What I love about Russel Morris is the fact that years later, his voice is still great and he does not slow his songs down when singing live. Nothing pisses me off more when a great song is dragged out by a great singer. Just because they are old and slow doesn't meen that we are when we are their vintage !
Saw Russell live a couple of months ago and I swear, this guy gets better every year :) Every time I need a lift I play this song as loud as I can, works every time. Thanks Russell
I have followed and loved you and your music all my life. My house burned down last Sunday and this song, this song... it just popped up on my computer while I was searching for some sort of meaning to my life. Thank you Russell. Thank you so much.
As a photographer I had a corporate event to shoot. The entertainment was Russell Morris, James Reyne, Richard Clapton and Joe Camalleri. The young people in the room had no idea who they were. The older people went off and danced the night away. I got paid to be there Yi HA!.
That was a good job Anthony! The Young People wouldn't have had any idea, but hopefully they appreciated Real Talent in front of them. Sounded like a Great Lineup. Russell and the Boys were Great.
The great music of that era is being heard by the youth thanks to You Tube and so on. More needs to be done to let them appreciate how great it was and who were the best talent from Australia's past and that they would out perform any Oz artist I have heard pretty much since 1995
This song has always touched my heart more than any other. This rendition is truly soulful Russell Morris if you see this - I would want nothing more for you to sing this on accoustic at the close of my funeral service. It would mean a lot. I'm not morbid, I'm not sick. I hope my family reads this..
Russel you are a great singer and so is the guy who play's the guitar and the drummer. Great trio. Love it, love it, love it. Hope you keep going for many more years.
Shared the stage with Russell in Nelson, NZ way back last century sometime. He had a fantastic voice then and a lot more hair. Still got a superb voice. This is one of his best songs ever.
This is what real talent sounds like. None of your crap from The Voice or Australia No Longer has Talent will be around for years because they won't do the hard work. Great stuff Russell. Just legendary.
I think they do the hard work but the production companies decide. These guys like Russel had poetic licence and were actually attributed for their creative talent..the production companies now just want to churn out robotic sounds that mesmerized the young. My girls 34 and 35 know my music and love it
I introduced my daughter to the real thing many years ago.. around the same time I found an album in a $10 bin with real thing on it. I gave it to my daughter who 15years later still has it as a fave album.. wings real thing swet swet love are all songs we sing loud around the house n her friends think we are nuts with strange music. Cant get music as beautiful n as well written as this now days. My daughter is now 21. My 11yo is now loving russel music. thanks.
So am I - 53 that is...listening to Russell Morris and Brian Cadd puts me back 40 years and makes you thankful for such great Aussie rockers. Life passes too fast, 40 years on. Not in high school anymore!
No matter how often Russell sings a song he puts his heart and soul into it every time, and that's what makes him such a great performer. I'll love him forever.
I was fortunate enough to open for Russell at the London Tavern in Melbourne in 1983. Unfortunately at the time I didn't really understand or appreciate how incredible a singer songwriter he actually was. Thanks for posting.
I very much like Peter Robinson's guitar playing - looked him up and was surprised to see him playing a meaty sounding Les Paul in a band called Electric Mary. Very different to this but seemingly great band reviews from their Euro tours - and have supported visiting artist here for 20 years
One of the best singer/songwriters, if not the best, we've seen in OZ....and still going. I think I saw Russell perform in every pub in Melbourne in the 80s. Always a great live sound.
Sitting in my backyard listening to this fantastic song - have seen russell live many times over decades...a brilliant musician - 2 wedgetail eagles circling over my congo home...amazing.
I have been a fan since 1969 LOL (I am old..53). Russell is a true muscian, singer and songwriter...and I am off to see him live along with Brian Cadd in Launceston in a few weeks! I first saw him live in 1975...he is fantastic and has gotten better with age and time!!!
I toured with Russell many many years ago. I was in the Musician's pit - he was Riff Raff on stage in "The Rocky Horror Stage Show". He did a really good job of that role as I recall. He still looks pretty good too!
Good on you cobber..that's a story I like to hear. It's amazing that two acoustic guitars and three harmonies can produce something that leaves the listener hardly robbed of any sweet memories of the original.
Oh I am forever listening to great music by legendary Aussie rockers and most music from the 70's by any band...keeps me feeling young it does :-). Yeah you are right about the last 40 years going way too fast..were in the heck did it go? BTW..Russell and Brian have only gotten better with age if you ask me..they sang and performed brilliantly!!!
I haven't heard this for years! Thanks so much for posting it cause I still sing parts of it (very badly Lol). Now I can learn the whole song. Russell's still fantastic.
Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about...REAL music written and performed by a legend of Australian music. Russell sounds better now than he did in the early 70's.
Lyrics I grew up with.....just so much a part of your life - I recently watched "searching for sugarman"...Rodriguez and the cold fact albulm shaped who I am there are so many artists today without a message - for the next generation. so pleased to accompany my 28 year old son to a concert in Brisbane on April fools day to audience a seventy -year old WOW - GOOD MUSIC NEVER DIES
I had the pleasure of meeting Russell in Ballarat on saturday.12th Oct 2013. Told him .. 'he got me through some hard times... withought thinking he put his arm around me and said " thanks my friend .. thats why I write the music".. Gentleman..
His voice seems to have improved since the 70's ..i missed one his gigs 3 year ago on Halloween night near Brighten Beach..i should have gone..love this guy..he's an aussie treasure..
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
