Wars have varying causes. The Iraq war, as Bernie rightly suspected, was an aggressive, hasty action. At that time, there wasn't even support from most of the traditional allies of the US. On the other hand, in Ukraine the people are defending themselves from Putin's actions. He's even tearing up the Donbas, which region he claimed was being mistreated. If he cared so much about Russian lives, he wouldn't be destroying Russian speaking people's towns, killing them, or sending the mother country's young men into war. Completely different conflicts, although both had/have the effect of harming a generation of young people and civilians caught in the middle.

In 2020 about 95 million Americans didn't vote. Since we've known for many decades now that conservatives almost always vote, we know that the vast majority of those non-voters lean to the left. We need to change that, and get these people to start voting.

I was a lifelong republican and went back where I came from after they handed it to Hillary, but for 4 months, I was a democrat so I could caucus for him. While volunteering for him, I realized a better strategy is to get voters voting for him, not non-voters voting. It worked well in my red rural district. Low interest voters tend to be low information voters that go by name recognition. They are more likely to vote for Trump than anybody good.

Ukraine had a government structure and culture for over 200 years before Russia had a government structure and culture. They have been their own country for much longer than Russia.

As a citizen in a nation far away from the fighting, I can only take limited action. I have sent about 15 cards and will probably send more. Even if it doesn't do anything, at least I am continually reminding the Russian Ambassador that we don't admire the attacks on Ukraine or see them as "glorious" or "brave". In fact we see them as tragedies for all involved - for both the Ukrainian soldiers but also for the Russian soldiers who get used to prop up Putin's career.

I'm Irish. Europe stands firmly behind Ukraine. Today's commitment by the European Union to supply weapons is unprecedented. Admittedly getting the weapons to the Ukrainian forces may not be straight-forward. The Ukrainian people are strong. They have had to be over the decades. They have earned the respect of all Europe. People on both sides do not deserve to suffer and die due to Putin's ambitions to restore Russia to something resembling the old Soviet Union. Mr. Sanders, you're the politician I respect the most in the US. And I always appreciate your honesty and solid stance against the inhumane and immoral capitalist system installed on the US. I also appreciate your humanitarian virtues where you reject any military act or even reaction in order to save and preserve as many human lives as possible. I know also that Putin is a bad autocrat with the usual goals and ambitions that come with the "job". However, one can't put it all on Putin when it comes to the Ukrainian conflict. The guy has been warning of such an action by his side for years now (since 2014). And the West and especially the Nato and the Americans haven't listened at all. Ukraine has turned itself into a hostile country against Russia. Has been armed and trained for 8 straight years by the Americans and Nato forces. Has been a common destination to all white supremacists around the world where they get welcomed and trained all under the governments eyes and support even. They make summer camps for teenagers to train on weapons and get brainwashed into such ideology. The nationalists which by majority consist of Neo-Nazi fighters and activists have been slaughtering civilians in the Donbass area for 8 straight years trying to make the Russian residents there flee and make those of pure ukrainian origins take over. Ukraine has always been ruled by currupt presidents backed by a bunch of currupt oligarches. Nothing different to the state Russia has been in. Instead of being one of the richest countries worldwide due to their rich resources it has become one of the poorest nations with few extremely wealthy oligarches. And this group of rulers has hosted and supported racist movements and even integrated them into the Ukrainian army as in the Azov Battalion. And their president even announced lately he has intentions to require nuclear weapons. Yes Putin is a war criminal. But he hasn't reacted any differently to the threat at his doorstep than any different superpower throughout the hository and especially nothing different to what the US has been reacting since 80 years of a rich history of launching wars into foreign territories.

