Bozhe Tsarya Khrani (God Save the Tsar) was the national anthem of the Russian Empire between 1833 and the fall of the Empire in 1917. It was composed by violinist Alexei Lvov, with lyrics written by the court poet Vasily Zhukovsky.

this anthem is not very stirring but more emotional. The reason Putin adopted the USSR anthem is because he wanted an anthem that would cheer up his people

Monarchs always have the saddest stories. Like The last Chinese Emperor and former Emperor of Manchuria (I forgot his name sorry) wasn't killed thank god but the story between him and his last wife is heartwarming.

Before this, there was another anthem called Molitva Russkih (Prayer of the Russians) which had the same melody as God Save the King. It also started with the words: "God save the Tsar," confusing the two for me before I found out that they were actually different songs.
