In 2001-2012, 8-10% and in 2019, 6%, nearly 25 years of steady growth over 6% ain't slow anyway. Considering China's population, it's impossible to become a middle income economy only rely on natural resources. An economy that depends on the export of raw materials is not comparable to an economy that depends on industry. Although the per capita GDPs of Brazil, Russia and China are close, Brazil and Russia are very vulnerable to the influence of external environment and unstable, and the quality of economic development is much worse, as the life expectancy of Brazil and Russia can prove.

Size and diversity matters. The GDP of Russia fluctuate wildly with the price of oil (hence the massive surge in the 2000s, and the precipitous fall after 2014). China, on the other hand, is a very diversified manufacturing economy. If one sector is going through a recession, another sector is booming. China can trade freely because its surrounded by sea and populous neighbors since 1000AD or even before. 2-3 x richer than the British empire. even before Russia difficult to trade land lock and too many enemies. They survive on their own poor in money but rich in resources. Belarus land lock and shunned by EU Ukraine has resources , fertile lands and the black sea. would lead to inconclusive results if compared.

Why surprising? Russian technology and industry isn't as strong as western one, specially outside military field. China on the other hand is slowly rising up the way Japan and Asian tigers did it before. One can plot the rise of Japan, So Kor etc and predict it takes around 20-30 years to go from middle to upper income, where China is right now. And Chinese growth is mainly based on industry and manufacturing with value added being the priority. So China grows precisely becoming more advanced, not pulling oil outta the ground; the Soviet and now former Soviet state reality. Also, China was deeply backwards and fully agrarian up until the 80s, while the Soviet union saw most of its economic and tech advances during mid 20th century during Stalin and kruschev era. So Nothing surprising. The only way this would change is if they started growing the same way China did, with a plethora of high tech industries. But that unlikely

Russia, Ukraine and Belarus 's GDP depend on oil price..this is why their GDP looks like the roller coaster..China's GDP depend on export, if other countries don't want the high CPI, they have to import the chinese productes. oil and gas are same, if EU want the cheap gas, they have to purchase them from Russia. Ukraine has gas, but it is not enough, Russia give Ukiaine lots money for the transit expenses to EU.. Russia can get stable money from EU every year too. so who want to start this war in NATO? only one guy who sell the expensive gas

To add: the Chinese don't hate Ukrainians, Ukraine has provided China with a lot of military technical assistance over the years, and even China's first aircraft carrier came from Ukraine. Therefore, most Chinese have a positive attitude towards Ukrainians. But we also understand Russia's feelings very well. NATO should not continue to expand eastward, and should leave a safe space for Russia. The most pitiful are the innocent suffering people in the war, and the most hateful are the politicians who play politics for their own gain.

In order to fulfill Putin's task of becoming one of the five leading economies in the world, Russia's GDP must grow annually at a rate higher than the global average. But it has decreased by 3% in 2020. In 1990, the Russian Federation produced 9% of the world's product, now it is less than 2%. In the USA, economic growth in 10 years is 16%, in the European Union - 31%, in communist China - 101%. But Russia haven't grown even by 10% in a decade! We are convinced that the cause of today's problems is a pandemic. But China's GDP, despite the pandemic, showed an 8,1% growth in 2021 (highest for past 10 years). Under the leadership of the Communist Party, a course is being conducted there, focused not on the interests of the greedy oligarchy (like in modern Russia), but on the genuine development of the national economy and the social sphere.
