In essence, a large number of countries in the Middle East produce all or most of their bread from Russian raw materials such as grain, wheat, and yeast. Russia has been subjected to various forms of sanctions for over 20 years. The shock of sanctions that the EU and USA anticipated did not materialize. There was already a small but prepared business ready to take over when EU companies were forced to sell their assets in Russia.

Do you and your wife understand what an incredible grocery store you have close to you? That is so clean and so well thought out. I have never seen a fish section like that. I could spend well over an hour there and the meat dept.and have a skilled butcher dress your meat made me want to cry. We used to have a fantastic butcher shop that knew every cut of meat and it would be ready for the oven. Your fruit area is the same as ours are but it does look as though you might have a better. Selection. The bakery took my breath away. Thank you so much for showing us your store.

@@paulj2948 not like this. Our fish and meat sections are small. The bakery is small. Publix is our best but seriously I have never seen a grocery store like this. We have a super Walmart by us but they do not sell fresh fish, meat dept. all prepackaged. Bakery is their prepackaged bake goods.

@@francesbacon7825 Walmart I don't consider a grocery store. You don't have Wegmans, Stew Leonard's, whole foods and other big markets? We also have legitimate fish markets here where I go for 3 lb lobsters and best seafood. Remember he's in Moscow. An anomaly. Outside there there is no big Globus like that.

Ah, OK, you live isolated in northern Sweden. Yes I have been there, driving to and from Nordkap. It can be pretty scarse with shops there. I hope you some day will get a chance to visit anything south of Stockholm - there you will find the same all over.

@@andreanagy4801Oh, well, never mind the name. Surely in Malmö you can find similar selection. Every now and then when we pass by Gekås in Ullared, we arrive in a bobil and stay there for days. Great selection and cheap... except for booze, wine and beer. All Swedes shop at the border shops in Flensburg, Germany, on the way home to Sweden.

Thank you, Russell, for another enjoyable video! My husband and I shopped at a Russian store yesterday in a city not too far from our rural home here in Michigan, U.S. We bought many of the products you show in your stores there--cakes, candies, cookies, authentic black bread, kvas, sausages, shashlik seasoning packets, sunflower oil, etc... The products are from Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine. Would you be allowed to film for us how these products are made, especially the strange (to us) swirled Russian marshmallows? So yummy, but nothing like a marshmallow from here. I'll be attempting to make authentic Kulich (Easter cakes) this week 😊 Thank you again!

@@christineh4427 Yes, we do. Woolworth and Coles are the two biggest supermarkets. We also have Aldi and IGA, plus a number of small ones. If I want some specialized deli items, then I have to go to small grocery shops or farmers markets. In fact there are also a couple of small Russian grocery shops in Melbourne.

У нас на каждом углу супермаркеты . Я живу в станице возле Анапы, у нас тут на одну нашу станицу 7 продуктовых супермаркетов. Не таких больших конечно , как этот, но все равно. В станице проживает 15600 человек. И еще много маленьких частных магазинов у дома

В Америке правительство не даёт крупным ритейлерам заходить на рынок, лобби своих сетей и своих гмо производств, большие налоги. I think after all the conflict is over and the sanctions are gone, Russia would be one of the most interesting places for digital nomads to settle. Think about it, you have your US/European salary, live in a clean, safe and modern place like Moscow, but you pay 0,5$ for gas, 0,17$ for bread, and 25$ a month for electricity, garbage etc… it’s ridiculously cheap for what you get!

Без массовой миграции из центральной Азии и присоединение Крыма, у нас было бы население 130 мил. А было в начале 90х 148 мил. Теперь сам считай. Нужна нам миграция да или нет. The cool thing about this globus is that opposite the check out area is a lovely cafe where they do amazing sausage and pork sandwiches and even pies, pizza and cakes all produced in globus. They even have a little ice cream place and a coffee area. The one he showed with the high tables next to the bakery is very new and a nice addition. I feel really lucky to have this globus as my local shop!

As a German I know this market, but they're quite rare in the northwestern region. We have more Lidl, Aldi (both are also very present in the UK), Netto and Real / Rewe. Anyway, nice and informative video, as always 🎉

Eggs that are washed must be refrigerated because the protective coating is removed, otherwise they can be stored at room temp. In North America, all our eggs are washed.

It’s actually a legal requirement to remove salmonella from outside of eggs … so when folks handle eggs they don’t smear salmonella and cross contaminate. Basic 101 food safety.

There isn't a single supermarket in London which offers such choice and range of products. In most London supermarkets you wouldn't find a single jar of caviar. And having fresh fish swimming in a pool of water - this is unheard of in London.

Мы не едим на ходу. Если только шаурму или донат. Даже самые маленькие кафе обычно имеют столики, где можно присесть. Борщ подают в ресторанах и в некоторых кафе найдете. А голубцы точно надо поискать. У нас представлена кухня со всего мира: китайская, японская, кавказская, итальянская, французская. Из русского могу порекомендовать кафе Теремок, где делают вкусные блины или Вареничную, там представлены блюда которые принято готовить дома. Котлеты, супы, салаты, пельмени. Может и голубцы есть, не помню 😊

What an ENORMOUS supermarket!!!! I think supermarkets in big cities in France are much larger too ~ I suppose that’s normal in and around Moscow because of the high population density! Regarding eggs ~ if eggs are washed then they must be refrigerated because the ‘cuticle’ or ‘bloom’ is washed off making them more vulnerable to bacteria. Unwashed eggs (and they are not as you might imagine ‘dirty’) still have the protective cuticle so are protected. We don’t refrigerate eggs in France ~ they are perfectly clean but unwashed so protected from unwelcome bacteria. Also in France we separate supermarkets and pharmacies ~ though there’s always a pharmacy within the larger supermarkets. Even in our comparatively small supermarket we have doors protecting the chilled produce. We also have fine water spraying salad produce. Thanks Russell, again a really interesting video 🙏.

I am a little bit surprised. In Germany, Globus is a hardware store chain and not a supermarket. The “Globus logo” in the video is also exactly the same as the hardware stores in Germany. By the way, the prices are mostly the same as in Germany if you convert them into euros. However, the purchasing power of Russians is significantly lower due to the Russian average income. As a result, the prices for Russians are extremely high.
