I dont want to get my hopes up. Regardless whether Chuck is right or not, Ukraine needs more support. We need to focus on increasing our support to Ukraine to finish this war quicker
True, but u have to admit this is unfolding in a bizarre way for a "near peer" military. And beside more support Ukraine needs more timely support. Had certain supplies arrived sooner, they might have lost less territory this year
Brilliant presentation, men. I was the oldest male in my family and the only one eligible to go to Vietnam. I was in college and had good grades, which protected me from the first draft notice I received. My lottery number was 196 and just before Thanksgiving, they called up everyone 187 and lower. I was sure that I was going to be called up if they pulled in the next round since I was only 9 numbers above the last cutoff point. I forgot to say that as a freshman, I was in Army ROTC. I quit ROTC because I could see that the US military had no plan to win. My buddies that had gone to Vietnam came home either tucked up or in bags. My dad was a senior in college in 1941 and enlisted in the USN on Monday, December 8th. He and I had vastly different perspectives on fighting in the US military. At Thanksgiving dinner, Dad commented that it looked like I would be packing my bags soon. I simply said, "Yes." He said I had to do what I had to do and I said, "Yes, I know." We lived in Washington and owned 50 acres in B.C. I told Dad that I would be OK in Canada. That cost me about 35-40 years with my dad. Chuck, thanks for saying what you said at the end of your presentation. It was what I knew about Vietnam. Dad could not see that Vietnam was not the same as WWII. I would willingly fight for my country, Vietnam was not that. At 73, I a very fortunate to look, feel, and act like I'm a health 60 year old. I'm in the process of moving to a farm I bought 3 years ago. I'm writing this to you from that farm right now. It is beautiful here right now in Älgered, Sverige, about 3 hours north of Stockholm. Not going to Vietnam cost me a lot. Dad and I had 10 good years before he died. Taking the risk of living my truth made all the difference. I'm now watching the war in Ukraine from my farm in NATO's newest member. That's a win. Thanks for what you said, Chuck. We still do not know what Putin will do, but I'm still willing and able to stand up and fight for what is right.
good on ya. many americans who preach that russians conscripts should just refuse to serve would never suggest an american do the same, but the US has mounted some very unjustified operations itself. for my generation it was iraq. had there been a draft that i was called upon for that, i absolutely would have flatly refused.
Sorry you left BC. The Americans who came up during that period were less likely to commit crimes, take welfare, raise bad kids than any other immigrants but I’m glad you’re happy.
Is that all it cost you? No, someone else went in your place to Vietnam. You can't wash away what you did. I served in VN, maybe it was me that took your place. I was stationed at McCord before I went to Da Nang in '68.
and as a caveat I saw a photo of a disabled T-55 with a cope cage with its tracks blown out due to mines somewhere in Ukraine, and it still had markings denoting it was deployed to Hungary during the 1956 revolution. its that bad.
@@SuperRede4u Any other country would have given up and withdrawn their forces by now. I suppose this will happen only when Puttler has gone to happy hunting grounds or maybe fallen out of a window.
@@oisinocRussian television said the war would be over in weeks, Russian High command where told, The Ukrainians would throw flowers at their tank's as they entered Kiev, They got that wrong 😊
I totally agree mate. I like listening to them speak because they tell it like it is. Most of the western mainstream media tell us nothing about what's really happening.
@@dmitrinizovtsev3550 They never say Ukraine is winning, in fact, they're often pointing out what we already know...that Russia isn't winning this war. They've taken 24 kilometers in the last two years at huge costs in equipment and orcs. You could look at that as a win for Ukraine.
There seems to be a myth that once the corruption in the Russian military was exposed, it was fixed. The reality is that knowing about corruption and fixing the corruption are two very different things.
Russian corruption ,,, was and is ,,, the furthest thing from a secret . E V E R Y B O D Y has known all about it... it is the core of russian society .
Many decades under Soviet rule the Russian people knew there was corruption every time they spent their lunch hour lining up for groceries while certain privileged party members weren't required to do that. But nothing ever changed even if everyone knew there was corruption.
Mr. Pfarrer's comments are always welcome and IMO desparately needed on western MSM channels... his analysis of operational logistics are spot-on. Thank you Kyiv Post/Jason for your wonderful programming... please continue and amp-up your efforts such that hopefully soon we will read KP verbiage in our local newspapers... it seems to me AP News has a stranglehold on most newsrooms here and AP seems heavily biased in RU's favour... regurgitating TASS discord. From Ontario, Canada... no negotiations until Ukraine says so... Slava Ukraini!
