If Germany cuts off the natural gas to everyone’s homes, then industry will have all the gas that they need. If people get cold, they can wear long johns and a jacket. When they sleep they can use more blankets. People live outside in the snow for fun. It’s called “camping”. They don’t freeze to death when they wear proper clothes and use a proper sleeping bag. Also, the wimps who can’t handle a cold winter can easily buy a nice modern efficient clean burning wood stove that can burn firewood and coal. Germany has plenty of coal. But obviously you’re too stew pid to use your brain to come up with solutions. You’d rather whine, complain, and cry like a baby.

Well, gas pipelines from Russia to China aren't that difficult to build. In fact there's a few already and more are on the way. On the other hand, a pipeline underneath the Atlantic is impossible, so there's no light at the end of the tunnel as far as the EU is concerned. Geography trumps everything else.

1. ruSSia drastically cut gas supplies last fall - well before Feb24th and sanction. It's an indisputable historic fact. This was their plan. 2. Yes it's common sense to expect agreements to be honored. EU didn't attack anyone so logically they should not be sanctioned

What you miss though is that simultaneously, the Euro has dropped to on par with the American dollar. even with products costing 50% more from original price they are 100% cheaper for international buyers. Europe can survive this gas crisis and is still connected to the rest of the world. Putler is finding it to be a lot harder.

I have no hot running water for 2nd year and room temperature in winter around 19 degrees C, no problem with that I didn't even get cold. Actually my hot running water has room temperature as boiler is let powerless and cold water going in has in winter about 9 degrees C.

Just use rags and a bar of soap. You shouldn't shower each day anyway.

The Russian Central Bank slashed interest rates to 8% from 9.5% in July, 100bps more than expected. Stats show that since late May, weekly inflation in Russia went to 0%, and hovers between 0-0.3%, and has dipped into deflation. Also, ideal weather is leading to RECORD crops. The ruble is still at a five year high. Its not crumbling. The SCO and BRICS just agreed to trade in national currencies and finished setting up mechanisms for it. The EU is the one auto-sanctioning itself and facing dire situations. The gas prices are up 400%. But the worst is the upcoming food crisis. This summer's harvest was 215% more expensive to produce because of fertilizer, seed and diesel increases in cost, but 30% has been lost due to the droughts.

The sanctions on Russia already totally destroyed their car manufacturing and flight industry. They are just able to buy food and have to save on anything else.The growth of three decades was destroyed already and that was just the beginning. Russians are starting to plunder chips from washing machines for their war machinery. Sanctions work slow but bone crushing.

Food is normal as is everything else. I don't think that you realize much. Little has changed in Russia except the first 2 months of the war was harder, then it all normalized. Weekly inflation is down near zero since late May. And weather was ideal, so crops are expected to break all records. I cannot speak for the chips situation.

The US & UK intel services assured the EU that sanctions would work quickly. They massively underestimated the strength of the Russian economy. Whoops!

Germany isn't exactly a middle income country. The things being manufactured there aren't really competing 1:1 with the countries that won't be impacted.

They're competing largely with other European countries or with Japan and South Korea a who have also placed sanctions on Russia and are experiencing increasing energy prices due to the increase in demand for oil and gas from Europe. They aren't affected at the same rate, but they also aren't getting cheap Russian gas.

There is some Western things that need replacements like airbags for car that they can get from Asia and parts for Airbus and Boeing aircraft. So, food could triple in price by the Fall. And, if industry has no energy, mass layoffs. Believe me, its not looking fun.

America against Nord Stream 2 when there was no conflict in Ukraine

Germany has for years worked as communist agent for Russia and China all so that their automakers can sell more cars in china. CPEC, Nord pipeline is prime example of surrendering country critical infra to autocratic countries.

Most coal plants in Germany were converted to gas and retrofits back to coal take time. It would be using mothballed plants if they still exist (most were demolished). Also, most coal used in Germany (45.3%) came from Russia and it is banned as of August 1st. Nuclear is still being phased out at end of 2022 since most uranium came from Russia and Khazastan, and that will also be banned. There is NO way out. Reduced gas usage in summer is normal (that is why NS1 is shut down every year in July for maintenance) because there is no cold, no schools, many people are on vacations and longer days means less electricity usage. However, the time is usually used for storing for increased gas consumption in winter, and Germany is way behind. Less than 40% of the storage has been done. Storage is usually near 92% by end of August and this won't happen. Finland is a completely different situation than Germany.

@@tonyjay508 Germany uses 8.6 billion cubic meters of gas a day and those cargo ships hold about 266,000 cubic meters a piece so that takes 32,330.8 LNG tankers. It needs to come from a pipeline, like from Denmark.

