If the Russians used their troops correctly, upon contact with the enemy have ground troops engage opposing troops with javelin immediately then lay covering fire with tanks/heavy mechanized vehicles they would have much greater success.

Tanks used to be a soldiers best friend. The Javelin has changed all that, with the "Fire & Forget" coupled with a 90% kill ratio. 25 times cheaper than a Russian tank & way more mobile. Tanks are supposed to save soldiers.... Now it needs soldiers to expose themselves to protect it.

Looks like “the best way to kill a tank is with another tank” might be going away. One kf these things is $80,000, an M1 needs a crew of four, costs millions, needs extensive maintenance, lots of fuel. If you're shooting from three clicks away and concealed, can’t see much defense against it.

Reasons for continued upgrades and replacement technologies: 1) extended range 2) weight reduction 3) improved propulsion systems 4) improved tracking systems There are probably even more reasons that I haven't thought of. I would add, on the first position (beside what you sir said, the deceptive launch location) in order to hide the launcher. In this regards I would do it in two pieces, one stays fixed in the ground, the rochet itself, and the soldier who shoot the target stays totaly separated, relatively far away from the rocket itself. It this configuration you can also deploy multiple rockets and launch them with the same launcher.

@@ruzziasht349 I watched those vids, and I have to say the Brits got my respect. NLAW works pretty good, and at half the cost of a Jav. Now I must say the Brits had a HUGE overstock of those weapons, and they sent thousands of them to Ukraine. It is very likely that out of every 3 tanks destroyed- one was done in by NLAW. NLAW however has a 2 mile range, and Javelin has an expected 7 mile range. I am a fan of both, but Javelin is a superior weapon, but superior matters not if you can't field it immediatly, and I respect the Brits for the incredible speed they got those weapons to the fighters. The switchblades 300 and 600 along with javelins can stop tanks in their tracks. You can launch a swarm of switch blades and they can find targets at range and obliterate a whole lot of tanks without warning and without revealing a position. They work well on the supply trucks too and wiping out an army’s supply stops the army. 30 guys brought that 40 kilometer line to a halt. And they had to leave. I would get people on atvs again and send them with both systems and stop the build up by hitting behind their lines and take out the logistics. Tanks do not run on air and soldiers need food. Remove those and it has a big impact. Russian doctrine has logistics driving strategy and that is a big weak point. Once they are exposed they can be cut off. Get the depots and the trucks and their army stops and run out of supplies and they have to retreat.
@refuge42
@refuge42 2 года назад
The Russian model of logistics driving strategy is a well recognized failing point. The idea of vehicles shooting these rockets sounds well for increased firepower but is exposed to itself becoming a very identifiable Target. Also there's a lot to be said when an infantry soldiers running around with $100,000 on his shoulder. The hidden message is we trust this soldier to respect the value of this rocket and I believe most soldiers would work very hard to find a way to improve the strike ability of the rocket they launch. Sort of like hittinga home run when you're up to bat..

I think a vehicle-mounted version of Javelin should have the added capability to identify, lock onto and engage multiple enemy targets simultaneously. If it's unnerving to the enemy to see one of their main battle tanks taken out without warning, imagine if 6 of their tanks were suddenly taken out without warning. They'd be surrendering immediately, and that's the best possible outcome of an engagement: the quickest victory outcome with the least casualties possible, both to our side, and the enemy. Why should we even consider minimizing enemy casualties as part of the equation? Because the enemies we're (the West) likely to be engaging have been fed a steady diet of bull$hit about the West, and the best possible weapon is one that produces huge numbers of enemy combatants who want to fight WITH us against their former masters, with the aim of overthrowing them. This is going to become the most important force multiplier in conflicts from now on.

In my opinion any direct conflict involving U.S. and R.F. (Russian Federation) military personnel will have very similar, but more profound and far-reaching, effects as the defeat of front-line Russian military technologies in the first Gulf War - which directly resulted in the demise of the Soviet Union. Any confrontation between Russian and U.S. military units, whether occuring in the air, on the sea, or on the ground will quickly illustrate a vast tactical and strategic difference in combat effectiveness between the two organizations. One is made up of Free Men, mostly college educated, who have chosen this particular science to dedicate their lives to, has a rich tradition of rewarding individual initiative in defense of Freedom around the world and deploys the latest high-technology components of the arsenal of Freedom. The other - made up of unwilling conscripts who are conditioned to follow orders exactly and are afraid to deviate from strictly orchestrated, highly detailed, written orders issued miles from the front lines - a dogmatic, outdated, heirarchical military stucture, under which uninformed conscripts, filled with propagandist lies, are more terrified of their own commanders than of enemy forces, using technologies from the 1980's. One does not need to be an historian or "rocket scientist" to extropalate the probable outcome of this kind of clash. Develop a new system? Hell yes. Enemies of Freedom don't even comprehend the unknown demons that await them on the battlefield once U.S. forces become involved.

Yes, a successor to the Javelin should be developed. If it meets needs now, it will not meet needs in the future. Prepare for future conflicts, not for the conflicts of today.

Yes, continued weapons development is always needed. The future looks more like the switchblade loitering drones. These drones fly around and hoover above for up to 45 minutes before coming down and cost significantly less. Future battlefields could easily use drones like this that hoover for days to weeks. Future battlefields could have drones like this used for people. Landmines, machine guns, self driving vehicles, there are lots of ways for equipment to get smart.

@@arklight1670 Military weapons development is always extremely expensive. I seem to recall hearing that the current anti-tank missiles costs like $450 million or more to develop. I also think that 9 out of 10 military weapons that get developed are never fully used or rarely turn into blockbusters. However, a steady stream of innovation is a useful thing to have and it is expensive to say the least.

The NLAW is cheaper and lighter with apparently similar effectiveness. Generally combat drones are a nice platform for Javelins, and a datalink to reconnaissance drones would allow to transfer the location and image of a target behind an obstacle to a Javelin launcher.

Weapons development can never stop, or you will be obsoleted quickly. Keep developing new systems and improving the old as long as they are still viable. We will never "arrive." We have to keep developing and comparing to potential enemy's weapons in the rest of the world. Strive to leave the enemy in the dust, but use only what is necessary.

It is very hard to hit a missile coming straight at you.... All you can do is put shrapnel in its way before it gets to you and hits that instead of you. It is even harder to do when something is coming down at you. Its hard to fire straight up with accuracy at one small point.

I will tell you a strategy, the Javelin carrier should be accompanied by a driver in a two seater custom ATV, because ATV can run quick, small and hard target for tanks and is more fuel efficient can run cover more distance. or at least produce a war specific ATV with larger tanks and compartment for javelin ammo, or maybe it can be an electric ATV with a standbye mobile charger within the battlezone. One shot, change postion, shot, change postition just like a sniper. And at least 50 javelin squad should be deployed in a tank route.. accompanied by at least dozen of snipers a few clicks behind to attack possible ground men that will retaliate. Generals could actually learn from me because I am a war champ.