I suspect they lost any meaningful night vision in the first year. I don't expect any of those T-55 being pulled out of storage to have functioning night vision. And without intensive training effectively fighting at night is impossible. Even the US slows things down at night to prevent fratricide.
Good review, the Ukrainians are doing their best but the West still isn’t supporting them enough to win this war and it’s frustrating and disappointing 😞
Chuck's book "Warrior Soul" is a favorite -- so well written. I live not far from the Beirut Memorial, his perspective on the '83 attack lends immediacy to that tragic event. Good to see an honest soul still on the case, regarding history as it unfolds.
Nostradamus of elections; "90% Lichtman," the professor who's predicted past 9/10 presidents' elections, says Democrats have this election, if there's little Democrat in fighting! 💙 Vote blue! Kamala Harris for 🇺🇦💙
Fantastic interview... Please have Chuck on again... He is so knowledgeable... Keep up the great work... Your interview was so good I had to watch It twice... Thank you... ✌️😎🎸.......
Morale of the only true metric of how the army’s faring. Poor morale is indicative of everybody knows that things are bad. It’s not something you can buy and it’s not something you can fake.
They couldn't take Kiev when they had a "complete army". So they sure are not going to take anything of significance with 65% of their "professional" army gone.
They will never admit this, but there were a bunch of American Teir 1 operators on the ground when it all kicked off and thankfully so. I'm sure it gave them so much morale to feel backed up by the best of the best, even if it was just logistics, command/control, and training, which I'm sure it wasn't just that. That's why they immediately created the foreign legion. It's a grey area.
@hankhaney3785 There's a RU-vid channel that showed it related to the seal community. You can go find it. The US knew well in advance and had assets to assist. Hold up, let me get their MOS and callsign for you. Lol. It's not hard to find bud.
@@saulgood6909 ...yes, ready to assist the evacuation of Zelenskyy and his govt., so Vlad would have an easier time. Not saying our Seals are corrupt, but the dem party govt. is definitely....and Seals are "just following orders".
Chuck usually nails it. As a former US army special forces soldier, with Viet Nam combat experience, I can agree with his assessments and observations. I would add that one of the most important traits of military leadership is initiative. Not only at the command level, but at every level. There has to be a combat climate where initiative is encouraged and not stifled not in the private or the Colonel.
@@williamwaters4506 Hogwash. Russia fought no countries, the USSR did, and it was Belarus and Ukraine that had the highest percentage of deaths in that war. I just wish you people would stop saying Russia won the war in the East.
@@briangriffiths937 Not only did the Soviets win the war in the East, they killed more Nazis than all the rest of the allies put together. Not only did the Soviets win the war in the East, it's debatable that they may have done so without US lend-lease aid. As for your know nothing, idiot assertion, that Ukraine and Belarus had the highest percentage of deaths in WWII, Russia lost 6,750,000 soldiers, Ukraine 1,650,000 and Belarus 620,000. That means the combined losses of Ukraine and Belarus are a third of what Russia lost.
Makes me wonder how well the tail end of the Brave Sir Robin song lyrics would translate into Russian. _Brave Sir Robin ran away._ _Bravely ran away away._ _When danger reared it's ugly head,_ _He bravely turned his tail and fled._ _Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about_ _And gallantly he chickened out._ _Swiftly taking to his feet,_ _He beat a very brave retreat._ _Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!_
Unfortunately for Ukraine, Putin's Ho Chi Minh Trail into their country is effective at getting troops and ammo to the front. This is due to the well-oiled Russian system of moving people into their widely dispersed prison system. The US by now should have a lot of ideas about how to give a Ho Chi Minh Trail a hard time.
well the last time the Russians deployed the T-55 , 54 in large numbers was during the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. And as I recall during the 80s, the Soviet army did not field the T-55 and T-54s they gave these tanks to their client states, the Soviets units deployed in Afghanistan category C units from Central Asia used T-62s, they gave T-55s to their allied puppet Afghan National army, if during a war the Soviet army starts fielding T-55s in large numbers , then it would be scraping the bottom of the barrell and their front line Category A B and C units have been decimated. Yep same thing is happening to Russia the successor state to teh USSR in this war. The Russians are losing this war.
So what if Russia is using T54s? So are the Ukrainians. Not only that, Ukraine is employing weapons substantially older than that. Ukraine has 35,000 ex Soviet, Maxim PM1910 water cooled heavy machine guns employed, in the defence of it's homeland. These are over a hundred years old, were used by the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and still have great utility today. Russia is not losing this war. It's just a lot more expensive than Putin may have planned for. Russia is not going to give up any of the territory it's payed so much to acquire and Ukraine is never going to have the strength to push them out.