No - they offered Nordstream 2 as an alternative to the technical problems on Nordstream the first week of June. Germany is doing this to itself. Why, is not clear. Nordstream had 3 of 5 compressors down due to turbine issues. Ukraine cut 1 of the 2 pipelines for no reason, and Poland cut Yamal-Europe to reverse-flow it and buy gas from Germany, so that they could get a better price and Uniper could make a profit since they get Russian gas at a discount. The Russians did their job. The EU are self-mutilating and lying.

You are right, and I believe they won't do it for 2 reasons, maybe more: 1st - it's there style. Destabilise. They like to play cat with a mouse, attacking, then giving hope they will not attack... And then when you had time to breath a bit and recover a bit, attack again and repeat. 2nd- if they do, they have no one else to sell their gas and they risk that we find alternatives and then we won't buy it again. I think nobody is expecting Europe to go and begg Russia for gas and like... Say "please let me have it and I promise I will support you ever!" That want happen. Most countries in Europe have reduced Russia gas imports by 2/3 already and are filling gas reserves right now. Next year we will use even less gas from Russia. You keep mistaking Europe with Germany.

FIRST, Russia is NOT cutting gas. There are now 3 compressors of 5 that are offline on NS1 due to Siemens turbines issues - either absent for repairs and not returned due to sanctions, or others that were found damaged during the maintenance in July. The Russians can do nothing. Apparently Siemens found another turbine with issues so it may be down to 1 compressor in August. The reason for Nordstream 2 was to prevent this scenario but Scholz doesn't want to open it. The Russians did nothing. Yamal-Europe was shut down by Poland, who reversed the flow to get Russian gas from Germany at a cheaper price and Ukraine shut down one of its two pipelines in May for unclear reasons, mostly political. The EU did this to itself - stop blaming the Russians for its own stupidity. The EU is in MAJOR trouble. Gas is one thing, but Germany is looking at ZERO energy. Coal plants were retrofitted to gas and reconversion would take time. Most coal (45%) came from Russia which is banned as of August 1st and so was uranium. So, the 3 plants will likely close at the end of 2022. PLUS, what people haven't yet been told, is that this summer's harvest was 215% more expensive to produce than 2021 because of fertilizer/seed/diesel price increases and droughts have caused so far a 30% crop loss. This should come into effect near October/November with massive price increases for food. If Germany tanks, the whole EU will go down the toilet. France is in MAJOR trouble. 29 or its 56 reactors are down due to lining issues. Macron is scrambling for LNG and a floating LGN plant. He told industry in the south of France to convert boilers to oil instead of gas. Uniper, Germany's main gas company, failed and had to be bailed out. EDF (Énergie de France), is close to bankruptcy with billions in debt. The EU is looking at a major depression, not just a recession.

EU countries other than Germany made new contracts with other gas providers for the next years. Imports of Russia gas will go down from 30 to 10% just this winter, Germany could only reduce by half.

@@peabase The Russians won't go hungry unless their society completely collapses, they have plenty of agricultural resources... but their agriculture efficiency & profitability will likely be degraded, the quality/variety of grocery store options might be diminished. The MAJOR problem is that Germany imported its uranium from Russia and Khazakstan. Most were decommissioned and cannot be brought back online. The last 3 could be extended if new uranium sources are found.

Liquefied gas is 3-5 times the price and infrastructure capacity is less than 10% of what is needed. Nobody will invest in expanding it as nobody knows if Russia will again traditionally dump the prices so much that nobody will be able to resist it, in order to be competitive world wide. But having absolute global monopoly on fertilizer is ultimate asset for geopolitical negotiations. Gasprom actually owns a huge percentage of industry world wide, as they can sell gas to themselves at best prices. Nobody can compete them, as nobody will be able to compete in food production without them. We also know that farmers are pretty strong interest group in western societies. Look whats happening in Netherlander over fertilizer nitrogen taxation.

No as a Russian living in France for more than 10 years, I can tell you we have a problem with summer heat, and subsequent decrease in cooling capacity for the stations ( water for cooling of reactors comes from rivers, mostly Rhône), so we can't use our nuclear power plants for more than 60% of nominal capacity, not even dreaming about energy export.

Ironically Ukraine is about to boost electricity exports to EU by at least x2.5 (it's up there with France in terms of nuke power output). But natural gas (as a chemical) is often required in manufacturing. Anyway, market will rebalance and it'll work out in the end.

Not all EU countries are dependant on russian gas, mostly germany and few other countries in continental europe. France, UK, Spain, the Nordics arent affected as much.
