynicism by the media but also by others. I think Glenn's attempt to detach the criminal and theological from the facts of what Russell has been doing on his podcast is not actually being very helpful.
@janeproctor5542
@janeproctor5542 8 месяцев назад
I believe the theological is inextricably tied very carefully to facts which are tied to an order which is tied to the good which is tied to the truest purposes of the "good" which is the foundation of order. The foundation of order is wisdom which instucts a person out of chaos and disorder which is the consequence of falling into a life ruled by addiction, in Brand's case, and its effects and consequences upon his own life and a host of other lives. The rule of law is purposed to maintain a separation or independence; an individual's right to freedom from the impingement of the consequences or deleterious effect(s) of people who either are so disordered that they do not care or will not care to concern themselves with the rights of others not to have their lives deleteriously effected by the disrespect or neglect of another person or persons. You cannot do away with the law without doing away with the principle of the purpose behind the law and if you do that , you are risking compromising the purpose of it which goes back to the foundation of what facts will be presented in a court of law if, indeed a case is brought before the court and a decision is made for or againt the plaintiffs. He will be the defendent whether he or a bunch of other people want him to be or not, unfortunately. This case horribly shows the danger of addiction, more than anything else, whether RB. can prove the sex was consensual or not..

Part of why we have statutes of limitations is BECAUSE of justice. Has someone changed, does the alleged victim remember correctly--these things matter. Our memories are not 100% and easily modified by suggestion. Tons of studies on memory and suggestion. I don't need to believe he was innocent or guilty because too much time has passed sadly. He says consensual, they say consensual but gross..this is only in the public because of politics. No one cares about the women. No one cares about reconciliation. People only care about nailing Brand since he was once one of them and is now bucking the system. If this was about women it would look very different.
@LHJC10
@LHJC10 9 месяцев назад
I disagree, someone commits a crime then justice should be served. Leaving a long time just erodes the quality of evidence and the integrity of a testimony. This case is different though as no charges have been laid; this is a trial by corporate media and their bed fellow advertising companies.

@topologyrob 9 месяцев назад
There are no such statutes of limitations on these crimes in the UK thank God - the trauma very often lasts a lifetime from these assaults. And they certainly do not say consensual - quite the opposite, and strongly supported by documented evidence (ie not just memory). Nothing whatever to do with 'bucking the system" - that's just the ultimate gaslighting.

Brand's identification of God-consciousness is a start and such an awareness can inform a Christian life. But you're right to identify Brand's ambiguous relationship with his past. We could say that our Indo-European religious past: the Vedic structure, the Marharbata, Homer's Iliad and even the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead were moral steps which accompanied mankind's development of consciousness: from living with the words of the tribe to the words of gods to discerning the demons among them from the word of Logos - a concept first enunciated by the Greek Heraclitus. Nothing wrong with knowing the steps of consciousness: attachment and detachment, stepping into a higher model of man, the judgement of works and so on. But in knowing these steps fully, a fully aware man has to make a choice of direction for his future. This isn't about playing with God-consciousness as if it's just a hill from which we get a better view. But it's about choosing one God, one Spirit and one direction leading into the unknown because it points to the best of the best: the transcendent realm of the Kingdom. It involves trials and sacrifice. It also involves rejecting those demons of the world and being guided by the "comforter", the one Logos according to the model of Christ called the Holy Spirit, towards salvation. There may have been a menu of gods in the past but not now. "I am the way, the truth, and the life" said Jesus, "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me".

When I was on my spiritual journey, gradually moving from being a secular atheist, to a buddhist, to being a Christian, and eventually a Catholic, I had to seek out authors who understood both eastern and western philosophy and also the current existential dilemma of the modern day atheist. This was particularly important when moving from Buddhism to Christianity. I found Bede Griffiths, Paul Tillich, Thomas Merton and Vladimir Lossky all provided a bridge from which to cross from eastern religion into Christianity. I’m sure these spiritual writings could help Russell Brand to cross this bridge to enter more deeply into true Christianity. I would highly suggest he avoids Fr. Richard Rohr who although deals with eastern and western religion, does the reverse, and helps existing Christian’s out of Christianity and eases them gradually into eastern religion.