Very interesting commentary. Too often we only see the short clips. Who took what ground, where. Who lost what equipment. So getting this more nuanced assessment puts things into perspective.
"If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail." Russia had no plan other than to walk in and claim victory on the assumption that Ukraine would fold in a few days.
the Ukraine war is much worse than the American experience in Vietnam, true we lost the war in Vietnam however we won most battles. Russia has lost many battles in the Ukraine war and the war is a bloody stalemate. with the Russians losing 550K casualties so far, in 2.5 years of war. USA lost 360K casualties in Vietnam from 1964 to 1972. 8 years of war. and I think by the time this war ends, the Russians will probably lose more than 1 million Casualties. and lose the war, that will have much worse effects on its society than the Vietnam war had on the USA society. The last time the Russians lost a major war was the Soviet Afghan war of the 80s and you can say they lost the cold war, the USSR broke up. Same will happen to the Russian federation.
@@johnwalsh4857 so why did this guy full year ago on this same chanel told us Russia lost and ewe will be already over? Crimea back in Ukrainian hands?
Cuck Pfarrer is awesome!! I support all that johnwalsh4857 said, just want to comment on public perception of stalemate. Stalemate? Four fronts: Sea, Land, Air, Infiltration (cyber, media, control of politics, social and economy, and replace Ukrainians with Russians). Yesterday, Russia pulled back all ships from the Azov Sea. Russia is totally defeated at sea. Done. No one talks of this, at all. Air = drones, jets, missiles, rockets, artillery. This week, Ukrainians fired a wooden stick at an advanced Russian drone that was caught up in the propeller and brought it down. There you go. Iraq war showed that it is all air, then send in some troops to hold down surrendered territory. I think 90% of the casualties in Ukraine are from air power, not clashing ground fire. Russia has lots of meat for the grinder, so they are sending in waves of bodies, just like both sides of WWI. So, they are creating fronts in east Ukraine, Ukrainians have to react, outnumbered. Russia's strategy is to overwhelm their opponent, in everything. Only thing they can do because they have no strategy or know how to coordinate fighting, everything is abysmal. No quality to your game, use quantity. Constantly give their enemy more than they can handle, might eventually fold. WWII, millions of Soviet soldiers died this way. Russia knows it's a lost cause for the troops, but it overwhelms the Ukrainians. Not a stalemate, just Putin buying time until Nov. 5. But Ukrainians know the Russians are coming to replace them and are fighting for their very existence. Russia knows Americans and media can only understand WWII, MASH, Vietnam style war, boots on the ground, square inches of territory, maps, scorecards. It's how they play football, not futbol/soccer. You'd think the Iraq wars would have changed that. 20 years from now, it will be A.I. robots as boots on the ground. Ukrainians invented a remote stretcher that on wheels goes out to a wounded soldier, he rolls on, and it brings him back to his side. They designed a tank that goes 60 mph on the highway and floats in water. Ukrainian made Neptune cruise missiles. $5,000 wax cardboard Australian drone damages a Russian destroyer. The Russians are exploiting what little Americans know or have been incorrectly taught/told. Haley was right, "If Ukraine was given everything they were promised, this war would be over by now." Russian nukes are probably just like its military - dysfunctional. If they work, most would probably land in Russia if launched. Take off the handcuffs and like Churchill said, "Give us the tools and we will win."
Why don't you count Southern Vietnam casualties? That was the US ally. You are a liar, Southern Vietnamese casualties are 2.5 mln solders. Eat this and stop lying.
I suspect Putin didn't have a better plan because he underestimated Ukraine, the West, and the USA. He didn't think he needed one. That kind of arrogance cancels out any competence Russia may have had. Most of that competence died at the Ghostomel airport and drive on Kyiv.
APC is sold by the military industrial complex as an “Armored Personnel Carrier “. But us veterans and soldiers know it really means “Army Personnel Crematorium”!
Ive actually heard these T-55s and T-62s being fielded as front line tanks and also as artillery, I think it more of deploy the tanks that you have on hand, so if they need tanks and they only have 55s and 62s well , these are the tanks you deploy. and as artillery , they suck, very inaccurate, noting that many of tehir 100mm and 115 mm ammo is defective and old.
WW2.. Ukraine - no change in Soviet tactics? So many Soviet attacks in WW2 were also carried out 1) with masses of semi-armed infantry shouting and screaming as they charged German machine guns, to be slaughtered; 2) in daylight, 3) no smokescreen shells fired first 4) near-zero artillery support till 1944.