I usually side with Bernie on many issues. On this issue, a correct posture can not be reached by judging the incursion of Russia into Ukraine's territory. The current issue is the NATO aggression surrounding Russia when the Soviet Union imploded in 1990. The US and Europe decided to continue to expand eastward by continuing a cold war policy of containment against Russia. Russia reacted by invading Georgia and annexing a strategic part of it to create a buffer zone. The US then staged a coup in Ukraine in 2014 to oust a Russia-friendly government and replace same with a US-friendly ally. This new government passed laws prohibiting the use of Russian in Ukraine prompted the cessation of The Donbas Republics. A civil war ensued which ended with THE MINSK AGREEMENTS. These agreements were not honored by Ukraine and attacks against The Donbas region were frequent. The Ukrainians killed 14,000 Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Recently, Ukraine amassed over 150,000 soldiers near the Donbas area. Russia intervened to pacify the attackers and create safe corridors for the Russian-speaking population to find safe harbors. NATO IS NOT AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER!! The US and NATO do not want to end this war. Contrary to the hypocrisy, The US benefits from higher-priced liquid gas. The US loves to arm all of Europe. It is a great business. The goal is the further dismemberment of Russia so that a more united front can be waged against China. Europeans will suffer. Russians will suffer. Above all Ukrainians will suffer more than the rest of the world. The solution is the establishment of a new security structure for Europe and the world. The solution is predicated on recognition by The US and Europe that we are not in a unipolar world. Western dominance of the world is over. Until this realization is accepted, Russia, China, India, and every other emerging nation will suffer from THE SCOURGE OF THE LAST 500 YEARS. BUT I THINK THAT THE NEW WORLD ORDER IS ARRIVING SOON. As someone who volunteered for Bernie, and even spoke before Bernie in one of his rallies, Bernie's foreign policy has been absolute garbage recently. From Venezuela, Nicaragua, now Ukraine. I can only guess he has some staffers that are probably working for the CIA, giving him the worse information.
I stand for the beautiful Ukrainian people, and thank Senator Sanders for standing for their sovereignty, and liberty. I stand with those Russians putting their lives in the line by protesting this unjust war.

when using 'beautiful' sweepingly, that's judgmental too, and like with negative stereotyping, relies on a very limited set of examples, usually themselves limited, not necessarily even from real life (e.g, tv).

Shut them out of the banking system, period. No credit card transactions in Russia. No wire transfers. Nothing. No business period, and welcome anyone who wants to leave as a refugee. Give them asylum in the West.
I want it targeted towards the oligarchy, not working people. The last thing we need is to have average Russians hating us. 60% of Russians are against the invasion. That can easily change if they feel like the West is attacking them and it will allow Putin to dig in. All the corrupt bastards helping Russian upper class get rich in the West are who need to be targeted. That money is being funneled in our banks. Disrupt that flow in Russia and in the West, watch how quickly this starts to end. We're already seeing the hypocrisy in the West. UK's prime minister is not letting Ukraine refugees in. Germany is blocking sanctioning SWIFT.

I am very glad you made this speech it changes my view of you a lot . The US should influence NATO to move into Western Ukraine and set up a 200 kilometer safety zone from the Polish border so refugees can obtain safety much quicker . If you had spoken like this during the election you would have been elected .

Bernie, I am very proud of the fact that I voted for you during the primary. To me, you are the very honorable MR. Sanders. I wish we had more politicians like you, who really care about the American people, and who are not just trying to enrich themselves. I know we have some progressives who actually care, but I wish there were more.
Bernie has the sensibility and empathy to mention the courageous people in Russia who are organizing anti-war protests in 40 different cities and cites leaders like Alexei Navalny. Such a class act! More people need to hear what Bernie has to say - Let's make this go viral!
thanks bernie for being the voice of Justice we should always stand with the people in all parts of the world we stand with the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia. I am disturbed by the fact that the government of Ukraine is silencing the opposition who also call for a stop to the murder of innocent people let's dig deep and try to investigate the real roots to the conflict
What most politicians in power dont seem to understand is that the one who has the heart and the attention of the people also has the power. Bernie, you may have been cheated out of the presidency, but when YOU speak, millions of us listen with respect and love. I dont think that is true of most any other elected official. I support Ukraine and Russians and Americans who oppose Putin and tRump! Down with dictators and POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!! Thank you Bernie for helping us to hold on to hope in our political system.
