Hello Sergey! Yes - SPAR and Eurospar is an Austrian private company. When I first discovered the big Eurospar in Moscow on Tversky Street, I was really surprised and excited. The 80 branches in Moscow alone made me very happy. An Austrian entrepreneur who is not involved in the sanctions! Respect and admiration for that!!! Since I found out, I have been shopping at Eurospar much more often. A company like that deserves support! The branches in St. Petersburg are also great and much bigger than my own in Vienna. Thank you for your reports and best wishes from Austria!

@@1000ciels SPAR from 1954 to today The year SPAR was born in Austria is 1954. At that time, the Tyrolean wholesaler Hans F. Reisch laid the foundation for the Austrian company, which is still 100 percent private today, by founding the SPAR Tirol/Pinzgau trade association in Kufstein. Around 100 independent merchants came on board, who from that point on joined forces and worked together in areas such as purchasing goods, organization, technology and marketing. The idea of the "voluntary retail chain" quickly spread throughout the country. Other wholesalers in other federal states followed the Tyrolean example. SPAR began its triumphal march in Austria. In 1959, SPAR was a household name throughout the country and represented from Vorarlberg to Burgenland. The 1960s were characterized by the professionalization of wholesale and retail trade. SPAR was already demonstrating its pioneering role at that time, being the first company to implement innovative marketing ideas and investing in modern logistics. SPAR was also a pioneer in self-service and attracted particular attention with the first "self-select stores", which gradually replaced the pure service stores. In 1970, one of the most important decisions in SPAR's history was made: under the leadership of Hans F. Reisch and Luis Drexel, the ten wholesale families joined forces and founded SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels-AG. This decision created the structural and strategic prerequisites for all further successful developments. By founding the AG, the owner families paved the way for group-owned branches and for the first INTERSPAR supermarkets. In the 1980s, these were systematically expanded into smaller shopping centers. This set the course for the development of large-scale shopping centers. At the beginning of the 1990s, SPAR took another important step: the Austrian market was becoming saturated and SPAR recognized the opportunities and possibilities in neighboring countries. In 1990, SPAR ventured to cross national borders. With the specially founded company ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) based in Widnau/Switzerland, SPAR expanded to northeast Italy, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia and gradually built up its own national organizations in these countries. Since then, ASPIAG has managed SPAR's activities in neighboring countries. While SPAR expanded abroad, this period in Austria was characterized by takeovers. Company takeovers of Renner, Primakauf, Huma, Konsum, Top-Discount and Familia as well as Pampam. SPAR's expansion engine was also running at full speed in the 2000s. In 2000, SPAR took over Meinl in Eastern Austria and two years later Maximarkt, a subsidiary of INTERSPAR, and clearly positioned itself as a growth leader in Austria. In 2008, the Plus discount chain was taken over in Hungary, and one year later SPAR bought Ipercoop in Croatia. In 2007, SPAR entered the shopping center business with the founding of SES Spar European Shopping Centers: SPAR thus bundled its shopping center and real estate activities in a separate company. In order to further advance the vision of an Austrian retail company becoming a Central European retail group, SPAR adapted its structure in 2011 and founded SPAR Holding AG. SPAR-AG including INTERSPAR and Hervis, ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) and SES Spar European Shopping Centers are all under the umbrella of SPAR Holding AG.