Fascinating bit of commentary. Absolutely right on the matter of consent and the need for full repentance and the fact that we still have to fully face up to our past. Here's my angle (which differs marginally and is more favourable to Russell Brand). I am not asking, 'is Russell Brand a Christian?', but 'Is Russell Brand on the Way?'. There is a reason why the early believers called themselves 'the Way'. The answer to the first question is, probably not. The answer to the second is, maybe! Let me ask a few questions to illustrate my point. Was Reuben, who had gone into his father's concubine (Genesis 35:22) not still a hero when he saved Joseph from being killed (Gen 37)? Was Judah, who went into his own daughter in law, thinking she was a prostitute (Gen 38) not still a hero when he, in a Christlike way, volunteered to be imprisoned to set his younger brother free (Gen 44)? Did Rahab have all her theological ducks in a row when she, by faith, sheltered the Israelite spies (Hebrews 11:31)? Were the four lepers who saved Jerusalem from starvation faithful, worshipping Israelites (2Kings 7)? Had the Samaritan woman been through a process of deep repentance and restoration of trust with all the people she had sinned against before she began to tell all the people of her town about Jesus? (John 4)? How did the dirtbag Samson find his way into the list of heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11 (see verse 32)? And did Jesus check out the theological stance of the paralysed man (Luke 5:20) or the sinful woman (Luke 7:42) before he pronounced that their sins were forgiven? My point here is that all of these people were commended for their heroism, courage and faith when there were plenty of more respectable people and orthodox believers around them who were not. In Russell Brand I am seeing a level of courage in challenging some deep wickedness among those in power that I don't see among more conventional Christians, such as the MP Tim Farron, who are deafeningly silent.

Yes, all of us on the journey, know it’s a journey. I would praise anyone for identifying with Christs suffering on the cross, and following his example of forgiveness when wrongfully persecuted. I suppose the question is “ is he wrongfully accused”. It’s up to Russell Brand to look inside himself with Christs help to see the answer to this. It’s admirable that he is feeling Christs pain in one context, but he is only half way there at the moment. He hasn’t yet realised that he, Russell Brand and his sin are the reason Christ is suffering on the Cross. Gods grace will almost certainly take him there, and whenGod does this, I’m sure we will see a tearful Russell Brand telling us how much he loves Jesus who has saved him.

Anyone trying to judge Russel’s salvation needs to read again. There were two criminals on each side of Christ when he was crucified. In the last moments, one became saved. It didn’t take years of conversations with people who have absorbed dogma or studied on their own. It was a personal moment of honesty. God can use anyone to do good with. Throwing stones and accusations or judging him makes you as bad as Saul before Jesus had a talk with him. Get it?

If it's indirectly self serving, and he instead is making a greater point, then it's legitimate to bring it up. Siddhartha Buddha never called himself “lord”. In fact, as it says the rocks shall cry out if these be silent, the rock carvings of Ajanta and Ellora in western India, the oldest of which were Buddhist, there is no depiction of Buddha in stone. There’s none. Only after the arrival of St Thomas on Indian shores with the Good News of Incarnation, that in the following decades and centuries this had inspired the indigenisation of the Christian ideas transforming and expressing it in Indian idiom. This was when Buddha was suddenly seen as some kind of divine figure and nee fables and adaptation of Christian teachings to Buddhism began to emerge. These stories have eventually become the basis of modern day Buddhism and marketed around the world and especially in the west. And with this familiar ring to it, people in the west easily fall for Buddhism. In fact, this sort of development has occurred in hinduism too.

I’m an Atheist, but what I have gathered from Russell Brand’s Religious Beliefs is, he believes in God. If God is God & if God is Good, wouldn’t God work through everyone and wouldn’t all enlightenment, even non-Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, etc. be expressions of God’s greatness, possibly interpreted differently by different cultures? ie. Can actual Divinity be limited to only one group’s beliefs, when the underlying base message is so similar. If you truly believe God works in mysterious ways, isn’t it possible, people are all worshiping the same transcendent figure in different ways and context? Jesus in the New Testament aligns more with Eastern philosophies than the Old Testament. If God is all, isn’t all God?

To the best he is able to comprehend, whether he is a naive, newer Christian or not one at all, I don’t think that he is doing that. I think that he is showing respect for the Christian faith, not trying to subvert it. That’s all that matters.

