RUSSIA BANS STUDENT EXCHANGE

In this video, I will tell you about how Russia is prohibiting its youth from participating in exchange studies in the USA. Initially, Putin banned the FLEX program in 2015. In March 2024, Putin declared all American student exchange programs as "undesirable organizations," thereby ending 30 years of student exchange between the USA and Russia. In this video, I will explain why Putin did this and how it will affect me as a former participant in the Year of Exchange in America for Russians Program.

So sickening. Ruining young people's lives (while sending their own kids abroad for decades) and then preventing them to check out anything else in the world which would show them just how rotten conditions in their home country are. Stay safe, Zack!

And all this must be tolarised in the name of democracy, instead of forcing them to leave our country and other European countries. A scandal, and their parents are now deeply involved in the aggression in Ukraine and the suppression of freedom in Russia!

Zack you have made some excellent points. Russians should be proud of you. Because of your participation in cultural exchange, study abroad, and hard work learning a foreign language, you can now speak to and be a bridge to both sides. Americans also will hear a Russian voice and learn the truth about modern Russia, more honest than from Sergei Lavrov!

U.S. here. I just discovered your RU-vid channel! Thank you for posting this! Very informative. I'm 74 and remember the Cold War, remember the Hungarian Revolution and the Prague Spring protests in what was then Czechoslovakia. I remember when we began exchanges, remember Glastnost, remember the protests all over eastern Europe, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and all the young people like you leading the way. I was in Berlin less than a year after the wall fell for business, and just before I left, was able to take a cab to the Brandenberg Gate. I - along with many others - was walking back and forth from what had been West Germany into what had been East Germany and back again. I started crying. Because I remembered as a kid reading an article right after the wall was built about a young person who ran across that general area trying to get to the West and got shot. He died. It made me cry remembering that. The cabbie was from East Berlin and spoke Russian. As I headed back to the cab, I saw he was standing against the cab watching me, and HE was crying. I had such hope for Russians then. That awful man took it away from you all. You deserve so much better. My heartfelt hope and love goes out to you and all Russians who are trying to navigate and change an extremely difficult and dangerous situation. It is people like you who change the world! Stay safe! 🙏💙💪

Hi Zack. This was very informative, thanks. I’ve subscribed to your channel. I’m an American who was able to visit Asia for 3 months through a college program and it was such a great experience. That was decades ago. But I’d always been curious about the Russian language and alphabet and about 4 years ago found a great RU-vid channel by a fun smart Russian teacher of English and I and others from all over world would watch and join in her live streams. I then joined other Russian RU-vid streams, attended many (many) virtual events around St Pete and Moscow and loved all of it, it was very fun. I know Nevsky Prospect in St Pete better than many Russians :) I started to lose my joy after watching the devastation in Ukraine (that teacher like many Russians also had close friends and colleagues in Ukraine), and now I have a close female online friend in Chernihiv. From that I know the real personal impact of this war, and hear air raid alerts in her background routinely. You’ve touched on something that most Russians will never know was lost but I do, I and those in world in those chats who felt such joy in connecting, learning, and then often stopped feeling the joy, not because we had to or were told by US government not to but because we felt a disconnect. I visited another RU-vid channel in Russia recently and liked the guy and his sharing of his personal life and town but many American fans commenting there act like they’ve just discovered Russia and our U.S. government is evil and they are very anti supporting Ukraine 🇺🇦 and it’s snarky and all the joy is gone from it and I’ve had to unfollow. Much ❤ and good luck on your journey :) The Russian people have lost so much from this war, that they don’t realize.

Why doesn’t he organise an exchange program the other direction for American ‘conservatives’ who have good grades (there’s got to be one or two!😂) so they can live with your average Russian host family and experience the wonders of ‘traditional’ values in Russia with none of that woke nonsense they’re always whining about. My Dad said that English *IS* the global language of commerce. It's surely taken quite a hit as such in Russia but commerce doesn't stop. For example, I suspect that English may still be used in the trade going on between Russia and China. Many Chinese used to learn Russian but since the opening of China in 1979, English has become the favorite. It's been 45 years, more than a generation ago so people who knew Russian might have already "aged out" of an international life.

In the Russian spirit, I'd expect that mostly the privileged kids would be able to take advantage of such programs for a number of reasons. Personally I think that the West should have closed down the "exchange" programs already at the beginning of the war. And yes, there will be collateral damage, but there is actually a war going on. The apathetic Russian people has turned themselves into "guilty, until proven innocent".

The U.S.A. is nearly always at war so shutting things down for war is usually quite rare. The U.S.A. shut down conscription in favor of an all-volunteer professional army. I myself was thus a member of a cohort of rarity in the U.S.A. -- useless-to-the-military youth in Deténte.

We'll never be healthy, when we live by fear. Either personal, societal or of other countries. So many people, all over the world plus the UK and US love Russia and want to visit it even now. Real education is reciprocal, it's freeing and a powerful tool for good. A soul searching piece of work Zack. We look for peace. I pray more Russians will some day know this truth, for a fact! ❤
