One of the few singers who really understand this song. It's been covered by numerous classical singers, but they all make the mistake of treating it as an operatic song, to be sung in operatic style. It then loses all meaning, because it's really a pop song with operatic overtones. Watson captures the meaning of Lucio Dalla's original (still the best version, and probably unbeatable), its sensitivity and melancholic feel, and really does it justice. Brilliant!
Russell your voice continues to bring magic into our hearts. Thank you for singing at our Good Morning America Wedding in NY Times Square. On June 22, 2016 we will celebrate our wedding anniversary and listen you your beautiful voice again.
Agree with all the comments below. I've played Russell's version over and over and have worn my CD out hence here listening to it on here. Beautiful, romantic and passionate.
My favourite too. I think he is the only version that starts of very softly. Although I love Pavarotti there is a gentleness in this version that I adore. I have on cd and play over and over again.
