Learn most used Russian case! After watching that video you will be able to say "There isn't ..." correctly, use numbers and words "много" и "мало" with nouns, about 20(!) various prepositions. Just imagine how your vocabulary will improve!
How to work with my video lessons? At first watch it and repeat all Russian sentences out loud and record yourself to check your pronunciation. After watching put down all sentences you can remember. Watch the video again in 5-6 hours and correct the mistakes in your sentences if you have any. Do the homework that I usually give at the end of each lesson. Watch the video again in 2 days and make your own examples with the patterns used.
If something is not 100% clear, don't hesitate to ask anything in the comments. Thank you for watching.
Private Skype tuition: If you want to speak great Russian, book some private lessons with me through FB / alfiya.mustafina.9

@Alfia
@Alfia 4 года назад
Happy to know you find it helpful! Thanks for your feedback, it's really important for me. As for your sentences: 3. Игоря (masculine with Ь) 7. пива Your answer about "Что у вас есть в холодильнике" is ok. Just the word "жир" means "fat". Did you mean that? Or butter or oil? Butter is "сливочное масло", oil is "растительное масло". If we put it in Genitive, it'll be "У меня нет масла в холодильнике". And in sentence 5 the correct translation will be "У меня нет кошки и собаки" (they are feminine with КА ending) Regarding fluency and accuracy. I fully understand what you mean. Somehow diving into a language, reading, listening, learning new words and trying to speak without drilling much grammar sounds more natural. It's the way kids comprehend their mothertongues. If you ask me, I think it SOMETIMES works better. Two moments here are essential to succeed. Firstly, listen to native speakers as much as possible and watching videos with subtitles, copy the intonation and pronunciation out loud. Do not learn separate words but phrases, collocations and set expressions. And secondly, try to create a grammar skeleton in your head intuitively, the main idea without excessive details. That's my view on your question, hope you understand what I mean :)

@DavidEmerling79

The few times I've had discussions with Russians and I've asked them if they have any children, it seems they prefer collective numerals in these type of discussions. They usually say "У меня есть двое дочерей" instead of "У меня есть две дочери." At least, that's what I think I'm hearing. I could be wrong. It surprises me when they use collective numerals.
@Alfia
@Alfia 2 года назад
Actually, both are used. У меня две дочери = У меня двое дочерей. У меня два сына = У меня двое сыновей. But it's really more common to say: У меня двое (трое, четверо) детей. Rather than "У меня два ребёнка" - it's a bit weird, though grammatically correct.

I have a hard time understanding the genitive case after numerals when an adjective is involved. For instance: "У нее есть два красных карандаша." (She has two red pencils.) I believe the above sentence is grammatically correct, BUT why would the adjective be in the genitive plural when the noun it modifies is in the genitive singular? Yet, "У нее есть две красные ручки." (She has two red pens.) Now, we have the adjective in the nominative plural whereas the noun it modifies is in the genitive singular. So much for the adjective agreeing with the noun it modifies, huh? "У нее есть пять красных ручек." Now, that makes sense! "У нее есть двадцать двe красныe ручки." It seems, grammatically speaking, Russians only care about the два and not the двадцать. :)

Why is 12 in the genitive plural? It ends with a 2 right?
@Alfia
@Alfia 3 года назад
Genitive plural is used till 20, because the word "двенадцать" (12) doesn"t have the word "два" at the end. For example: Двенадцать машин. Двадцать две машины. Hopefully you can see the difference.

12 ends with two. Why is it plural and not singular? Also I have no milk. Why do you not use есть verb to say у меня есть нет молока
@Alfia
@Alfia 2 года назад
Двенадцать (12) is one word, you use Genitive plural after that. You can only use Genitive singular after двадцать два, двадцать три, двадцать четыре.... (22, 23, 24). Or you can use this scheme: 1 - Nominative singular 2-4 - Genitive singular 5-20 - Genitive plural 21 - Nominative singular 22-24 - Genitive singular 25-30 - Genitive plural 31 - Nominative singular .... Hope that helped a bit. Secondly, if you use "есть" it means there is/ are. You can only use it in affirmative sentences. If the sentence is negative, you say "у меня нет + Genitive".
@foleydvm
@foleydvm Год назад
I don't understand you said numbers ending in 1 nominative so 21 nominative case, 22 switch to genitive , 25 switch to genitive plural got it but why 12 which ends with 2 should be in genitive singular...ends in 2
@Alfia
@Alfia Год назад
It works for the numbers, starting with 20. 1 - год 2, 3, 4 - года 5, 6, 7...20 - лет (from 5 to 20) 21 - год 22, 23, 24 - года 25-30 - лет 31 - год 32, 33, 34 - года 35-40 - лет ..........
