Both nations are here because of influence. Russia have close tides on Syrian government since 1950s and US have some tides on Asad's opposition. From start both sides fight side by side against Islamic State but since they are no threat things change. It's not about resources things are same like in Iraq it is more about political influence and all "great powers" do same shit since end of WW2. Wars in Korea, Vietnam later Sino-Vienamese conflict, in some ways Arab-Isreali conflicts and now conflicts in Africa. USA, Russia and China are biggest players in some smaller local games about influence there is Britain, France, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey and Isreal but you will more see major players.

Funny thing if you put soldiers from any two countries together and add some translators, also add in the order to not kill or disrespect each other. You will, in a matter of hours have a bunch of football games, videogame talk, people adding each other on steam and social media, bobding over war and soldiering stories and overall , a good time. Cuz soldiers are just people.

Nah, none of those US boys will ever have to face one of those Russian boys in a fire fight. That's not how America rolls. By the time American boots would be anywhere near Russian boots, the US Air Force would have deleted anything worth fighting. US ground forces will be there to remind who's left that having survived what came from above, now is not the time to try and put up a fight. They'll be there to accept surrendering Russian soldiers.

So they plunder the middle East where they get dirt cheap labor also don't need to worry about any land contamination bcz it's some other country. US companies are stealing and selling 90℅ of Syrian oil everyday. But, the oil wells were Syrian State owned and Russia is defending the Syrian state from US. Russian companies are NOT plundering Syria.

In the early 80's I was an air base ground defenseman (81mm mortar) in the USAF, stationed in Korea. I was alone on a stop over in Singapore. I entered a bar filled with Russian sailors from a Russian Cruiser on a Port Call. I'm not going to lie, it was a tense stare off for about 20 seconds. Thet got up and surrounded me, smiled and offered copious amounts of alcohol. What a night. No politics, no talk of military, and no probing for information, just men having drinks and laughs. I, of course, had to tell my commander of the encounter, but what a memory.
If you talk to any us soldier who's had interactions with russians they'll tell you how friendly they are. People are people and Russian and American culture aren't too far apart. We've actually done a few joint training exercises with them not long ago.
That's pretty cool. Russians are indeed Friendly people. And true friends too once you get in their trust. Telling you as a Russian, I always support my friends, regardless of where they are and how they are. I wish you all the good luck!
