@SanctionedIvan the simple fact is obvious about UAZ cars and Russian cars in general is they probably haven't changed much in terms of quality since the days of the former Soviet Union. The Russian car companies are in for a shock now thanks to Putin's failed invasion of Ukraine the Russian Federation to get around western sanctions has had to turn to China meaning Russia will now be under China's thumb with Chinese now starting to make cars in Russia the Russian car brands like Lada UAZ etc will come under a lot of competition from the Chinese brands ,yes the Chinese car brands usually aim for the cheaper end of the market but they will be better put together than any of the Russian brands especially as the Russian car brands are by the look of things still using quality control from the days of the former Soviet Union. It's obvious that the average Russian earning around three hundred dollars a month cannot afford a new UAZ bukanka van at a cost of fifteen thousand dollars brand new so those Russian's who can afford a new will likely end up buying a Chinese car for around the same money with the difference being that the Chinese cars will be properly put together than the Russian branded cars .I'm not saying the Chinese car brands are perfect far from it but they are certainly better than a Russian car brand that is still stuck in the days of Gorbachev and the former Soviet Union. The future of Russian car industry likely ending up like the Moscovitch brand that recently re emerged in Russia a copy of a Chinese brand ,so Lada and UAZ will probably go the same way making copies of Chinese cars with a large chunk of those companies ending up owned by the Chinese car companies.You ruskies can look at it this way at least a Chinese car will start first go and make it from A to B.

Actually I find the Buhanka and Hunter very attractive :-) and would love to have those in Sweden. There's no rugged, simple cars like that on the european market but some people do need and/or appreciate just that. The Niva also have a fan-base in west europe. The main thing standing in the way is the crappy relations right now, destroying any possibility to aftermarket service, but with a few little tweaks in functional design and building quality those cars would have at least a chance to become popular in the west, or so I think. UAZ built in cooperation with Isuzu, I wouldn't think twice, it would be my no 1 choice. A friend had a Niva from 1984, only three years old car at the time he bought it. I became very impressed with it over the years, it was a very good car.

What a lot of reviewers don’t say is that bukhanka (буханка), although so called due to its resemblance of the bread loaf, is really referencing the drinking culture. It’s from the word “bukhat’ “ (бухать), which means to get drunk. Because the bread in shape of a loaf was cheaper, that was usually the “go to” bread for drunks for “zakuska” (закуска). And because of this connection with drinkers the loaf of bread became known as “bukhanka”, bread of drinkers (roughly translated). So, drunk culture’s presence is strong in this car.

@@Kannot2023 There are areas of Australia that get pretty cold , but not Siberia cold. However heat wasn't the issue, the cars were just so poorly built. The Australian importer spent $2000 per car getting them to a state that was acceptable to Australian car buyers and even after that, they were still cr@p. QUOTE: "Sixty changes were required to make the Samara comply with Australian Design Rules before quality issues were even considered. The Samara was not bad looking, but even at 20 paces you could see the woeful nature of such things as body fit and colour matching, as well as the nastiness of the plastics used in the bumpers and grille. This writer composed a two-foolscap-page list of faults about the first example he drove. Everything that could squeak, did; many things that should have worked, didn't. And lots of things actually fell off."

I've owned all of these cars. The really great thing he is not telling you is spare parts are incredibly cheap. About 1/4 of the price of pattern parts from Toyota or BMW. I don't replace my brake pads alone, I replace the discs and callipers and the brake pads for slightly more than the price of replacing brake pads on a western made car. You can also replace springs, shock absorbers, struts and keep the car driving like new for a fraction of the cost or doing the same on a BMW, Merc or Toyota.

A few decades ago I saw a Lada here in Canada as a neighbour had one and was impressed by the modern Russian technology. It was a tiny shoebox of a car that looked like it was outdated by half a century - but as the owner enthusiastically cited: it would always start even in the coldest of days. So yeah, I suppose Canadian car manufacturers would love to get their hands on Russian technology, seeing how we often can't start our cars when the temp drops to below -35C. Subscribed to your great channel - not only due to your fantastic presentation where you show us how far ahead Russian technology is compared to the rest of the world but mainly due to your helpers' handiwork. Evelina and her friend do fantastic work. Must see more of them!

Here in the ex soviet countries we've had a lot of these, they are cheap for a reason. The build quality is truly terrible, gearboxes and engines fail all the time and it rusts past safe levels in like 4 years. So it's 15k for a car that might not start and rust like a tin can.

Hahaha...❤ ! The first vehicle reminded me of a 72 VW- Vanagon. It used to be called VW Combi in Latin America. It was built on a modified platform of the VW-Bug. A family member owned one when I was a kid. It had a 1500 4 cylinder boxer engine, air cooled, carbureted, and used a generator instead of an alternator. Two more vehicles were built on similar modified platforms: The VW Safari and the VW Brasilia. The battery was located under the rear seat bench. The floor pans used to rust to the point of dropping all the way down to scrape the road, and shoot sparks. And of course power by hand windows just like this one. When you're a kid everything is fun...🍭 !

@tanyawales5445

The 'Loaf' reminds me of a 1960 - 1970's VW Bus. Only the VW Bus was higher quality with a molded vinyl interior and had no sharp surfaces to get yourself cut on. Ours didn't have air conditioning and it was HOT inside when we took it on our trips from Los Angeles to Iowa. The VW Bus was easier to get into and we had a standard stick shift. The VW Bus dashboard had more dials and a radio. The only thing to start aging on the VS Bus was the paint job. It was painted red and white. The red paint dulled under LA sunshine. The VW Bus had larger lights and chrome accents on the exterior. The doors were heavier and didn't bounce when you tried to close them like the UAZ van.

Keep it coming. As an “old guy” I really understand the quality of simplifying car technology. My first cars, was Skoda, Borgward and an Opel Kadet. The emergency repair kit was common; a tin can(to fix exhaust pipes), a winch of steel wire(fixing anything under the car), and a Roll of twine(for windshield wipers and holding doors) oh! That was the days.
