@MS-lk4xc It didn't contain immediate ceasefire. It declared the urgency a ceasefire for hostage release only. It didn't order an end of military actions in Rafa, etc. Israel could continue the ethnic cleansing, genocide as they want. There were no any guarantees against that in the text. It was only a US trick with a misleading title.

The reason why this resolution was not adopted is because it does not call for a ceasefire again the actual draft DOES not call for ceasefire it calls for actions and negotiations impeding a lasting ceasefire if all hostages are released. And the draft is different than what they have publicizing.
I read through a list of all of the times a vote at the UN Security Council was vetoed and this may be the first time in the history of the UN where the veto was justified. And seriously, when China and Russia calls you out for human rights violations, you need to sit down and have a good, hard look at yourself
Russia and China are only doing it for political points, so as to not agree with the US. Not agreeing only hurts Gaza, not Israel. Gaza will likely be bulldozed because of this veto.
I have made a complaint to the BBC for misreporting and spreading lies by not immediately stating the true reasons given by the Russian and Chinese ambassadors to veto US resolution was because it was ineffective and inadequate as it did not demand an immediate ceasefire. I suggest others do the same.
It was, but then the US floated a sham resolution, which did not, in fact, call for a ceasefire, but did include a list of pre-conditions which they were well aware would cause multiple SC members to shoot it down. So technically, they arranged a "surrogate veto."

1 - this resolution did nothing to call for a ceasefire, so saying Russia and China blocked a ceasefire is entirely wrong. 2 - Russia specifically said they wouldn't accept a resolution that didnt call for an immediate lasting ceasefire, and so didn't vote for this. Maybe we'd know that if you showed more than only the US ambassador.

Saturday, a new resolution by the non permanent members will be put on the table. It apparently (take that one with a grain of salt) only contains 10 lines and straightforward ask for a ceasefire, not an imperative to one Also, do you think anyone up there cares? As an American, I literally groaned when I heard our UN ambassador try to take some higher moral ground and scold for not supporting a supposed ceasefire resolution. 8 months to elections is the only reason this is happening.

you must be illiterate. no where in the resolution did the usa call for a ceasefire. it said that a ceasefire was important for peace and the us would support the process to a temporary ceasefire (which is not a call for an immediate ceasefire). the resolution paves the way for israel to blame hamas for a failed ceasefire and to continue its genocidal campaign in gaza.

The US Document DID NOT call for an immediate ceasefire. It stated that a ceasefire is imperative and calls on the UNSC to support the ongoing negotiations in Doha. That is a long way from calling for a ceasefire your the phrasing of your reporting is a best disingenuous and at worst flat out lying on behalf of the US. Also the Us representative has the brass neck to call out Russia and China falsely stating that they did not condemn the Hamas attack on Israel when the US not only fails to condemn the atrocities committed against innocent Palestinian civilians but is funding, arming and diplomatically protecting the state of Israel who are carrying out these atrocities.