I feel from listening to you speak that you haven't really listened to Russell Brand much and are just basing your points (some of which are generally accurate) on what you've quickly googled about him online.

Great critique without judging! God is on the move in some high profile social media personalities lives. Russel may still be displaying gnostic ideas but i believe he is searching and moving in Jesus direction..the thing that will get him on the right track the fastest is for mature Christians to pray for him not bash and trash his theology as though by now he ought to be mature. The measure used to judge another is the measure that will be used to judge us. You self righteous trashers and bashers commenting below make me sick. By your words and attitudes i can see you are far from Jesus. Beware, before long RB will be soaring high above you..already his sense of right and wrong are more keenly tuned then a vast number of Christians. RB is reading his bible and C.S.Lewis. he's wearing a cross not a buddah pendant. Social media is a cesspool of critics and know it alls. Christian warriors should be controlling the atmosphere and praying people into Gods kingdom. Be part of the solution. Pointing out the faults of others is going to get you into deep spiritual hot water. ~In His Grip

It's compromise, plain and simple. I'm not saying that Russell doesn't believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but he is compromising in that he also believes that we can be gods; any way you interpret it, that is false religion. I listen to Russel Brand for his political views and general worldview. He seems to be right on concerning these subjects. Unfortunately, these views will not save his soul. I agree with Glen."

In the mystical interpretation, I can see your point. This is not a 'who can be the most christian' game, it's a 'look to the actual historical cross see what God is actually like' situation

God let us take the responsibility of a one night stand. We take our feelings into account. I think jesus said that because he understand hell as much as the god or statin. The Jewish people saw him walk on water. Then we read jesus met the demon they said have you come to punishes us early. No other god other than me. He wrote it down through a man hand and mind in the bible. Lest we forget

He is still doing tarrot cards .i am not at all convinced he is saved.there is no real gospel in what he says .like how he was a sinner then repented of his sins and trusted in Christ.that is the only way to get saved really.

Why don’t you find something else to talk about. I think it would be much more beneficial. If Russell Brand is sincerely, considering a change in his life and actually considering Christ as his savior, of course he will make mistakes as all new Christians do. It certainly is not helpful for you to produce a video critiquing every single word he says about this New path that he seems to be taking. Better to just back off and pray for him.

Fair play to you for calling-out Russell Brand for trying to portray himself as a Christian all of a sudden. I do not trust anything the pathetic little fellow utters. Brand is a narcissist and has not a single religious bone in his body. Brand is playing to the crowd. He has promoted the worst kind of popular, unfounded conspiracy nonsense. Brand is trying to present himself as something he is not when he talks about Jesus. Our Heavenly Father can see right through Brand's tactics, no matter what we discuss here today.

The conspiracy nonsense is probably not nonsense. I am open minded about his guilt or innocence. I agree that a New Age slant on Christianity is likely indicative of gross error (Spurgeon said that discernment isn’t knowing the difference between right and right, but right and almost right…)

@@markgadsby5568 Sometimes what we see is clouded by our own bias. I have been aware of Brand's stylings for many years. I do not find him funny. I do not like his acting choices. His unqualified hypotheses are targeted at the uninformed and he exploits this. Having said all this, he may well be innocent of the accusations laid against him. Who am I to judge? Suffice to say, I will not be disappointed or surprised by a guilty verdict. At the very least we can rest assured that other people will not suffer at his hands and the survivors can more on. If you like conspiracies, look elsewhere, Brand adds nothing new. In lies, there is always a slither of some truth.

I think in the end it was more about complicity than blinkered tribalism. By the time Brand moved his operation online he was no longer accepted in the UK media tribe. Nobody would work with him because he was a known predator and a liability. I assume many just wanted him to go away, rather than reckoning with their history of enablement.

How about a little grace to a man who is earnestly seeking truth? A man who had a life that MANY would kill for, yet he turned away, openly defying the "cabal" that gave him fame and fortune, suffering attacks that most of us could never endure, and now he is being scrutinized by the very people who should be joyful at his awakening. This reeks of Calvinist doctrine and their usual "fruit inspection". We ALL walk different paths for the Holy Spirit to do His work. Trust in Him. Right now, Brand needs grace and understanding from the Christian community. He's still drinking milk, but I believe our Lord will be feeding him meat in no time.