The Russians are also the best donors of Tanks and APCs to the Ukrainians having abandoned several hundred top of the line tanks and APCs in 2022. heck at Izyum alone in Late 2022 as Igor Girkin said, the Russians lost 450 tanks and APCs mostly abandoned , the largest loss of tanks by the Russians since Kursk 1943, mostly abandoned intact....all the Ukrainians had to do was use tractors to recover them, some repairs and fuel then reuse them vs. the Russians, in fact many of these captured Russian tanks and APCs in 2022 are still in use now. So I encourage the Russians to please be more generous and abandon more tanks and APCs for the Ukrainians to reuse and abandon the best, thank you for your support LOL
I can translate. When you attack with 56 vehicles and 16 are destroyed, this is when you go ham and continue with a full attack and without stopping for wounded friendlies. This is called "breaking through" and it's not possible when the troops don't want to fight.
Totally agree and is incredibly difficult against modern artillery. You can understand why the Russian soldiers retreated the casualties would have been horrific.
Appreciate your Insight Chuck you and Ben Hodges are very knowledgeable about the ways of War and basically in agreeance with everything Russia just threw a lot of crap at their neighbor thinking out we'll just overwhelm them and take what they have hasn't worked out well for them so far Western countries out of whatever fears they have have enabled this to extend for so long give ukrainians what they need and untie their hands they've caused a lot of needless death
There is a great quote floating around that I absolutely love, pertaining to Russia: "Never interrupt your enemy while they are making a mistake". Don't know who initially said that, but it fits perfectly. I'm sure Ukraine will respect Russia's right to F-Up on a regular basis. .
I am afraid the russian leadership is not interested to see initial forces members that miraculously survived go home. There is a risk they will tell the people "how it was out there".
from what I read, the reason why the Russians are fielding large number of T-55s and 62s is that these tanks are a bit less costly and easier to refurbish than the newer T-64s, 72s 80s and 90s from the storage depots. since these tanks are less complicated centering on the auto loader which is complicated to repair and refurbish. and Ive also heard a lot of ammo for the T-55s and 62s are defective due to poor storage and age of the ammo, since the Russians dont produce them anymore so they are force to source them out to North korea...LOL. I find this one very amusing.
I suspect there's no functioning night vision in those T-55 or T-62. That takes routine maintenance that Russia hasn't demonstrated. Thus, they only attack in the daytime.
@@chrishooge3442 they say a good number have been updated to 21st century standards but I suspect many have just been put on working order, in short no IR or they use the old one with the flashlight. 70s vintage.
@@magikclown that is why the Russians should abandon more modern T-90 tanks so the Ukrainians can tow them with tractors, like it was 2022 all over again. The Russians are the biggest tank donors to the Ukrainains like the time they abandoned 400 tanks and APCs at Izyum Late 2022 hahhahah
In 2024, Russia took a little trip, they took a little bike, tanks and fighting vehicles. Ukraine fired their guns and the Russians kept a-comin' There wasn't as many as there was a while ago Ukraine fired once more and they began to runnin'
Its always good to hear from a veteran who 'has been there' rather than the talking heads who the closest they came to a war was the distance between their couches and their televisions and their weapon a TV remote.
An interesting strategy would be to look which specific individuals are deployed in Russia, figure out contact info, emails, phone numbers of them and family members and send them a detailed and easy to understand list on how to reduce the odds of debt, how to flee safely, how to destroy your own assault vehicles, how to defect, how to hinder the efforts of the russian army as to (again) reduce the odds of deployment. Add videos of defected/imprisoned russian soldiers who explain these approaches to their own comrades calmly, respectfully and patiently on video.

History facts. Spain was ruled by blacks for 750 years. Blacks defeated Italy. Turks were from Central Asia, Turkey ruled Greece for 400 years. In the battle of Singapore, Japan lost 1000 soldiers and took 100,000 POWs.
Just one small note. Precisely because tanks fire straight, rather than using a vertical trajectory, they are in some sense more dangerous on the front line than artillery. A tank shot is immediate, with no chance for infantry to hide or even drop to the ground and it often causes highly damaging shrapnel, from trees for instance, to severly injure and even kill soldiers. Also, because tanks in "artillery mode" use very-very fast shoot-and-scoot, they are much harder to hit with anti-tank weapons.

I am most likely one of the strongest ukraine supporter from all my relatives and friends but even i am getting to a point, where i cannot see Ukraine winning. At least not if the west keeps giving you enough weapons so you don't loose immediately, but not enough to win. And sadly it is also because of all the Ukrainesupporters who only speak out online. Where are the rallys in front of government buildings? Where are the masses who demand more aid for ukraine? Where are the protests? I would love to do it myself but unfortunately i am living in a neutral country which will never rethink this status...
